Will say shame the dog might have a chicken allery. I my self am a raw meat feeder. My turkish angora grow up with it and having made the switch my other cats loved it too. You can also try beef just not pork as that is not all to healthy for cats. It is also easy as you can leave some meat from your meal for the cat and or dog, they are carnivores after all. Before I go will give you this the animals I know that eat raw foods have less stinky waste too so helps with cleaning up after them.
I often pull some beef (hamburger) out of the pan before I season it for my dog as a little treat. Although I am worried to do that with Winnie - being so finicky, I don't want her to get hooked on human food!

Winnie had a pretty successful day in terms of eating! She ate about 3/4 a can of American Journey that was left on the nightstand sometime between 1AM - 8AM, that probably had 2 teaspoons of Elseys dry, and then we opened up a can of Purina Pro Plan Kitten in Salmon/Tuna. I mixed in about 2 teaspoons of Elseys dry in that. She ate that throughout the day, almost finishing the can up. I did need to heat it up eat time and sprinkle crumbled bonito on it, but at least she ate. There was probably 1oz left by 11pm and she seemed tired of it so I opened up Tiny Tiger Turkey & Giblets in Extra Gravy, a new one (usually just did the pates), and put that on top.

This is the first day in a LONG time, that I ONLY opened 2 cans of food, and didn't dump ANY down the drain(yet). :hyper:

She also did something new... we moved to the kitchen table today, because she is now too big to eat comfy on the end table lol. I have to keep her up high or Missy wants to come gobble everything up. Anyway, so I decided to sit her on the table and open the can beside her, and when she got a whiff of it she immediately started rubbing on my arm and purring. She was actually excited for the first time about something to eat! She ate a bit more than normal of that, about 1.5oz. The rest will have some dry mixed in and moved to the nightstand for her over-night eating.

Wysong sends a lot of samples for the $2.50 shipping charge! I was surpsied!

Winnie seemed to really like the quail 'dream treat'. She ate some of it immediately, and kept taking pieces I broke off. Then she ate a few kibbles of the Epigen 90.

I'm not sure the kibble eating means much... she did that with Dr Elseys salmon too, and would never eat it alone again lol.

I haven't tried Instinct because it is very expensive and I don't like how high peas are on the ingredient list, but I may give it a go. Still on the fence with that one! Maybe as a treat if she really likes it. Certainly couldn't feed it daily.

I've tried several Weruva flavors over the past few days and Winnie really likes the Cats in the Kitchen line. She REALLY liked the Fowl Ball and it wasn't even pate! It had big shreds of chicken. She loved that one. But my gosh, are they LOW in calories for the price!

I have a question about catfooddb. Are they ever wrong? They list Whole Earth Farms Kitten as 27% carbs which I thought was REALLY high... but I calculated it myself and only get around 13-14? Still high but a lot lower. I could certainly be doing the calculations wrong because I don't really know how to do it lol.

CatfoodDB Link

But I came up with:

Moisture is 78%. So, 100 - 78 = 22.

Convert to .22, and divide as fed %

Protein 9% / .22 = 40.9 (41%) dry matter
Fat 4% / .22 = 18.1% (18%) dry matter
Fiber 3% / .22 = 13.6 (14%) dry matter
Ash 3% / .22 = 13.6 (14%) dry matter

100 - 41 - 18 - 14 - 14 = 13% left, which would be the carb amount?
If that is true I would like to add this back into rotation because it's got no fish, no unneeded veggies, no carrageenan, no potato starch, she likes it and it's very affordable.
The link you provided is calculating carbs as a percentage of calories, not as a percentage of the weight of food (which is what you're calculating). The former is a better measure of the percentage of protein/fat/carbs in food because, for example, fat is denser in calories than protein and carbs, so while it may seem that there is just as much fat in a product as there is protein based on weight, fat is actually twice as dense in calories and will make up double the amount of calories that your cat receives, over the protein.

Basically the point is that you want to know the values as a percentage of calories, not weight. So the link you provided is more informative in my opinion.

I was looking at that a bit more the other day and I noticed that CatfoodDB doesn't have an accurate ash % listed on that food (and some others I have looked at), which, if you were to exclude that from the "recipe", you'd get the number they get. They list it as 0%, so the remainder is 27-28%, which is what they list at the carbs. On the analysis provided by chewy, petsmart, petco and others, they list 3% ash. Now, the official website, does not list the ash %.

Are you supposed to exclude ash % from the calculations?

You don't need the ash% to determine the amount of calories from protein, fat, and carbs. They aren't calculating it based on weight.

Winnie had her last set of shots today. I hate these days, because she gets soooo lethargic! Thankfully I got her to eat a little bit when we got home, the trusty Tiny Tiger, because I know shes probably not going to for the next 18hrs or so. So happy this is the last set.

She was 4.2lbs. She was 3.4lbs 3 weeks ago, so some weight gain. I asked the dr about her eating habits, but he said that her body condition looked great, so she is eating enough regardless, I guess. It seems she is going to be a pretty small thing, and completely self regulates her food intake. I asked to purchase the flea med they gave me last time so I could have some more, and they just had to give me another sample, because they don't actually sell the 2-5lb dose as most of their cat patients are big enough for the regular stuff by now! At least it was a free of charge

I scheduled her spay for the 13th of July. Ahhh! Something else to stress over! I've spayed all of my dogs and it was always so stressful and never complication free. Not looking forward to it. I also haven't spayed an animal this young before - I let Missy grow a lot as there was a lot of opinion out there that allowing a large breed dog to grow before spaying was beneficial to their bones. Her incision was leaking and swollen and she had horrible diarrhea from the anesthesia, which progressed into blood from all the irritation...so that was my last experience with spaying. :bawling2:

Good vibes for the spay. At least it is a month away🤗
Thank you! I hope it all goes smoothly!

So Winnie actually is doing really well. Usually, after shots, she will sleep for the entire day remaining, night, and morning. Won't eat or anything. Well, it's been several hours since shots and she is actually up and around. Playing quite a bit. We were trying to untangle a rope in the living room...so she was in rope-heaven for a while. Not really eating, but that was expected.

I contacted Whole Earth Farms and asked about their carb % in their food, for what it's worth:

Thank you for reaching out to us. The carb percent you asked for is below. Thank you and have a great day!

3.00% AF
12.97% DM
So.. I am still in thinking that perhaps CatFoodDB is using outdated info.
Either way, she has decided she doesn't like this food now, so it's irrelevant for me, but maybe if someone else comes looking!

Rawz sent SO many samples!! WOW!! two bags of dry, 3 5.5oz cans, 2 3oz cans, and 2 pouch thingies. I can't believe how much they sent!

I opened the rabbit for her and she chowed down. :cheerleader:
The other half of the plate has some fancy feast, the brown part shes eating was the rabbit.

I woke up to a completely licked clean ‘overnight’ plate. It was an entirely fresh can of tiny tiger turkey pate, so 3oz. And about a tablespoon of dry food mixed up. That’s the first time she’s eaten it all! She had a really good eating day yesterday!

Oh boy, Winnie totally snubbed the Rawz Turkey. I was surprised, because turkey is usually a safe flavor! She would not even taste it. Insta air-bury.
In other news, in addition to eating a whole 3oz can+dry overnight, she finished ANOTHER 3oz can today. I think that's the most she's eaten, ever. Go Winnie! I didn't throw anything out today! :cheerleader: Well... anything that I paid for...!

I guess this has sort of become a Winnie diary.

Winnie ate another entire 3oz can + dry overnight, and has already eaten half a can today. Have we finally reached a point where she’s going to eat like a normal growing kitten?!

Unfortunately, Winnie doesn't like Rawz. That's a bummer. :( She seemed to like the rabbit at first, but didn't want the other half of it. Snubbed the turkey totally. Ate a few licks of duck, but wouldn't touch it the rest of the day. So, most of the Rawz has been fed to the garbage disposal. I haven't tried the dried stuff or the pouches yet.

I bought some freeze dried minows. I don't know why, but I wasn't quite expecting them to literally be minows. Just tiny little fish. She won't eat them but my god will she bat them around in an absolute frenzy for an hour straight. She only stops because she bats it under something or down my air returns, which mean I have to go 'fish' them out of those places.
My dog likes them though. She tried to roll on them at first.

Winnie is eating great now buuuut it's almost strictly the Tiny Tiger. 2 whole cans a day. I wish she liked something healthier, too. At least the Turkey flavor is fish free.
