Thanks. Luckily i found goat milk and a can of evaporated milk at HEB. Long story short, my neighbor found two kittens in front of his house. He told me he waited for two hours to see if the mother cat would come around but she’s a no show. How much to feed and how often?

Did you check those two websites I posted?? Both have tons of info regarding how to bottlefeed, types of bottles, nipples, how much, how to hold them, what to do as they grow...

What did you end up doing?

Hi

I used a small syringe from my reef tank for dosing calcium to feed them every 2-3 hr. Took a few tries before they figured things out. They are probably between 1-3 days old with eyes partially opened. No teeh just pink gums. Theyre a pair of whiners as expected.

I hope the mother isnt too devastated from not able to find her babies. Or maybe she abandoned them all together. Either way theyre mine now.. All mine :) :) :)
The black one is the runt of the two.
And TY for the links!

How old are the kittens? How much do they weigh?

Very good you found goat milk. Observe, having goat milk you dont need no evaporated milk.

Evaporated milk may be used as a base for emergency kitten glop, but you dont need it if you have the real thing; goat milk or a good kmr.

I drove around last night to see if i could spot a distress mom looking for her babies with no lucks. The kittes are probably weigh less than a pound each but have an appetite of a full grown lion. I’ll keep the evaoprated milk just in case i need it in the future. Thanks!

I'm confused I thought you said you were feeding them?

You need to obtain some goat milk or Kitten Milk Replacer immediately if you didn't already, and a bottle with a kitten appropriate nipple or a syringe, and review this website - be very sure to hold the kitten properly when feeding it;

I was feeding them goat milk and egg yolk mixed in. The gray one is eating fine but the black one isnt eating much. I used a small tiny syringe. No breathing problem that i can see. Whats the best feeding position?

Hi John.

In what position have you been holding them while feeding?

Think back carefully.......in those days between your postings (Tuesday-today), during any of the feedings, did the black kitten cough, gag, sneeze or 'choke' ?

Your question about feeding position is what has prompted my questions. The reason for feeding kittens 'right side up' (head high, belly down) is to reduce the chances of the kitten "aspirating" - breathing in - any of the liquid food. Another part of proper technique is to only instill tiny amounts, drops, of the milk at a time, withdrawing the syringe and allowing the kitten to swallow.

Cats, in particular, are susceptible to a type of pneumonia caused by the aspiration of liquids/foods. It's most serious.

If you think there's any chance that this happened, that's cause for immediate Vet exam/care. [if this scenario occurred, it would likely have been before yesterday when you say he "stopped eating and looking lethargic"]
