Hi everyone ! I have a one year old cat who’s pregnant 8 weeks in , this morning this came out of her she cleaned it but couldnt get it off so i helped . Am i right to assume its her mucus plug ? Its her first pregnancy and i have been patiently waiting kinda worried hoping it all goes ok. She still has her appetite and frequently asks for treats so im not exactly sure when to expect her going into labor

It is, they usually clean themselves and you don't even see it. Labour is usually coming 24-48 hours afterwards, though it could be a little longer. When she is in active labour, contractions seen, don't let her go much longer than an hour before contacting a vet. The first kitten will be born and the others will follow, between 15 minutes and an hour in between. Mama should stimulate them by licking and will eat the placentas, if not have a warm wet washcloth handy to wipe the sac from their face and stimulate them to breathe. All the luck!

Thanks! I have been keeping a look out as im just as worried! Hoping everything goes well without the need for a vet, we’ve been there so i know she’s having 3 kittens and hoping she licks and chews on their cords since She doesnt handle chewing on “big” stuff usually. It is her first litter so hope the maternal instincts kick in ! <3

The mucus plug can be lost up to a week before labor and delivery. She may have a few days to go yet. :)

Update : Hi everyone ! we have 5 adorable kittens instead of 3!!! This princess is tired . 3 came out first then the 2 surprise ones after a while since i was told by the vet there’s only 3 . One thing though is she’s covered in blood , do i need to give her a shower soon-ish or does she get around cleaning herself throughly ? Also how do i change the dirty rags under them 🥺❤

She will clean herself eventually. You can wipe her down with a warm damp cloth in the meantime if you want, but no bath right now.

Get the clean bedding ready, then move the babies onto it. This will cause mom to get up. Then quickly remove the soiled bedding, and quickly but gently move the fresh bedding into place with kittens on top. Mom will get back in with her kittens. :)

i noticed her going in her crib alone to lay down so i took advantage and moved the kittens to clean the bedding (not sure if she wanted some resting alone time ) she didnt seem to mind and i was scared they would get cold without their mama! Been feeding her kitten wet food as much as she likes but i’ve noticed she hasent used the bathroom since giving birth, she also seems to be breathing quite rapidly since, should i be worried 🥺

Good you were able to switch the bedding, and yes, moms do take breaks! :)

Nursing is hard work and draws on her calcium reserves, which if depleted can cause seizures. Panting is a sign of stress, so give her a dish of kitten formula to drink daily. If she won’t drink it, give scrambled eggs, cheese, or full fat yogurt. Or crush an eggshell into fine pieces and mix a sprinkle into her wet food daily. It’s pure calcium!

She will pee and poop eventually!

Awww thank you for the advise , i fed her a bit of yogurt unfortunately the kitten formula i have ordered has not arrived yet hence im glad she’s eating to keep her milk flowing , she also only just peed so i guess she’ll evetually get around to number 2 , till the kitten formula gets here i have washed an eggshell and left it to dry so i can grind that ❤ Will insert a video of her as you can see breathing pretty fast and also panting , hopefully my baby feels better soon 😭🥰

It is possible that you saw a flea. In my experience, black things crawling on cats usually are :ohwell: Maybe Mama had a couple of fleas that went unnoticed.

There aren't safe OTC flea treatments for newborn or young kittens, but fleas are especially problematic on such small bodies. The following article explains how to treat fleas in young kittens, but do check the kittens thoroughly to be sure before taking any action.

Hi again everyone , so i managed to get ahold of a vet that gave mama flea serum that deals with the eggs as well , he hopefully said the fleas on the kittens will end up getting on mom and dying as for them id have to wait at least 2 weeks to give them anything. They all seem to be doing fine havent noticed anymore fleas ;fingerscrossed; and mama seems to be quite itchy and eliminating the dead bugs.
So yesterday i noticed a one of her tits is a little red tipped and a little pointed outwards (personaly im a new first time cat mom and im not sure whats normal and whats not so please bare with me ) I do tend to get worried easily so after searching online it almost got me worried about mastitis and all its complications and if theres anything wrong i would like her to be treated quickly . Will attach a photo so if anyone is familiar with early signs and might help me determine whether or not to take her to the vet again .
Again please bare with me as i might be overworrying cause as i also read she is a white cat who might have sensitive skin as it is her first litter
Sorry for the long post , lots of love for everyone ❤

Her nipple looks well used and chapped, so you’ll need to apply coconut oil on a regular basis to moisturize it. A chapped nipple can feel very sore when suckled and can crack and bleed, so treatment is essential. It’s not mastitis though! :)

P.S. Apply to all nipples to prevent further chapping, and the coconut oil is non-toxic to kittens.

Hello, how's mama and babies doing?
Hope they are all doing well. I guess their eyes are widely open now and are gorgeously cute!! 😊
Just how do you tell them apart with them being all beautifully white.
