I have bought bags from a pet store and online and they have been hard. Used to be crushable. Date is fine. Anyone else have this problem? I am going to try soaking in water or return it. Very disappointed. I still have nw naturals to give her. She cannot eat a whole piece without throwing up

I don't use S&C freeze dried morsels anymore because Carleton stopped eating them. But when I did I always crumbled them and mixed with warm water. I noticed some bags would be softer than others but once I mixed them with water they would have the same consistency. If you are not satisfied I would suggest calling their customer service since they should have a toll free number.

Well, I have bought them and sometimes they are already completely crushed, and other times they are hard as a rock until I soak with warm water. I think the ones that contain some fish are the ones that crumble in the bags more readily, which is a bummer for my guy as he prefers chunks. I would try soaking them and then just press down with a fork to smash them if that's the consistency you're looking for (if you don't want to return them. Either that, or press all the air out of the bag and go over it with a rolling pin or cast iron skillet to break them up. Oh, BTW, I did call them about why the consistence is so different from bag to bag and wasn't satisfied with their response. BUT, my guy doesn't really like any other brand that I've tried, so I just have to sign and go on.

I totally forgot about my small grinder! Though I am going to try using a rolling pin first. I like being able to add 1 morsal per meal. If given too much she will throw up

Maybe you’d like a mortar and pestle or an herb grinder if you want to grind them a piece at a time.

I just use a can of soup or beans to smash freeze dried raw up.

I was thinking you could smash the entire bag at once so you don't have to worry about doing one "cube" at a time. The crumbs should still stay fresh as long as they are in the original sealed bag. Then you could simply spoon out a teeny bit each time you need it.

That gives me the idea to smash one and see how much it makes. Maybe just a 1/2 t

I put the amount I want to feed in a bowl, chop it up with this, then add water and mash it together with a fork. I can easily cut it into tiny pieces with this. Have though about trying a coffee grinder instead but that might be more of a pain to clean.

This is the morter and pestile that I have. It works good. But I am going to look for an electric grinder cause My entire arm hurt for almost 2 days after doing half a bag of the Duck Duck Goose. lol

This is the only "wet" food I can get Ollie to eat.

I feed a little bit of the Turkey with his raw. Kind of like seasoning. Sometimes they are definitely softer than others. But, I use an old coffee grinder to grind them up either way. Much quicker to mix in a pinch of freeze dried "dust" with his wet food rather than breaking off a piece and trying to mix it in.

Yep, it can do that. Bone content is high, around 10% I think. I figure that with the amount of the freeze dried that I mix in with the raw, probably 5% of my cats calories come from the freeze dried. That's a rough guess but it's probably fairly close. I'm consistent with it too because I weigh each meal including how much of the freeze dried I add. I feed no bone with his raw aside from what's in the little bit of freeze dried "seasoning". I use Alnutrin with eggshell as the mix. And, my 13 year old still get's a little bit clogged up at times. Can't imagine how bad it would be for him if he was getting a significant amount of bone.

The morsals were hard as rock. I am guessing that's why. I have lots of nw naturals but will wait a few days. At least til she does a normal poo. Chewy is giving money back. I told them it should be recalled

The S&C freeze dried varies in how hard or crumbly the morsels are. Just because they are hard I don't believe necessitates a recall. They are meant to be re-hydrated with water and while it may take a little more time for the hard nuggets to soak up the water, they still end up soaking it up and getting soft. Again, for my purposes, it doesn't matter if they are hard or not. I grind them up with an old coffee grinder. I haven't seen any difference in my cat's litter habits that can be attributed to whether I use a bag of softer or harder nuggets.
