Not sure where to start, so I'm just gonna jump right in.
I'm taking a roadtrip to Virginia really soon, like the first week of August soon and I'm hella anxious. My chest has been tightening up and my mind has been foggy. My fiancé isn't grasping how big of a deal this is, I'm trying to prepare and when I do, anxiety sets right in.
There's so many things contributing to this. I have yet to tell my mom and I'm afraid of how she's gonna react because of the whole covid 19 situation even though I'm gonna take precautions.
I'm in an interracial relationship and the states that my fiancé and I are gonna be passing through aren't too friendly to that idea still ( if you're from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia or South Carolina PLEASE correct me. I want to be wrong in this case 😰)
I use to have real bad highway nervousness, which has calmed down alittle bit, but I have a feeling it's gonna get triggered again since we're going through unknown territory.

I'm afraid for our safety. I don't want anything happening to us. If anyone lives in any of the states I'm passing through, please lemme know what the environment is like for an interracial couple ( black female dating white male)

I'm not from the USA so I can't comment much about the states. But I have an on-and-off case of agoraphobia. I very much recommend listening to comedy on the road. Comedy podcasts, maybe stand-up audios... I find that helps much more than music and it's changing mood for the better. Don't forget to grab some good food like maybe muffins for the road. And take lots of pictures. That has been a good motivation for me as well. Taking cool pics on the road and sharing them somewhere like Instagram.

I hope you have a wonderful trip 💚

I'm also not from the USA, so also can't comment on the situation in those states, but since you're so anxious about the trip, can it be postponed till maybe next year, or when things are better with the pandemic. It won't really solve your concern about your safety as an interracial couple, but at least you won't have the added worries about getting sick on top of those concerns. 🤗

I am from the U.S. but I don't live in the south so I am not going to be much help. I personally don't think that you are going to be any more likely to have issues in the south then in other parts of the country. I personally think that you're chances of running into a situation like portrayed in Mississippi Burning is very very small. You are just driving through those states so you aren't going to be in those types of back roads communities where something like that could happen if it were still a possibility. I think the South is like other parts of the country. Here in Columbus which is the largest metro area in Ohio an interracial couple doesn't even register with most people because it has become very common place. Some rural areas and small towns there may be some stares but I think that would be the extent of it. I really think that you will be fine.

I am from the USA...deep south, below Macon, GA. It really depends on the areas in which you go through and how...redneck-y/backwards they are. Down where I am, a decent sized town, I wouldn't see you having issues. It's when you get into the super isolated little podunk towns that you *may* receive some looks but I highly doubt that would even happen. Most people will bite their tongues and keep their (wrong) ideologies to themselves. I imagine that you will be on interstate most of the way anyway, so try not to fret and enjoy time with your fiancé. :)

I feel your situation. My roommate in college (white girl) went to New Orleans with three of our black male friends for Spring Break one year. They made her drive the car through Mississippi and Alabama...

I wish I could, but I'm actually going to be picking up a kitten in Virgina, that's the whole reason for our roadtrip. I'm trying to look at the bright side and say, "I'll have a comfort buddy on the way home".
It's just all happening so fast 😬

Oh, so you're heading there for a GREAT reason. Be sure to post pics of the kitten once you're back home. And, of course, also let us know how the road trip went. Good luck. :heartshape:

Actually there's been a change in plans.
I am no longer taking a roadtrip, it's way too risky at the moment with covid 19 going on (since Texas is a hotspot along with a couple other states that I would've been travelling to) and I could be in quarantine for a while. Which is time that neither me or my fiancé have.
Plus I told my mom and she sorta flipped out, basically worried that I'm gonna die 🤷‍♀️ and it just confirmed my thoughts how ill prepared we were for said trip...

So I had to figure out another plan to get my new baby from Virginia and I was able to get him "shipped" to me :D it comes with a fee of $600, but I'd rather be in my home state waiting for him then going through unknown places with many possibilities of something going wrong and we'll be totally screwed.

Eh, you probably would have ended up spending $600 on gas, restaurant food, and hotels, plus your time and health/safety factors, so that's a bargain really!

Since you were so apprehensive about the trip, I'm glad you found an alternative method of getting the kitten. How exactly is he being "shipped" though?

Pet courier :) I'm not sure of the proper term is lol.

Ya, we really didn't have the money for a roadtrip anyway, my fiancé thinks we can just go on about $300. Nope. He thinks it's simple 🤦🏾‍♀️ and we can pay half now and half the day the courier heads out. We already paid the first half.

Is the courier by plane or car? I have seen companies that will make a caravan across states driving pets to people. I think it's safer too because not all airlines care for animals the way they should.

I hope it's not by plane, especially if it's in cargo hold. I know they do have people who drive animals to other states (the rescue I volunteer at is involved in an organization that transports dogs). Question, though, are there no kittens where you live you could rescue? In any case, will look forward to seeing pictures of your new baby.

I think both? She's trusted by the breeder/ cattery runner. All I know is that I'm meeting her at the airport ❤

You can get pretty much everything delivered now, I guess. Looking forward to reading about the new kitten once he/she is "delivered". :catlove:
I can't wait til the 2nd week of August, that's when he'll be arriving. I wanna hold my baby boy so bad 🥺

Of course there is, heck the HSNT is having $10 cat adoption 6 months and older 🙃 (like wow, now y'all say something 😭) I would love to take home another baby (although I don't think my fiancé would be too eager for the idea at the moment). But this one has been a thing since late April. Plus I have to keep him in quarantine for a couple of weeks as the contract says.

You won't hear anything from me. I have no issues whatsoever with reputable breeders. What breed is he? We definitely want to see pictures after you get him and he is settled in.
