Such a gentle, warm sense of humor!
Yes, it's not just the anecdotes that are so compelling, but his witty insight into people's personalities and behavior. The funny thing is, readers naturally believe that his descriptions of his partner are exaggerated, but according to "Herriot's" son, in real life "Siegfried" was far more colorful a character than in the books.

Finally finished "Disloyal". :sigh: And now for something light, I'm going to read "Bones in the Begonias", the 2nd book in the cozy mystery series our Sept book of the month book is from.

That's on my list to get. I have found that all of the shorter books are the same stories in the longer books, so I've simply shelved those, and will stick with "All Creatures Great and Small," "All Things Bright and Beautiful," "All Things Wise and Wonderful," "The Lord God Made Them All," and "Every Living Thing." Do I regret buying the others? Not even a little bit. I also bought "The Christmas Day Kitten," illustrated for young readers. I may have to get the rest of those, as well.

Well, I am being naughty. I should be reading The Dilemma or Home Before Dark as they both have holds on them.
I picked up The Godfather yesterday morning and couldn't put it down. I've seen the film many times but haven't reread
the book since the first time many years ago. I feel like I know these people after watching the film so many times but as
reading it now I remember how they had to cut some of the book because of length.

miss eveliina miss eveliina The Killer Across the Table is at the library drive-thru waiting to be picked up! Yikes, too many books!!

This morning I finished Y. It was a sad book, which I don't mind reading. I liked it; it was what I expected it to be.
Now I'm reading Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. I have high hopes for it and I think I'll love it.
Hopefully I'll finish or get close to finishing Today We Go Home, which I'm reading on e-book. I'm enjoying it a lot.

I'm still strolling thought "All Creatures Great and Small," not rushing, enjoying visiting with old friends again. Such a gentle, warm sense of humor! I know at least three people who were inspired to go into veterinary medicine by these books.
Oh I read those many years ago in high school. I had wanted to be a vet since I was 6 years old. I didn't wind up doing that but I still have the hardback books in my bookshelf. I just loved them.

Just getting the chance to listen to the audiobook - The Killer Across the Table: Unlocking the Secrets of Serial Killers and Predators with the FBI's Original Mindhunter by John E. Douglas.
I had it downloaded for when I was working away, but didn’t get a chance to listen.
That sounds fascinating. I've always been interested in psychological stuff and things like this. My daughter gave me a book about Ted Bundy "The Stranger Beside Me" which I plan to read.

I read "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin" and had to get in to the flowery wordy language, and was somewhat boring in spots, but it's Ben Franklin's own words. It was all before the Revolution and only a few words about his electricity experiments at all, but wanted to read it.

Now I'm on "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society", after also reading the September Book Club book "Arsenic in the Azaleas."

I have way too many books to read and I can't get myself out of The Godfather.
and I know I won't be able to finish Home Before Dark and The Dilemma, so I'll
return them and place another hold.

Another book, from my past, which I really enjoyed... Last week I watched the movie. It was good, also... A very sweet, different story; which I really enjoy.

Also gives perspectives and a mini-history lesson, about WWII. I tend towards historical fiction.

I used to go through a book, every 10 days, while I was commuting, on the train. It made the time go by better. Before 'readers' were popular, I would look around and see what everyone was reading, and took it from there.

I've read "The Stranger Beside Me" by Ann Rule years ago. It was an interesting, detailed read and I finished it in about two days.
I am not much into TV, but we have Netflix. There is a documentary on there called Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes. It was well put together if you are interested.

The Tygrine Cat on the Run (The Tygrine Cat #2) by Inbali Iserles
The Tygrine Cat on the Run
Long before humans walked the earth, there were two tribes of cats: the Sa Mau of the Nile Delta, and the Abyssinia Tygrine from ancient Nubia. Armed with mysterious powers, the ruthless Sa sought to crush the Tygrine and condemn all cats to darkness. Even those who believe the legend claim the tribes became extinct 9,000 years ago with the domestication of cats. They are mistaken… Mati lives among the street cats at Cressida Lock. But Mati is different – he is a Tygrine, the last of his kind. The Suzerain, his implacable foe, has set a murderous creature on his trail. As a shadow falls over Cressida Lock, the young cat must find the strength to lead his friends from danger.
In this heart-stopping sequel to The Tygrine Cat, Mati must pass through three gates of the feline spirit realm and confront his enemies. The first gate takes him to a place of chaos and flame; the second to the ancient land of his ancestors; the last to the world of memory, where his fallen friends remain. Can cruelty and despair crush Mati’s will – or is there an even greater power at work?

Mia6 Mia6 , yes I have a dark streak in reading!

artiemom artiemom , Yes! I loved seeing what other people had.

Still in the psychological realm but not crime I read the memoir "The Center Cannot Hold" by a woman college professor and her struggle with psychosis. It was hard to read imagining someone going through this but I loved it. What a struggle and strength. Fascinating.

I think the character of David Rossi, played by Joe Mantegna, of the tv program Criminal Minds, was based on John Douglas.
HUH...I think you may well be right on that one.

I've read "The Stranger Beside Me" by Ann Rule years ago.
I really enjoy Anne Rule's true crime books. And her daughter, Leslie Rule write excellent paranormal non-fiction.

I'm now happily immersed in "All Things Bright and Beautiful."

I haven’t read anything by Leslie.
Do you have any recommendations?
:)
I especially liked "When the Ghost Screams" and "Ghosts Among Us."

Am just starting "All Things Wise and Wonderful." James is in the RAF, in training, and missing home a LOT!
