I was adjusting my Chewy autoship and decided to peruse the canned cat food offerings in case there was something new that Sylvie might be able to eat and enjoy. I noticed a new brand called Freely, which offers canned rabbit as well as turkey and salmon. All are grain-free, single-protein formulas. The rabbit ingredient list looks pretty good to me; I don't love the peas, but better whole peas than pea protein, IMO:

Deboned Rabbit, Vegetable Broth, Peas, Natural Flavor, Agar-Agar, Sunflower Oil, Choline Chloride, Taurine, Salt, Vitamins (Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement,), Inulin (Chicory Root), Potassium Chloride, Salmon Oil (Preserved With Mixed Tocopherols), Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Sodium Selenite Manganese Proteinate, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide), Magnesium Proteinate, Calcium Carbonate

There are no reviews for any of the Freely canned cat foods and only one (a very positive one) for the turkey dry food, so I gather that this is a very new brand. Has anyone here tried any of these yet?

I see it IS really new. The only objection I have to it is the use of Vegetable Broth (and the peas, of course), but I do agree that I'd rather see peas than pea flour or however they usually term it.

Did you order some? If so, let us know what you think after you've opened up a can or two.

Given the lack of reviews and the newness of the product, I was too nervous to order a case of it right now. Instead I ordered a case of Rawz rabbit pate (from Bernal Beast, since my usual supplier, Cherrybrook, was out of stock) and added a case of smaller cans of Freely rabbit to my Chewy autoship, which will ship in mid-August. By then there should be more feedback on it, I hope. I'll let you know what Sylvie and I think then!

I got some of the rabbit pate.....
They were not diving into it like it was yummy. The pate is kind of dry. I will add water to it next time.

My crew is very choosy and.... well they change their mind alot !

Beyond the peas and vegetable broth (why vegetable broth anyway, that's so weird!), I'd avoid this because of the agar-agar, which neither of our cats can tolerate. Problems with agar-agar are apparently fairly rare but it made both our cats vomit.

One food in our rotation, Redbarn Naturals Lamb Pate, has agar-agar among the ingredients, and fortunately Sylvie seems fine with it, so that's not a deal breaker for me.

My best guess is that it's because rabbit broth isn't really a thing, and they wanted to preserve the single-protein status of each variety, so they added vegetable broth instead of chicken, beef, or turkey broth. Their turkey pate does contain turkey broth rather than vegetable broth, so that supports my theory. :)

It's weird, it's about the only thing that makes Ireland (our lynx point) barf! Edwina is quite the opposite.

Yes, that's good logic!

I got this and my cat loves it. She is allergic to all poultry, fish and beef. She now has kidney failure and is at the stage where I have to rotate her foods more to get her to eat. She typically eats Nature's Variety Instinct Venison and Rabbit. I've tried several limited ingredient rabbit canned foods but she doesn't like them. This one she ate up. I don't think the pate was too try at all. I'm just happy to have another option to put in her rotation.

That's good to hear! We'll give it a try with our next Chewy order.

I may be placing it sooner than planned, since my Bernal Beast order for Rawz rabbit still hasn't been shipped, per UPS tracking, and their website is shut down. I emailed them last night to request that they cancel the order and issue a full refund, and am awaiting a response.

Update: I went ahead and ordered the Freely rabbit (12 of the small cans) and have been feeding it to Sylvie for her dinner for the past few days. I'm happy to report that she likes it and eats every bit of it in her dish.

lisahe lisahe , I was just looking at the ingredients in Rawz rabbit, and guess what? The second ingredient (after "Rabbit") is vegetable broth! How did I not notice that before? :)

I'm always happy to find good new options in proteins Sylvie can tolerate!
