It is great to have Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 back! Minus , well aged, ketchup. I wonder if it is like wine, improves with age?:barfgreen:
We will just have to wonder. I am NOT brave (or foolish) enough to test it! It has gone to the trash!

The fireworks have started, and Hekitty is BEHIND me in my chair! At some point, when I'm caught up here, I'll shift her to my lap, under the throw. OH MY POOR, POOR FERALS! I know they're hiding deep in the woods, panicked.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 The fireworks started here yesterday. All firework show have been cancelled around here so the amount being set off seems greater. It started in broad daylight today. They barely made a flash in the daylight. They are not legal here but ......People drive over the state line and buy the big stuff. These cats are hiding too. I know they may still associate the noise with gunfire. Especially Flowers. I expect to be trying to hold them all at bedtime. I need more of me to go around! I bought some catnip so I’m going to see if that helps.

The fireworks are going off almost continously, but our crew is taking it in stride. Stretch is in his usual perch about 3 feet from me, Burdock and Miss Eleanor are on the couch, Digger is in one of the cat trees, and Bashful is in another, while Prancer is upstairs in yet another cat tree-in other words, a normal evening.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 I just wanted to tell you of something I have noticed with the more feral cats. When they were outside during a night of fireworks, I sometimes sat out with them. They were nervous but had their favorite hiding places and seemed to feel pretty secure there. Now that those same cats are inside, they seem more disturbed by the noise as it penetrates the house. Especially if I have a window open. I think they expect the sounds to be more intense outside. When it happens in the house, some don’t seem affected but others seem more concerned that when they were outside. Ferals outside are always prepared. :hugs:

N NY cat man That’s great that the kitties are all calm. Is it just their purrsonslitirs or is your house really well insulated? It sounds like a war going on here. Cannon fire! These kitties won’t go into the cat room without me. That room is probably less insulated to noise. I have the TV on for some and music going for others.

Furballsmom Furballsmom I hope Poppy is okay. A calming product is a good idea.

I hear some noises, but they aren't too bad. The thunder the other week was louder. Sparkle's scared of loud noises, but she hasn't been hiding all night.

Lelia, the normally skittish one has never seemed fazed by fireworks. Or the vacuum. She's a weirdo.

Furballsmom Furballsmom Good Poppy! :purr:

Lari Lari I’m glad the noises aren’t too bad for Sparkle. I used to have one baby who was terrified of storms. I finally put her in the bed with me and held her close through a very long thunderstorm. Somehow that meant something to her and she wasn’t as scared after that. :dunno: I had held her during storms before but I guess it took being held all the way through a bad one.

Lelia! You are a very brave kitty! Can you teach these kitties that the vacuum is not a monster? Every time it sucks up a furry dust bunny they run! I think Whistle likes to see it eat dust bunnies but he still won’t get very close.

Hmmmm. I took a head count. Goldie, Blue and Mountain are in the closet. They came out as long as I am sitting here.

The Bengal boys are enjoying some boxes I put in their room but don’t seem too nervous.

Mama just wants petting but is in a spot that is in the middle of the house and fairly insulated from sound.

Mackie has retreated to the bed.

Precious is asleep inside one of the cages in the living room.

The girls room looks kind of deserted. Liberty, Callie and Alley are inside Rubbermaid type bins although one is clear and not much of a hiding place. Lol Tortuga is laying on the vanity and Wanda Heart ran out from under the bed to greet me. All came out to join me.

The cat room?

Ack! My photos aren’t showing up!
Let’s try again. Lol Ahhh! I hit that little gear shaped icon. :flail: Mystery solved!

The cat room? Looks deserted. Kitties?

Flowers! Are you scared? It’s okay.

The kitties came out to the cat room with Mom.

When I stepped outside to take a look, they weren’t confident in my actions. Some demonstrated that by turning their backs to the door.

 Good girl Smokey! Some cats just don’t get nervous.

The moon is beautiful tonight. That’s the only light show I need. Have a great night everyone and to all kitties, trust Smokey! :heartshape::catlove:

I had a new orchid open! It’s fairly dark where I had it protected from the sun but I grabbed a quick pic anyway.
I took the liberty to make adjustments for your photo as to do justice to it.

Beautiful bloom!

These are some of Michele's lilies.
Lovely blooms and nice shot!

tabbytom tabbytom Great editing. You kept the colors on point but made the exposure bright. I love the lighting in the background too. I’ll try to get one with better focus. Lol I have to keep it in the shade to avoid sunburn and to make sure the flowers don’t twist to meet the light if I move it, but if I get time before the day runs out, I’ll try again. Maybe the other buds will be open. I do like the positioning of the leaf with the flower. Very nice! Thank you. Big improvement.:yess:

Some photos can be saved and some just too difficult to save them especially the backlit ones.

Yes, they are, and they are voracious eaters. A couple of her plants have had almost half of their leaves chewed off, and it happened practically overnight. Those nasty bugs are also known as red lily beetles or red lily eating beetles.
Lily beetles are a pain for sure. A friend of mine was just showing me their garden the other day, and they were shocked to find lily buds that were about ready to open the day before were totally gone. It looked like something had chomped them right off, but it was probably the lily beetles.

N NY cat man I looked up the scarlet beetles. Wow! They really are red! Beautiful for a beetle but they have very healthy appetites!

No worries rubysmama rubysmama No pictures of them. ;) They aren’t as cute as a Lady bug.
Yeah, Lady Bugs are cute. 🐞 When I was a kid, we thought if you counted the dots on their back it would tell you how old they were. :)

There's some new impostor Lady Bugs though that have started showing up. :(
Yes, There Are Actually ‘Bad’ Ladybugs—Here's What To Do About Them

Hope all the US kitties survived last night's fireworks. Here in Canada our fireworks were Wed (Jul 1) and though there were a few loud ones around me, Ruby took it all in stride.

I think it's a combination of the two, plus they see us going about our business as usual, so maybe they take their cues from that.

I did end up finding Sparkle in my closet last night, but she was more than happy to come out for dinner, so it must not have been too bad!

Lol, Lelia hasn't even taught Sparkle the vacuum's not to fear. I don't know if she can help anyone else.

tabbytom tabbytom Back lighting is a challenge in every way but can be especially pretty in the right shot.
I remember when I was little that I was told to always have the sun pointing at people when I took their picture. Lol Lots of squinting eyes in those old photos! I learned how to take pictures with an old box camera. It had belonged to my Dad when he was a child. Black and white film was all a kid could afford and that meant saving up. Getting it developed meant saving up again. I still have those squinting photos.

rubysmama rubysmama Yikes! I wonder if my lily buds will be there tomorrow?!?!?
Bad Lady bugs? I have seen similar beetle types. I just hope nothing eats in Sarah’s garden. I guess everything has to eat though.

I’m glad Ruby didn’t mind the fireworks. A belated Happy 1st Of July!

N NY cat man I am sure you are right and seeing you going about as usual must help. If we are not stressed, the kitties are always calmer. Our noise continued today but it rained this afternoon so.... lol.

Lari Lari Sparkle is smart! A nice safe closet is always a good place to relax. It sounds like she did as the ferals here used to do, find a nice spot and curl up until supper. Lol

Lelia is teaching by example but maybe Sparkle isn’t going to watch when the monster vacuum is roaming about. Lol Quite a few here vacate the area until the monster stops roaring.

I had to run errands today and rain was predicted. I got home just in time to grab a photo of the orchid with all three flowers open and the sun was still out. I am back to clearing out storage on my phone again too! Aaargh. I did get a couple of smiles tonight though.

The flowers are not cooperating. Lol They are pointing in three different directions! So much for “not moving the plant so the flowers don’t twist around!”

When it started raining I opened the front door for the wonderful fresh air. I also put the baby gate up. The kitties don’t like the baby gate.

Why put up the baby gate? To keep kitties from reaching the screen, of course!

That is why some photographer carry a diffuser around to soften the light but if its a group shot then squinting eyes is in the package. Else have the sun behind them and use a good flash to compensate for the undef exposure while shooting against the sun.

You can do this to your orchid shots too.
The flowers are not cooperating. Lol They are pointing in three different directions! So much for “not moving the plant so the flowers don’t twist around!”
Well well, you got the lighting good this time and they are lovely! Good shot!
