My Hobbit (aka my grandson) was taken by ambulance to Akron Children's Hospital earlier today. (Well, yesterday, based on the current time!) On Monday, he was not his normal happy self and had thrown up a few times. By Tuesday, he really did not want to eat and was just staring off at nothing with a strange expression on his face. Something like a grimace but not exactly. His face looked a little red. We chalked it up to his teething--he has two coming in--but my daughter said she was going to call the doctor anyway in the morning. Morning came around and he had not made much noise. He was sleeping when she first checked on him, but soon it was well past his normal waking time. He was just lying in his crib with that look on his face, which was brightly flushed. She picked him up and he was sort of limp. She took him to the hospital, which is literally three minutes from her apartment, where they checked him over. He was extremely dehydrated, refusing to eat, and not going in his diaper. He did not even cry or fuss when they did the IV! They thought the IV would help perk him because of the dehydration, but it really did not do much. After a couple of hours, they decided to admit him to ACH for more tests and observation. All the other tests have been negative. I do not know what the tests have been for exactly because she has been too upset to remember any of them other than that she was told the tests were fine or inconclusive.

He slept most of the day. When he was awake he did begin crying after a few hours, which was a welcome change from the staring. He also noticed the IV, so they put a little cast thing on him to keep him from pulling it out or trying to bite it. He kind of wanted a bottle around 9 pm (more than 24 hours since last actually drank any of his bottle) but vomited up about half. The bottle was only 5 oz rather than the normal 8 oz he takes. They are doing more tests in the morning. They did not let my daughter ride with him in the ambulance so I drove her because she was so upset. They would only let two people total in with him, meaning even if one person was not in the room, only the two people with the wrist bands are permitted to see him at all. The second person was his dad, who could not leave work until nearly 7 pm. He has to work again in the morning, so I have to go get them if they release him. She is hopeful they will, but I am doubtful.

I will let you all know what happens.

Prayers and vibes from Cal and me. I'll say a Rosary for him💖💞

A lot of kids are sick and now the teachers are getting sick too at my school (but everyone insists its not Covid, just the normal colds...) Only myself and the manager are available to sub the pre-school and kindie classes and I've never taught those age levels (I have taught our elementary program). This week I've subbed for 3 days while 2 teachers were out and it's been...not great? I feel bad for the kids because they have this routine they are so set in and I have almost no idea what I'm doing. On the plus side, one of the classes was "physical English" where we literally just watched kids' dance videos and danced along and one of the playlists is Koo Koo Kanga Roo, who are from Minnesota and who I've seen perform in person, so I was a little jazzed to do their superheroes song with the kids.

I hope their regular teacher is back tomorrow though. I hadn't really spoken to anyone at length for weeks and the past 3 days it's been nonstop loud talking. And Puar has been acting up at home which has been stressful too. Let me tell you, kids and cats have a lot in common! I just want to go somewhere dark and quiet and private for awhile...

Right now, I'm okay. Some sleep was actually called for, it seems.
Home with your mama probably has helped. I miss my mother so much at times I can'breathe, then usually have a Stouffer's mac and cheese mixed with tomatoes. She would make that for me as comfort food. Stouffer's is pretty good. Does your mom make something special when you're feeling rough?💞

For me, pretty much any home-cooked meal is special. Two meals that are definitely high up on the list though are tomato soup and grilled cheese, and meatloaf.

How frightening, Elphaba09 Elphaba09 . I hope they discover what’s going on and that he’s okay. :grouphug2:

Thank you, everyone! They took out his IV and he has taken a couple of bottles today, so maybe he will come home? Still no answers as to what caused it. Maybe it started because of his teething and quickly escalated because he would not eat? I do not know. I know dehydration is dangerous, especially in babies, but something about the teething does not sound right. Again, I am just grasping at straws for an explanation.

Elphaba09 Elphaba09 - prayers for the hobbit!!! How old is he now? I can't even imagine how terrifying it is, especially not having answers.
He is four days shy of six months. He is already a whopping 16.9 lbs! A far cry from the 4 lbs 11 oz birth weight! They were impressed with how big he has gotten already. He is still slightly delayed in his milestones, but his doctor does not think that it is anything to worry about at this stage.

You cannot really see it in the picture, but he has a bit of dark brown hair coming in.

Thank you, everyone.

I wasn't able to concentrate on my schoolwork, so I spent the entire afternoon just watching Amazon Prime videos. Better than sleeping, I guess.

I'm spending the night at my mom's. I just don't want to be alone right now.
:hugs:

I’m not going to give up, but I’m completely baffled. Since we moved here in October, the cats have lost, one by one, three yarns balls and a mouse. For awhile, I was able to find two of the three balls and the mouse, but now they’ve all completely disappeared. This place is spacious but it’s not huge and it’s all on one level. I’ve looked everywhere, all of the usual places and the not usual places, on my hands and knees and flat on my stomach with a flashlight. Gone. :dunno: Lily and Iris carry things in their mouths so I need to check the shelves and inside all of our shoes. Urchins.
My kitties are like this with their little rabbit fur toys. Although, once I clean out under the sofas, I normally find a bunch of toys I haven't see for a while.

I'm so glad to hear he's doing better. Do they by any chance have any plants he could have gotten into? I've recently read someone's warning about a specific succulent plant that their young child barely got into and they had some similar symptoms with staring and not responding. Not sure if that would show up on bloodwork or not, but just something to ask maybe. <3

I've been very emotional this week. Today my town is having a peaceful protest later. There are so many people from this town that have posted to facebook and compare people being together for peaceful protests to other activities that are not open. Such as, if we are allowing peaceful protests, we should be able to have fireworks for 4th of July... I just couldn't with seeing these posts and other ones. I am so proud and supportive of everyone who will be protesting later today, even though I will not be joining. It overwhelmed my heart. The fear of the virus is still looming over me, so my support will stay from afar.

My mom and I tried to the farmers market this morning, or at least tried to. We decided to see how it was, and if we felt comfortable. Of course, masks were mandatory and no one but the store owners could touch the products until they were bought. Driving up, relief and excitement washes over me as the outside market was not crowded at all! Mom and I exit the car and wait until the people without masks cross in the cross walk before crossing the street. As we get closer, I spot a man behind a booth with no mask on that looks like he sells prepared to eat food. Looking to the left, there is a lady at her stand with her mask on her chin while she is talking with a customer... In front of another booth across the narrow walkway is two benches where two ladies are sitting and talking to each other without masks. Pointing this out to my mom and swearing angrily, we turn around and head back to the car. 😭

Most of my purchasing has been through Amazon since it gets delivered. Sadly, I saw an article that Amazon was taking away the $2 hazard pay for workers, which I don't agree with due to the dangers of working now, especially in warehouses. But that is the main way for me to order things cheaply without putting myself at risk by going into stores. On the plus side, my latest Target order may have been a pick up in store online order, but they brought it out to my car for me. :heartshape:

So grateful to have my plants. They have been my highlight these past few weeks and look forward to continue watching things grow.
