All I can find are studies that say both are safe and effective:
Efficacy and safety of a combination of selamectin plus sarolaner for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations and the treatment of ear mites in cats presented as veterinary patients in the United States

Safety of concurrent treatment of cats with fluralaner and emodepsid–praziquantel

Neurologic Event Potential and Bravecto, Credelio, Nexgard, Simparica.

But both are required to have an insert saying they may cause neurological events, which means their original trials must have shown that. I can't find any info on how often it happens though.

It does sound like they both will do a good job of getting rid of fleas and ticks though.

Flea combs are the best. If you put a small bowl of soapy water by your grooming place, just put the fleas in there and they'll die. Be VERY careful with the Black Flag and the Bravecto!!! Insecticides kill. They kill more than insects. Make sure she doesn't put the spray anywhere your cats go. And you can google for more information about how dangerous Bravecto is. We are trying to get it pulled from the market. I would NEVER buy it. Merck Animal Health USA.
The kitties dont have fleas thankfully. Thats the technique i use when they used to have fleas. What we have are ticks. 🤮 I dont like using flea meds so i only used them a few times a year.

We will be careful with the black flag. I keep the cats in my room until its fully dry and theres no smell. I will remind her again not to spray anywhere near the cats areas. i asked her to let me fumigate but she got funny and said she wanted to do it herself. I will keep an eye on her though. Thank you for the advice on bravecto. I was going to research before using it.

The ticks indoors have lessened and we only saw one today. So i think its true what i read that they dont like being inside air conditioned homes. I have been checking the cats and havent seen a single tick on them thankfully.

Yeah.....after reading some of the legit info about bravecto I would never use it. Ask your vet about revolution+, as that's one of the safer topical treatments that's actually effective.
The sarolaner in Revolution Plus is in the same class (isoxazoline pesticides) as fluralaner (Bravecto) and all isoxazoline class products have been implicated in neurotoxicity events. So there may not be much of a difference.
Advantage is the only one I trust and the only one I use.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that, but I'm definitely going to look into it.
I had no idea revolution was having issues. Been using it for 8 years for my two cats. :sigh: Is advantage truly safer? I always hate using these products, but always have the bad luck of living with people with dogs.

Revolution Plus is the one that has serolaner. If you've been using regular Revolution with no trouble it should be fine to keep using it.

Personally, I prefer removing ticks manually to using pesticides. Ticks are tough so any pesticide that kills them has to be tough too. Since the kitties haven't gotten any so far, I think you're probably over the worst of it and they won't need anything applied.

I've used it for years with never any bad reaction or problem. Can't say that about another brand which has not been discussed here, Adams. I applied that product to a cat, who promptly foamed at the mouth. Thankfully, he was okay. I immediately bathed him and of course I will never buy any of their products again! Any insecticide is designed to kill--insects. That means it is not harmless. But when I have had to use a flea topical, Advantage is what I use.

Oh, i see. Thank you! I hate changing medications especially with all the stories i have heard of pets having bad reactions to flea meds. Havent had any issues with revolution and i just apply it a few times a year. Keeps the fleas away.

We still see a few ticks here and there inside the house, but its gotten much better. None of them have gotten on the kitties, thankfully. Been checking them throughout the day.

How scary! We have been using the product adams on my nieces dog. We havent had any issues so far. Thankfully your cat was okay. :sigh: I am going to keep up with revolution for now. Been using it for so long and it controls the fleas really well, and my cats have never reacted badly. Hopefully my niece can get the ticks on her dog under control. She said she wont bring him in until he is completely cleared.

She says the bug spray they bought seems to be killing the ticks in the garage, so hopefully they will be gone soon. I am not sure if they will keep us with giving the dog flea medication. i hope this taught them a lesson.

We still see a tick here and there inside the house. But it seems to be improving. They aren't bothering the kitties thankfully. I only saw one tick today in the house.

Its just been an inconvenience. I home cook for the cats and have a deep freezer in the garage. My small space in the indoor fridge is full with cat food so its making it hard to buy stuff for myself. :( My sister doesnt want the freezer inside the house in case there are bugs hiding inside. Right now it has dead bugs all over it, so i am scared to keep food inside with all the spraying they are doing in there.

I was so tempted to get a mini freezer for now and keep it in my room, but its such a waste of money. :livid:

-

About work: Miami Dade College has finally opened up again and students return to the campus next monday. However, they approved me for remote work due to my health issues.

You could look on trading apps like offer up or letgo and buy a cheap used one, then resell it later. You could probably get as much or almost as much as you paid.

Working from home would be great if they let you keep doing it.

Agree with Talien Talien ! on both points.
When my roomies and I were talking about combining households, she had a full size refrigerator/freezer that they kept in their garage to augument their big beast in their kitchen, because they liked to buy a lot of meat and store it in the garage freezer. Unfortunately, the electric in my garage no longer works for some unknown reason, so they let the garage fridge go. (The kitchen one, a big SubZero, went with their house.) They had a really small unit that actually fits on my kitchen table! so they have that plus half of my refrigertor and freezer.

Thats a good idea! Going to start looking around now. Thank you! :heartshape:

I am hoping my job will be more open to remote work from now on. But they put a warning in the email that employees will be called back to campus if the school finds it necessary. But hopefully they will see its possible to work just as well from home. I will definitely ask later on once they arent so busy.

Thats too bad that the electricity doesnt work in your garage. My mom got me used to always having an extra freezer. We always bulk buy and theres always been a lot of people in the houses i live in. Plus, the cats food takes up space. I saw a mini freezer online on amazon. I didnt know they made them that small. Im trying to see if anyone is selling one nearby. 🤞

We found five ticks inside today. :sigh: Not sure how they are getting in, or if they are hiding. I read online that they dont live long indoors.

If you decide you need something on the cats to kill the ticks, I've had pretty decent success with Seresto collars. Granted, I've only used them on the dogs, not the cats, but I've found dead ticks in the dogs' beds so I know it works. I think it's one of the lower toxicity tick killers available.

Thank you! I will look into that product.

So far the ticks havent gotten on the kitties. But i did just find 3 ticks crawling around the floor. :sigh: i think my niece is spraying some flea/tick bug spray this weekend downstairs. Not sure if we will be able to fully get rid of these bugs. They seem to be hiding around the house. I have been putting diametous earth on the edges of the floor, not sure if it is helping.

Yeah, so many people "upgrade" and then want to let their existing appliances go. Hopefully you'll find what you need for a good price. We have a business close to us that sells used and refurbished appliances. I haven't bought from them but a friend used to. It's good if you aren't looking for the $$$ huge bells-and-whistles appliances -- who wants those? I don't!

exactly just need something to get me by until i can use my bigger freezer.

I havent felt great this weekend. Had some cramping pain and was stuck in bed (get this pain sometimes because of my health issues). Spent most of the weekend sleeping, which i hate doing. Feels like a wasted day. I was about to go up a few minutes ago only to find my cat Kitty left a piece of poop on Elsas place mat where her food bowl is. I have to keep the cats eating area near their toilet because of the toddler in the house. Kitty has always had an issue where she sometimes leaves a piece of poop in front of the litter box from time to time. i think she just gets rushed to go to the box.

Never seen her leave poop in an eating area. Had to clean everything with an enzymatic clean just to be sure there was no smell anywhere. And mop up the area to make sure its clean.:paranoid: They drive me crazy, they really do.

I looked around to see if we had any ticks because my niece said she hadnt seen any all day. Ended up finding around 6-7 ticks. i still dont know if they are coming in through the doors. Or if they are in the walls. Because they always seem to be near an outlet.
We havent been able to spray a bug spray inside, and i dont know if it will actually help. :ruminating::nervous::barfgreen:

I would not use insecticides indoors. Spraying around the perimeter of the house, outside, and applying flea topical (Advantage) to cats would be my plan. Since the ticks are there, it'll be an ongoing thing to check the house for them.
Yeah, accidents happen. No big deal IMHO. We're so fortunate to have the enzymatic cleaners that really do take care of the residue if there is any.
Hope you feel better soon. I'm not one to sleep during the daytime, either and it really cramps my style (no pun intended) to have to do so. But sometimes you have to. Hope you'll have a better week!

We've treated the outdoors, and the dog. We treated the garage. All it did was drive them inside. Just found a tick in my room and my nieces room and we are on the second floor. We're going to have to spray, it seems to be getting worse. The bug in my nieces room was on her bed. What if the tick decides to attach to her baby? Mine was on the wall near my bed. :barfgreen:

Its just odd. i read online they can only survive indoors for a few days. But they walk around just fine and i am finding baby ticks.

The only way they could really be getting into bedrooms is under the door or on people's clothes. Can't do much about them hitching a ride besides keep looking at your clothes, but if you sprinkle DE on each side of the door it should help keep them from crawling under it.

Pregnant ticks giving birth indoors or outdoors and then coming indoors. If you do treat indoors, it would be best to find a "bomb" type thing, or the FleaBusters type treatment that you work into the carpet and then vacuum. IDK what treatments there are to remove ticks, though. Just praying it's researched carefully and that nothing that could harm cats is used.

I'll try the DE that's a good idea. 👍

It must have gotten in my clothes, because i check my shoes before heading up.

No worries, the kitties will be in my room until the smell is completely gone. We don't spray anywhere that they lie down. It's how I've always handled spraying bug spray. I do want to avoid bug bombs because they'll get everywhere.

Plus we tried a bug bomb in the garage and when we checked the ticks were calmly walking on the poison.

We don't have carpet, just tile. We think they might be hiding in the outlets. But i think puff some DE into them. But i see ticks near the outlets still.

Well, be careful with the electrical. I've never heard of anyone doing that so I'm not saying pro or con, just that I wouldn't think putting ANYTHING into an electrical outlet except a plug would be a great idea.

If you do that take off the cover plate and blow it into the box itself and not through the plug. Better still if you trip the breaker for the circuit for each outlet.

Although if you find evidence they are in the outlets a better way to kill them would be to blow smoke into it for a few minutes. That would be about the only time you'd want someone smoking inside the house.
