What breed would my cat be?

Hi guys,

I have my cat for more than 1 year now. A connection of mine found the cat in the woods in Belgium as it was wandering there for a few weeks and it looked like he lost his way/home.

I have attached several pictures. He has quite long hair and his tail looks like a plume (I’d say about 7-8cm wide). He is one of the most attached cats that I have ever known. He always is sitting close to me, always waits at my door when I return and as soon as I lay down on the couch he jumps on my chest or cuddles right next to me. He is like a king in purring and cuddling.

I have been asked the question a lot about which breed he is and I honestly have no clue.
Can you help me out?

Hi there! He is gorgeous!!!! I usually take a guess and if I 'mess up' one of the 'expert members' will follow up to let you know where I went wrong! He is a domestic long haired (DLH) orange tabby with white. The orange color is formally called 'red'. The "M' on the forehead is a standard trait of tabbies.. He might have what they call a mackerel pattern to his markings, but that part I am unsure of. Most cats fall into the 'domestic' category and really don't have a particular breed to them.

But I know it's a tabby coat..but i dont know the name of the color yet..I know hes a DSH .just dont know name of the colors

Color is brown tabby (black-based tabby). Tabby pattern could be described as either mackerel or broken mackerel (mackerel tabbies often have some stripes broken up into spots). Cute!

Ah, Belgium, neh? The money bet its a domestic longhair. But in these countries the German Longhair is quite common, so, let guess on this label... Please google and compare!


Btw, where do you live? Country, that is. Belgium or somewhere else?

Hi there, thank you for your reply.
I live in Belgium indeed

I googled for German Longhair and have read that you should be able to tell the difference based on their personality as German Longhairs would be very sociable and affection-needy. I’m still not an expert though so don’t know if can 100% confirm.

I have had a few cats in my life and I do have to say that this is the first one who is very attached, sometimes he’s more like a little dog that likes to be with you all the time. :-)
