Yeah, I'd say those prices are pretty high! $12.50 for Grape-Nuts! (And Grape-Nuts aren't even good, lol). I don't buy them so I don't know the price off-hand but Walmart's site has them listed for $3.74. Yup, imported food definitely costs more.

Peanut butter is the one thing I always heard Americans complain about not being able to find when overseas, but I suppose most of them were in Germany or somewhere in Asia, not in Australia.

I mean, $11AUS is not equal to $11US, but even with the exchange, the prices are still jacked up.

I had trouble finding good PB when I studied abroad in France, but they prefer their nutella there.

That still used to be the case in Germany two decades ago; what you could get was very dry, overpriced "natural" peanut butter you could barely spread. Nowadays most supermarkets carry a couple of brands, and even European peanut butter is pretty much the same as the American stuff. Nutella is still more popular and cheaper.

Vegemite and especially Marmite are too salty for me.

Hands down, it's a Reuben.

Second favorite is what we call the Big Sandwich. I bake a round loaf of bread, slice it in half horizontally, slather mayo and mustard on both sides. Then fill with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and whatever deli meats we have. A lot of times, if I know ahead of time that I'm making it, Rick will run to the store for all kinds of deli meats for the Sandwich. Fill the Sandwich and let it sit for an hour or so. Sometimes I'll wrap it in foil and bake it, just long enough for all the cheeses to melt together. This is always our New Year's Eve supper when we're watching movies. It's very filling and it's just wonderful. I made it one time when we had friends in for a card night; they loved it, too. Yum.

That sounds like a sub, just with round bread instead of a regular sub bun. You could call it the UFO sub.

Use the Vegemite sparingly. I like it on a toasted bagel with cream cheese, thinly sliced red onion and sliced tomato. The Vegemite adds a salty, umami flavor that works well with everything else. If there is an imported foods aisle in your local grocery store, you may find it there. If not, you can ask them to order it for you. A lot of people think Vegemite is nasty because they watch those fools on YT do "challenges" where they eat a huge spoonful of it. That's not the way it's intended to be eaten. It's also great in broths, gravies and soups. You use it the same way you'd use boullion. I've done this too.

Its nice on plain bagels too..did that when I was living over there.
Thinking about it. I have free shopping with Amazon and I'll try anything once. When you mentioned
hot buttered toast and cheese I got a jones goin' on for it. I love bagels as well so I just may try it.

Cool..one thing I miss from living in USA is those great big pretzel things..ate heaps of those..lol

You mean those big soft pretzels that you dip in dipping sauce? They used to sell those at the mall when I was a kid, I had them a few times. Never bought them at a grocery store.

I eat sandwiches a lot, but just basic ones. Deli ham or turke with baby spinach, cheese, mayo, mustard and a touch of horseradish. The veggie sandwich from Subway is good too,

I make grilled cheese with mayo on the inside. Also fried egg, with mayo and cheese.

After reading all the posts, now I have good ideas and want to make a sandwich -the breakfast one sounds great!
