just for precaution, anyone had experience with cat daycares?

It's not happening any time soon, but there will be a time where i have to leave the house for several days either for family or work reason. I live alone and none of my family or friends that i trust that much like animals.

So the option is leaving them into veterinary or groomer services that also provide daycare/hotel services for cats.

1. Will my cat hate me for it? Will she think i abandoned her ?
2. How to tell if a service is legit / trustworthy. Like what are signs of red flags and stuff?

I'm in the travel industry, so I travel a lot (well, I used to, before the plague) and use an app-based service called Petbacker, which has listings from private individuals as well as pet hotels. I like it because there are extensive reviews from the community, it's full of genuine animal lovers and pet owners, and they don't release the money until the job is completed. My friends also recommend a similar app called Pawshake. There's the option to have the sitter drop by your house instead, too, if your cat is the type who hates change.

It all depends on your cat's personality and how he adapts to a change in surroundings or people. (Personally, my cat doesn't mind it; he got a little attached to one of the sitters and was a little sad when I took him home. lol)

Thank you. I live in south east asia. I haven't checked yet if these services are available here, but i suspect are not. There are tons of pet hotels here, but i never had experience for it.

For now basically my criteria is:
1. Good looking facilities and friendly staff
2. Possibly cat exclusive so even if they keep the cats and dogs in separate room, the smell might still mingle and will freak out the cat.

I'm in SE Asia too! Petbacker seems to be active in most SE countries, as Ive checked it while traveling. It's geolocation-based, so when I activate the app while traveling, I see the posts in the vicinity. Lots of pet lovers out there who want to make a few extra bucks.

She can only stay in your room?
for now at least. she's still afraid to explore outside. sometimes when i open the door, she gave signal she wants out, explore few steps, sniff stuff the go back all on her own. i just watched if she does dangerous stuff (which thankfully never so far) . it will probably change when she got used to everything but so far i only cat-proof my room. but this is consideration in the future so she might be able to live in the living room when she got used to the whole house.

Your vet is probably the best bet, if the dogs and cats are on different floors they should be ok. Otherwise, talk to local people about which cat hotels have a good reputation.

Cats don't like to go to boarding kennels but she'll manage. If you make a friend you trust to care for her in your room later on, that would be better though.

Yeah, after some thinking it is a good choice. The vet would've known her medical history and diet. Plus i know the people there. That might be my first choice unless i find better place.

I see. Yeah, by that point I would probably just have someone come by the house. I've never used a babysitting service but I'd opt for that before a daycare. Cats hate being away from their territory and they also despise other strange cats. A cat daycare sounds like a nightmare scenario for a cat. It's also a surefire way for them to come back home with some kind of virus.

A good boarding kennel will have individual kennels for each pet, and require all the appropriate vaccinations. They'll also have excellent cleaning routines and ventilation systems designed to minimize the spread of germs. While they may have communal playtime (for dogs), they should also give the choice to opt out.

So, I don't know how pet hotels are run in your area, but if they just put your cat in a room with all the other cats, no, definitely don't use one like that. Only use one with individual kennels and ask about their sanitation procedures.

I've never left a cat at a boarding kennel but my dogs have never gotten sick from staying at one.

makes sense. i do ask my vet, they do require the cat to be at least 1Kg, and vaccinated. i think they are quite trustworthy and i see how the handle animals quite gently.

Or "stress related urinary blockage" ... which you DO NOT want. :(
