We've noticed a blotch on our youngest cat's neck and we're wondering what it is. If there's reason for concern we'll shoot her straight to the vet, but with the current COVID situation in TX we're trying to keep a low profile.

We'd seen splotches on her neck before but this seems to have been there for a long time. She eats from stainless and drinks from ceramic, all cleaned regularly. The two other cats in the house have no signs of chin acne (we actually learned the term chin acne shortly after bringing this cat home, when she induced some stress-related chin acne on our other cats!).

If anybody has any thoughts based on the attached pics of what might be going on with Harper I'd appreciate any advice. She's definitely acting normal in every way so I'm not overly concerned, but if this might be something I'd like to nip it in the bud sooner rather than later.

Cheers,

Roger

Hi! That isn't chin acne, at least not how it usually appears. Can you send these photos to your vet and ask them what they think?

The photo in this article gives you an idea of what chin acne looks like. I won't hazard a guess as to what's going on with your kitty, hopefully your vet can determine what's going on.

As the other user mentioned, that isn’t cat acne. One of my cats has cat acne, and It definitely isn’t that. It’s like little specs almost. I’d have your vet check It out ASAP! 😁

It doesn't look like chin acne--smaller spots around the lower mouth/chin area. This looks like a scratch from rigorous grooming or a bug bite. Our cats get this sometimes near their ears.

My cat currently has something similar (and so far every summer.) It's a wound from scratching herself. Usually it happens after a mosquito bite or a flea bite. Depending on the area it might take a long while to recover if he keeps scratching the same place.

But skin conditions look alike and not possible to diagnose through pictures. Once even a vet couldn't understand just by looking with bare eyes if what my cat had was an allergic reaction or fungus for example.

I'm kind of in your situation right now - personally, I put watery antiseptic on it (cream ones get her attention and she messes with it more.) If it gets worse, I would take her to the vet right away. Otherwise I would give it 2 weeks to recover on its own.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions all. Today I took her to the vet. The vet wasn't overly concerned, gave us some antibiotic cream w/steroids and said to come back if it's not cleared up in a while.

Cheers,

Roger
