RAIN WILL BE WONDERFUL
I’m not sure I’ll recognize it...if we ever get any! :) An article in the paper said it hasn’t rained since June 16. We MAY get some tomorrow. Possibly. Perhaps,
How are you holding up? I hope it can be contained. How are the babies doing?đź’–
We’re all okay except my blood pressure has spiked. I’ve never had high blood pressure in my life. The older I get, the worse I deal with stress. It’s an eye opener. The girls are back to normal, thankfully.

The fire is 100% contained, but that doesn’t mean it’s out. There are still hot spots so we remain on alert. But emergency crews are now going into areas to assess the damage. The initial estimate of 600 homes destroyed has been revised upward to more than an actual 2,400 homes in ruins. The stories in the paper each morning bring me to tears.

Air quality remains at “very unhealthy” to “hazardous.” As isolating as COVID has been, this is worse. With the virus, we could still see and talk to people from a distance on our morning walks. No walks now. It’s not safe to be outside, and of course, we don’t do inside with people because of COVID.

There are positives, of course. Many, many relief efforts are underway. People are donating time, goods, and money. It will take a sustained effort for a long time to provide all the help that’s needed.

One last post here. As I said, the fire is contained although some spots continue to smolder. Air quality is ok for the most part. There are lots of people and organizations jumping in to help those who’ve lost their homes, their possessions, their livelihoods. But. But. For those of us who didn’t lose our homes or livelihoods and aren’t on the front lines, we can’t really imagine the horror.

If you don’t want to cry, don’t read on.

We have two young women who come every three weeks to clean. They came this morning. I’ve been dreading it because one of them lives in a mobile home with her young daughter and two cats, and so many mobile and manufactured home communities were a total loss. I asked them if they, their families, and homes were ok. One said yes. The other...the other put her head down and started to cry. Her family is safe, but everything is gone. They let her return yesterday. She found the bodies of her two cats.
“At least,” she said, “they were together.” All I could do was cry with her. Everything I said seemed so hollow.

So in between periods of tears today remembering her kitties, I shake myself and say, “Stop being depressed. Nothing happened to you or your loved ones. Stop whining and give back.”

Remember that even when the fires stop, there will be other matters to consider.

Denuded slopes will be a place for mudslides; you might remember those down in Santa Barbara in 2017 or thereabout when, among other things, that house-sized rock ended up on Hwy 101.

Rain is supposed to be here this afternoon :hyper: . It is predicted to stay until Saturday. I can only hope the winds don't get too high. For then we are back to square one. I am hoping for long term drizzle!

Be careful about being at the bottom of a formerly forested slope for too long. That drizzle can rev up.

Praying for all you all up there!

I remember! At least that’s not a worry here. The fire ran alongside I-5 through the widest part of the valley. It never came close to even the slopes at the base of the mountains.
remember to take care of yourself too,
:redheartpump: :hugs:

It was supposed to rain last Friday. Nope. It was supposed to rain earlier this week. Nope. Rain showers are predicted for tonight, but I just checked the radar and it looks like it will fizzle out before it reaches us.

Anybody know anyone in Detroit Oregon? I understand that it and nearby communities were ravaged by a fire.

I had to look it up. It’s really isolated and in the mountains. Only one road going through it and it’s closed on either side so it’s completely cut off. Horrible.
