The ship for a balanced budget sailed away long ago for the Federal government but many states have to balance their budget. That is why many states have a rainy day fund. Ohio did have a decent size fund but this has blown right through it.

Got an email this morning from the MVA (may be DMV where you live) that the appointment for my youngest to get his Learner's Permit has been canceled...AGAIN! This is the second time. I understood the first time because Covid19 was just ramping up but there hasn't been any cases in our area for months!! The only ones who got it in the beginning were Deputies and people in the local nursing home. That was March or April??

I am about to just tell my youngest we will wait to make another appointment. No point making it and having him disappointed for a third time. :angryfire::angryfire::angryfire:

When we were set to reopen, masks with valves were not allowed for us as we were told they weren't effective. Now they are finally telling the public. They may be easier/more comfortable to wear because you get better air flow, but that also means you are possibly spreading because you are no longer "trapping" your exhaled breath. If you use a valve mask, I would urge you to rethink what you are wearing. Their may be some valve masks that have effective filters for both inhale AND exhale, but from what I've seen on-line for sale, it seems they are not the ones being sold.
Those face masks with breathing valves? They aren't effective, doctors say

They probably have some underlying condition that makes them vulnerable. Supposedly people with pulmonary problems tend to get it bad regardless of age or overall health.
the virus cause the blood to clots. all patients, all humans have an underlying health condition that is currently known to them or they are unaware of having. And even if you think you are young or healthy this virus causes damage to internal organs, like the 27 year old CNN reporter who didn't have major lung damage, but her appendix ruptured and had to have parts of her colon removed thanks to the virus attacking her organs. all covid medical reports from autopsies state that this virus causes major clotting in the body.

the mask is used to prevent the wearer from coughing, talking, sneezing out micro droplets of virus into the air and surfaces that others may touch or breathe in. if everyone wore masks guess what would happen, everyone will be coughing, sneezing into the mask, and doing so dramatically reduces the virus being air borne or on surfaces. when a person sneezes , virus in the sneeze can travel a good 6 meters on to other surface in a wide spray. the virus can stay on objects 24 hours or longer.

I think this is from this article:
or at least it's from that press release. It's actually just part of an incomplete study and is not saying 500,000 people are spreading infection, just that many may have or have had the virus, nationwide, not just NSW. She said:

Preliminary results of studies to discover how many people are naturally immune to COVID-19 suggest between 250,000 and 500,000 Australians may have already been infected, NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant says.

"If we look at how many people in the community that have been exposed and infected, and we are doing serological surveys, so this is not absolute, we would probably estimate that it may be around 1 to 2 per cent of the population has been exposed to COVID," Dr Chant said.

and Professor Esterman added:

"They often don't go and get tested so there's this hidden pool of people out there. Having said that, those who are asymptomatic often are probably less infectious and less likely to spread it."

Actually, to be more accurate.
Not ALL humans have an underlying condition...Although I will agree that auto immune diseases are on the rise, and many people are immune-compromised in some way. I am really starting to believe that this virus isn't some super bug, it is US that are the problem....but further discussion on that I think belongs in the IMO thread.

Not everyone who gets the Novel Coronavirus or SARS Cov-2, will get blood clots and suffer long term damage and have thier organs attacked. It is the disease Covid-19, that you MAY get from a SARS Cov-2 infection that causes the more severe symptoms, like blood clotting.
Studies have shown that it is our own immune response to the viral infection of SARS Cov-2, that causes the inflammatory reaction leading to the disease Covid-19. But not everyone will have the over reactive immune response. This over reactive inflammatory response can/may affect the lungs, or any other organ and/or cause the clotting or vasculitis (Covdi-19). And most do and will recover from the Covid-19 disease, not all those affected from Covid-19 will result in permanent damage.

And, it's not necessarily everyone who tests positive for SARS Cov-2, actually have Covid-19. They have tested positive for the virus that causes the disease Covid-19. But because we still don't know everything about the disease, it's all being lumped together.

In an autopsy, you are looking at severely affected people...I mean, they did die, so the evidence of them being riddled with clotting is to be expected. Same with those who needed medical intervention...
What I would really love to see, is testing done on those with mild symptoms and those who are asymptomatic. To test and see if the inflammatory response by our immune system (that could attack ANY system of the body) really is the catalyst leading to Covid-19, (meaning that our immune systems are at fault) OR does everyone get Covid-19 from the SARS Cov-2 virus and just in varying severity, like compared to a Zoster infection that causes Chicken Pox. Pretty well everyone who gets infected with Varicella Zoster, will develop Chicken Pox (to varying degrees of severity). But not all of them will get the secondary or more serious diseases associated with a Zoster infection. And same goes for Shingles. Not everyone who gets Chicken pox will develop Shingles later in life...

SARS-CoV-2 And COVID-19: What's The Difference?

COVID-19 is not a virus, but SARS-CoV-2 is

It depends what you consider an underlying condition. Something like 80% of Americans are overweight, and many who aren't have a drug addiction or an eating disorder. How many have asthma, allergies, etc.? We're a mess really.

But then you hear about the marathon runner who died from it, with no obvious underlying conditions, and clearly not overweight. Weird stuff.

My friends in Chicago may have had a possible exposure. They both are getting tested, just in case. She didn't say if either felt sick or anything. Hoping they don't have it.

Does anyone know accurate details on when someone can test positive? I may be helping with some yard work (obviously only if it is safe and she will cancel if they are sick/test positive), but wonder if they still could test positive later even if this test doesn't. Would it be safe to just wait the two weeks just in case or should they get tested again later? I saw an article once that stated someone was tested, but received a negative, and later tested positive a day or two later. So not enough of the virus had accumulated yet/present where the test was done or it was a false negative. My friends are real good about wearing masks and being cautious, but I want to make an informed decision about this. What is the latest information everyone has heard?

Well, yeah. And I agree we are not a healthy bunch overall, but when it comes to the overall health of someone, many underlying conditions are pretty benign, especially in reference to the development of Covid-19.
Oh!... Perhaps this virus triggers the onset of a condition that would not have otherwise manifested had it not been for the immune response?......Now that would be an interesting study!
For example. It has been shown that there are those who have a predisposition to schizophrenia. But it takes something for it to manifest. If not for that "trigger", they wouldn't have developed it. The example of the trigger I'm referencing is the use of marijuana in the developing brain. If you would like to watch the documentary series that includes this information. It's called "Predict my Future : The Science of Us." A documentary series surrounding the Dunedin Study based in New Zealand. Super interesting.

Yes....yes we are... :disappointed:

Maybe I'm just being too picky on what type and how the information "should" be presented. Like I've said before, I've studied and researched the immune system and auto-immune disorders so much and really do have a passion for pathology. I guess I just have to let "the experts" catch up with my own theories of disease and their manifestations...;)

The only thing I've heard was that in people who are symptomatic, the BEST time to get tested is when there is a fever. But of course, not everyone gets a fever and not everyone even develops symptoms and have tested positive so....who knows.
And you're right that some have been tested and then get tested a few days later, getting the positive result on the second test only. But that goes the other way too...some have gotten false positives.
There is also the risk of asymptomatic carriers.
Sorry I'm not much help...I would just wait the 14 days. It's a good rule of thumb to follow in any case.
How long has it been since THEY were exposed?

Thank you for your input. She didn't say, but I was thinking of asking her so it will help me make an informed decision.
Yeah, I would ask.
Overall, I would wait the 14 days from their exposure, not necessarily 14 days after testing, especially if the test comes back negative....But again it does depend on how long between their exposure and the test, as the test may not be accurate if done too early.

I do not think we know the full apparatus of this Virus, yet.. It is a very strange virus.. According to my journal readings, it seems to target the clotting mechanism of the blood, causing little tiny hemorrhages; resulting in strokes and dead tissue.. This is why there are so many varied sigh of the disease.

I think my theory. FWIW, is if we can find some way to manipulate the M-RNA of the virus, Yes, Gene Therapy, to stop the attacking; This would be life changing..
Or finding some medication to stop the ability of the virus to attack the clotting factors...

This is why they are urging people to not take NSAIDS, if they feel sick. Increasing clotting time.

I think I saw somewhere that people with type O blood are less effective, as are people on certain medications.. I wonder about that. There are so many things we do not know about this...and I wonder how much the researchers are discovering, which is not filtering its way back to us... as of yet....

There has to be some type of 'glitch' is peoples autoimmune system, for the virus to somehow take hold; producing the severe cases. I wonder if the 'glitch' is gene related? So many unanswered questions..........
~~~~~~~~~~
Also, they are now promoting that fabric masks may not provide the best protection.. The masks need to be 3 layers; or 2 layers with a filter, in order to work effectively..
The blood type theory on immunity is very complex. There are 8 main blood types A+, A-, B+,B-, AB+, AB-, O+, O-, but there are 35 different Blood Groups.
As for resistance to this virus, studies showed during SARS, that blood types containing anti-A antibodies were able to resist the attachment of the virus to the cells which would eliminate the ability for the virus to replicate. And because SARS Cov-2, has a similar protein makeup, that same link is being made.
It has also been studied that A blood types are in general, more prone to inflammatory diseases and more prone to have immune system issues.
I couldn't find any definitive info on B blood types, it seems they are not more or less at risk. But who knows, it could just be because B blood types are rarer (than O and A) and so the pool for study isn't great.
There has to be some type of 'glitch' is peoples autoimmune system, for the virus to somehow take hold; producing the severe cases. I wonder if the 'glitch' is gene related? So many unanswered questions..........
I wrote about this before, but look up Th1 and Th2 Dominance. It's when the immune system is out of balance...this really helps explain how the reactive immune system plays a role on the body. Basically a chronically, either Th1 or Th2 dominant immune system leads to auto-immune disease. The issue with this though is that the scales can tip either way or someone can be dominant in both, and it can change throughout someone's life. Some of it is genes I think, as there is a test that can pick up on if someone has the markers for auto-immune disease. But a lot of it is lifestyle.
For those who have gone to a dentist during the pandemic how did it go? I think I really need to get to a dentist (once I find some money and all). I sat up with more pain last night. Brainwaves and sipping on water helped but that's only going to last so long especially when I have an elderly mother and these cats to take care of. What precautions did you and the dentist use? I'm more scared of contracting something at the dentist office then suffering from this pain to be honest.
Husband and both sons have gone recently. Mask wearing and lots of hand washing were going on. For both dentist and patients.
