millamokus millamokus silly Tokyo <3 cats sure do love plants, don't they? Is Tokyo still a kitten? Very cute!

Nice plants! I'll be very excited when you are able to share your cactus pictures! How big are they now? Did you grow from seeds or start with a small plant?

Succulents received a tiny drizzle. Now moved but still outside where the rain shouldn't get them.

she isn't very interested in eating plants, but she eats the soil with great passion. she digs into the ground like a wolf in a piece of meat. such a weirdo  Of course, I don't allow her to do this, and she never did this before, she just sniffed, I told “stop!!” and she walked away from the pot. but now for some reason she runs up and begins to eat as insane without even sniffing. oh cats...) Tokyo is 2 months old now, so i hope we will get over it :^)

thank you <з i have cactuses since late winter 2018, bought them when they were 3-5 cm. when i saw them last time (in feb i suppose) my long and thin cactus (Blue Columnar Cactus (Pilosocereus pachycladus)) was more than 15 cm, other two are round (Barrel Cactus (Ferocactus) and Pincushion Cactus (Mammillaria)) and grow in width, only noticed that they were much bigger haha. (not sure about types, just googled :dizzy:..)
some old pics of my tiny cactuses (only two of them, third is in the background on second pic) :rolleyes2:

The being simple is why I am trying succulents and air plants. I am a chronic overwaterer though so I don't know if the succulents will survive. I am resisting the urge to water. Everything I have read says to wait until the soil is very dry then thoroughly water. That thoroughly water part may get me, that can mean different things to different people. I got potting soil for cactus and palms and mixed more perlite into it. I also have them in containers with drainage holes so we will see. From what I read the thorough watering is to encourage the roots to grow down.

I didn't buy this one this time. My mom got it for me. It was $3.99 at the grocery store. It's a dracaena marginata. It's roughly 16.5 inches tall from its base.

Air plants have shipped and should be arriving tomorrow or day after that. Crocheting something... not sure how it will turn out. Was supposed to be a basket but I've never done this before in my life so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

That Dracena is purty as a picture!

The more light, the better, and let dry (but not too much) between waterings. I have them in my law office and they're tricky to keep happy, but so worth it.

Bet you've got some glorious yama yuri near you, though
Yes, we do! They're not in bloom yet, but the stalks are all coming up. I'll take some pictures when they flower.

Beautiful! That has such a nice red colour on the edges of the leaves.
my little Yucca.. nice job, Tokyo!
Oh, her little face!

"Mom, the plant fell over. I didn't touch it, honest!"
:dancingblackcat:
I can't have large potted plants indoors because my cats think the pots are novelty litter boxes.

Thank you! Yes, and they are very easy for me to care for, which is very appealing to me, haha. Just like denice denice , I have a history with over watering, too... Succulents have been the first plants that are doing well and have stayed alive for me.

Your older pictures of your cacti are beautiful! Thanks for sharing. My kittens were very playful and investigative and seem to be less so at almost a year old. They are not allowed around plants, but I wonder if they would do better now. They used to pluck the succulents out of the soil and drop them. And Katrina will try to dig out the dirt, too. Silly Tokyo! Maybe Tokyo will calm with age, too. At two months everything is still very new and exciting.

Graceful-Lily Graceful-Lily Nice find on the plant! That sounds like a steal. And love that yarn that changes color. The air plant hanger you're making looks good so far!

LTS3 LTS3 Look at how much the cat grass grew! Leroy is going to be excited <3

Covidly awaiting the yama-yuri pictures.

They're so grandly glorious! One of my friends in youth was an old guy who grew lilies as a hobby and infected me. He even had a Japanese lily grower over to visit, who gave me about a dozen little bulbs, which I planted and they grew, oh yeah. Mom gloried in the perfume, dad and baby brother pretended to be indifferent, but were agog too. Alas, they don't last in Ohio.

So, show us.

My air plants have been growing like crazy. The nursery I got them from said not to mist them but to soak the top half twice a week for 5 to 10 minutes. She said that if water gets down in the center and sits which she calls the crown they will rot.

My air plants came! They are way smaller than I expected but they look healthy. Just a but beat up from the trip. I'm not liking the display I was designing anymore so I decided to scrap it. I'll find another way to display them.

Those look like Tillandsias of various types. If I recall, one species of Tillandsia is called "Spanish Moss" even though it's neither Spanish (it's American) and not even close to a moss. Many of my friends in the palm society have them growing on their palm trunks outdoors.

Let us know how they grow!

Hmm, the darkness at the base of the tall one makes me suspicious. But maybe it's supposed to be that color; I haven't had any experience with that type.

I've had a terrible history with air plants, no matter what I do they have all died. But my current batch is in the bathroom, and seems to be doing ok in there. I lightly mist them (not enough for droplets to run into the crown) once a week or so, and the natural humidity of a bathroom seems to help too.

I snitched a few wild air plants off palm trees when I went to Florida (I tried to mostly get the ones that were knocked off the trees by wind/the gardeners), but none of them lasted long here. I think humidity might be the key.

Did you use tape water? And yes, the brown also made me raise an eyebrow but it isn't mushy or anything. I've placed the bottom in water and it's going up the length of the foliage.

Here’s some pictures of Dracena marginata growing in my office, mostly happily.

The plant on top is about three feet away from me as I'm typing this. The trio below are in another office.

The one on the very bottom suffered some neglect after we terminated our plant service, but under the devoted care of our office assistant and me, it's starting to come back.

They get florescent lighting for about 12 hours a day, plus a bit of light through the windows, though the windows have sunblock on them. In a house, I strongly recommend keeping them near an un-curtained window or under florescent lights. Most houses are much too dark, so be careful.

I read that for air plants tap water shouldn't be used because of the chlorine. I set out a bowl of water the day before I soak them then use that.

I filled a spray bottle but now I don't remember if it was tap water or bottled water. Anyway if it was tap water it has sat long enough for the chlorine to dissipate.

I have a bonsai-ish "ponytail palm" at work, kind of looks like those Dracaenas. Yes, he wears lights all year long. He's festive!
