Hello cat lovers !
I’m new to this forum and I have an issue with my 4 weeks old kitten ! He is not interested in litter at all, he won’t run his paws through it, or smell it, as soon I I put him in his litter box he tries to come out !
I only got him a few days ago as the previous owner could not care for him. he only pees when he is stimulated and it gets really tricky to get poop out of him. I went to the vet yesterday he dewormed him and he said he was doing great, but that it was in fact not normal that he wasn’t using the litter box and that I could try to change the type of litter, I did but still no interest.
I'm so mad at the fact that he wasn’t kept with his family !!
I just want to see him poop or pee on his own (event around the house I don’t even care at this point)
also he started eating solid food too.
I did make him pee in the litter box he smelled it, but doesn’t seem to do anything about it!
any advice?

You can buy a litter called Kitten Attract to train your kitten to use the box: Dr. Elsey’s Kitten Attract™ Cat Litter – the litter cats love™

4 week old kittens are awfully small to full use a litter box, much less understand the box is where they go potty. Can you confine the kitten to a room that is easy to clean in case of accidents? Putting puppy pads on the floor can help minimize clean up needed.

Thanks ! It seems I can’t get hold of the litter where I live, sadly they won’t deliver in Europe and that’s my issue He wouldn’t have many « accidents » around the house, he mostly cry if he wants to pee! I do stimulate him after each meal, and I’m extra careful I watch him at all times. He must be too young then, (he can fit in one hand !)

He is much too young. The common age for litter training is between 6-8 weeks. Even then you need to put them in the box a few times a day to avoid accidents. He will learn in due time. Enjoy him at this stage and make sure he eats well about 6 times a day! :)

Also, instead of a regular sized litter box use a shallow plastic tray of some sort so it's easier for the kitten to get in and out.

Try Amazon UK (or the Germany or Netherlands sites) for Kitten Attract litter.

Yes, if he is being stimulated, and has just started to eat solids, he is too young to use the litter box. make sure you have a small box that is easy to get used to, I start them out with the cardboard flats that drinks like bottled water comes in. Use unscented non-clumping litter, kittens often eat litter until they learn what it is, and clumping litter can ball up in their intestines. Try not to get frustrated, he will definitely learn in time, you can't make a human baby learn to walk before they are ready too. Please remember he is very fragile at this age. Don't hesitate to come here if you have a question, we have a LOT of experience between all of us. We are all family, joined together by our love of cats! You will be blessed for caring for him, please try to just enjoy this tiny baby, you are doing great!

Thanks you are all way too nice <3 ! I’m learning with him to please bear with me if I ask too many questions !
I’ve had him for just five days, and I spent every minute watching him, I was just so worried he would wake up alone And hungry If I fell asleep, so now I make sure my sleeping schedule match his !
and actually I’m not sure but he might be going on his 5th week as his eyesight is getting better, he’s climbing, running very fast and trying to jump !
As he is starting to pee on his own, he sits all the way down, his butt get socked with pee and his fur is getting less dense, it’s really noticeable when it’s wet so I was a little shocked !
I guess I didn’t clean him properly enough, I read that it’s irritating his skin and I could be dangerous, how can I get him to pee properly since I can’t control when he’s going to the bathroom ?
And his belly is pretty big ? And one spot is pretty hard, could it be worms ? Am I feeding him to much ? (I feed him every 5-6 hours)
The first picture is from a few days ago
Also what’s with that pimple !? Oh my poor baby ! I only clean him with baby wipes is it enough ?

My kitten first got dewormed two days ago and his belly is suddenly very big, the vet didn’t say anything about it, should I be alarmed ??

With my 3 week old kitten he had a few accidents but I used a wet can food box as litter box and honestly keep his poop in there a few days and eventually he started using it I kept it close to him and honestly watched him closely and used a warm cloth to clean him. I put him on a routine since I don’t work. All my cats still have a routine or schedule lol.

I also noticed with rescue kittens they don’t act as most kittens they stay with the mother like they should all my cats were found and I decided to keep them. It took my Emmy to start meowing when she was 3 months old when we found an older cat who was 4 months along. He’s very vocal. And with Simba I found him before his eyes where completely open and he could barley walk in a dumpster he had ring worm. I had to bathe him and using warm cloths to clean him for weeks. He’s now 6months old and started to explore I still had to clean his butt. Until a month or two ago he just started doing it.

If you have access to this vet, easiest and probably best is to phone and ask... Especially if the vet prescribed this dewormer. (which dewormer was it, do you know?)

You can give some simenticone, a couple three drops each feeding. Same as for infants with gases...

Do the kitten has mamma or are you handfeeding?

Also, carry it on your shoulder and pat softly on the back and massage the belly, as you would with a baby to get out gases.

He may be constipated? When was his last poop?

Do not use baby wipes. They contain alcohol and can be irritating. Use only a warm damp cloth to clean him. He will get better at peeing as he gets bigger. He is so small that when squatting he is too close to the litter. Also, if his bum is raw, apply coconut oil for soothing protection.

What pimple are you speaking of?

He did poop once a day late at night and today he had diarrhea !
And the baby wipes I use have no perfume and no alcohol tho
I switched the litter box to a cardboard one and he just splashes everything around and play with the edges, I guess his time will come ! :dizzycat:
For the pimple nothing serious he has a tiny dot on his skin it might be an irritation (maybe visible on the 2nd and 3rd pic)

I don’t know about the dewormer, his mother is not around.
He pees well but he just had a very liquid and brown diarrhea !
Also I started feeding him tuna because that’s all I had, he doesn’t like other wet food I have, I just read that it might be bad for cats (I did rinse it) I’ll try with different foods tomorrow, I don’t know what to feed him for his next meal, he doesn’t want any milk or water, in fact he stops eating if his food is too wet or mixed.
Sadly It was too late to call my vet.

That's a nipple :) All cats have nipples, even boys. Many cats have 6, some may have 8.

Try a kitten wet food. Special kitty and fancy kitty or something cheaper then other I put water and wet food mix together so my kitten learn to eat at 2/3 weeks old
