Hiding in a closet?

Hello all,

So I recently relocated from NY to NC. I brought my orange cat with me, cause...he's my cat. At first, he was a little traumatiazed from an 8 hour car ride in a crate (totally understandable). And over the past month, he was slowly getting over that trauma. He was very loving, seemed very happy, and overall was ok. But over the past week, he's been sleeping in a nook I had in the closet of my new place. And I'm not entirely sure why.

On the one hand, its secluded and safe. On the other, he was sleeping on the couch while I watched tv a week ago with no issues.

So far as I can tell, there are no health issues. No limping, no lack of eating/drinking. He's still using the litter box. He's just in the closet. Should I be worried?

Not particularly. Adult cats sometimes like secluded spots, and can start going back under the bed to sleep years after they stopped or whatever. It doesn't necessarily mean anything. Any change in behavior, it makes sense to look at all the other stuff, eating, litter box, other behaviors, but in isolation this one thing probably doesn't mean anything.

I grew up with dogs and cats, but I always understood dogs better then cats. Idk why, just they make more sense to me.

This seems like very normal cat behavior. Cats often enjoy sleeping/ going into small areas where they can hide and feel safe. All of my cats have had a favorite place that they like to go to sleep/hide, almost always secluded

Having shared our home with both cats and dogs I can relate to your above quote. But that's one of the unique and endearing traits about cats. I agree with the above members that it doesn't sound alarming. Obviously if you notice any other unusual behaviors, e.g. loss of appetite, not using the litter box, etc. you would contact a vet. This reminds me of one of our cats who suddenly and, for no apparent reason, decided to sleep in the laundry basket of our closet.
