I think I over-did my first walk. Calf are cramping big time. I can see a Charlie Horse happening sometime during the night while I am sleeping. I think tomorrow after I drop the youngest off for his ROTC event, I am going to head over to the State Park and go for a 3 mile trail walk.

Make sure you stay hydrated, you need a lot more water than you think you do. A few gentle stretches before and after a walk always help too.

I got up early this morning (hairball on the bed situation, I'll spare you the details.......) so I had time for an hour of yoga before I had to start work.

It's raining now, but it's supposed to clear up this afternoon, so I'll go for a walk later.

I can't drink water before or during walks. Makes me have to use the bathroom. I drink plenty of water throughout the day (at least half my weight in ounces) so I am definitely well hydrated.

Oh, I know that feeling. I'm lucky to live in the woods. Plenty of trees to dodge behind.

Had a pretty good day. Started with an hour of yoga, then a 90 minute walk, then another 30 minutes of yoga.

That's beautiful! Was the ride past all the cabbage stinky?
I didn't notice any smell, but it was pretty windy. Maybe that's why.

I too live near plenty of woods but until it gets a little colder, I am going to be walking through neighborhoods. Not all neighborhoods are as lucky as me and have lots of woods around them. When it gets colder and the State Park gets less crowded, I will be able to walk the trails with no fear of others.

Reading about you guys and your super long walks leaves me in awe. I don't know how you do it. Even listening to music, I so quickly get bored. Interesting though, I can easily lose an hour, or more, working in the yard or garden. But just walking. Boring.

If you go pee twice, it empties out your bladder. Drink your water an hour ahead of time, then go to the bathroom twice.

I like to get away from my mother. On my 2 hour walk I listen to music, think, make plans and to-do lists in my head, wave to people, talk to animals that I see, talk to my neighbors sometimes, then the last 20 minutes I say a prayer.

I drink so much water, I pee about 4x an hour sometimes.

You gotta pee once for every 8oz then. I drink 16oz, so I pee twice.
I guess I need to pay closer attention to my water vs pee ratio in a day. I just know that I am constantly filling up my 20 oz water bottle at work and use the bathroom a lot. At home I guzzle 16 oz water bottles in one sip throughout the day and I seem to pee less. Guess I am more active at home and absorb more of the water.

I really love my walks. It gives my brain chance to relax after work. Also, I'm a bit of a day dreamer. Walking gives me the chance to think about re-painting my room, or building a cat tree, or what I would do if I had a pony.

:cloud9:

45 minutes of power yoga, a 90 minute walk and then 40 minutes of deep stretch yin yoga today.

I was thinking about you M maggiedemi when I was walking yesterday. You seem to dress for how you will feel at the end of your walk when you are hot and sweaty. I dress for how I feel at the beginning and just take off layers as I go. Yesterday I had on a sweatshirt and fleece hoodie. Hoodie stayed on until almost the end of the my walk but just had to take it off as I was getting too warm. Plus tying the hoodie around my waist gives me some added weight to build up my leg muscles. ;)

Great suggestions! Fleece hoodies are wonderful. Zipped up almost as warm as a coat but you can unzip or even take off and tie around your waist if you get too warm.

Short walk after work.

Saw a buck who was not too happy that I was walking near his women (2 does) and kids (2 babies). He looked like he was standing guard while everyone ate.

Also heard a dog getting a lecture about why he shouldn't poop in the house

No chance on getting hot and sweaty here in NY until next spring. It's freezing! I tried layering on my 2 hour walk today. I wore a turtleneck under a flannel. I was still cold! Fleece seems to be the only thing that keeps me warm. I need to get some more sweatshirts.

I love walking in the cold because of the no sweat thing. Cold here in MD too but my walk entails some killer hills so that is mainly when I tend to get hot. Otherwise I would be fine with keeping the fleece hoodie on the entire time.

I agree, that's a plus of the cooler weather. But, for me, there's a very short window between when it's cool enough that I can walk without sweating, and so cool that my nose will run. :hmmm:

I didn't walk yesterday, but I did dig out a patch of weedy yarrow and put down grass seed, so hopefully it will stay warm a while yet, so that the seeds can sprout and the baby grass blades can grow strong enough to survive winter.

It was cool yesterday, and I had my fleece jacket on at first, but after a bit I peeled it off, was just in short sleeves. The air is getting cooler, but the sun still has warmth. ☀
