I use Pine Pellet Litter. Spend about $6 every 4-5 months. Canned food costs me about $2.20 per day Simply Choice canned food.

How can a litter be $6 for 4-5 months?
Pine pellets are sold for horses and are quite cheap. You get a great big 40-50 pound bag for around $6. So, yeah, that could last one cat quite a long time. Sadly, I'm allergic to the pine and my cats don't like pellets, otherwise it's a good choice.

I feed dry Nutro Indoor Cat Chicken and Brown Rice (recently changed from grain-free)
Wet is Friskies canned food, only the flavors that have a named meat as the first ingredient. Occasionally they get Sheba as a treat, but it's too expensive to feed all the time.

General use litter is the Walmart brand, Special Kitty clumping litter. I buy the more expensive crystal litter for traveling to cat shows, but since there are no cat shows right now (COVID19 shutdown), I can just save what I already have in stock.

Cost per cat works to about $12/mo for food and about $2/mo for litter.

A few hundred per month. Prescription food (wet and dry) + Fancy Feast wet + litter for 3 cats.
I find the litter to be the most expensive part of cats owning me.

I spend approx. $9.00 p/month for Tidy Cat clumping litter. A 5 lb. bag of Fromm Game Bird Recipe costs $20.00 and Weruva canned food which costs $2.25 for 5.5 oz. can.

Oy I couldn't even calculate it at this point. The litter is cheapest, probably about $15 a month or so.
Food is ridiculous. Our older cat has gotten picky and tends to only eat like half a 3 ounce can at a time if that but asks for food 4x a day and only wants it fresh. And the kitten, went through a bout of being picky about what she ate and lost weight so we had to buy a ton of new food to figure out what she would eat. I'm sure last month I spent well over $300 for 2 cats - but, I do have enough now for many weeks to come and at least I have a lot of what the little one will eat now.
Anyway I've stopped trying to keep track I just buy and close my eyes

Around $30.00 /$40.00 a month on food, depends if I find good deals on canned food, mine eat Friskies classic pate ,Tiny Tiger, Fancy Feast occasionally and Tractor Supply Paws and Claws pate and cat litter, that is around $12.00 for two 25 pound bags of clumping also from Tractor Supply.

I don't understand how you all can get by on spending so little on litter. I have 3 jumbo boxes and I use clumping litter. I don't even change it out every month (but I scoop constantly).

How much litter do you use?

I have a lot of cats so I don't even want to think about my numbers, lol. But I would guess that one cat would use one 35-pound bucket of Tidy Cats a month, on the high side, and that's $14-something at Walmart. I think it's $17-something at Petsmart so let's even it up to $20 a month. So that's my guess on average cat litter budgeting.

My litter boxes hold 20 pounds of litter each. On a tight month, I spend about $ 50.00 (a 20-pound box per week for "top offs"). That doesn't include if I need to do a full change out.

The litter box is cleaned every morning, sometimes twice in a day and topped off with a scoop of litter each time it is scooped my two will use any clumping litter that is put in the box, so I always buy what is on sale, but I find Paws and Claws litter to be the best one for my needs, plus I only have one litter box if I had two boxes my expenses would be more.

I don't want to know what I spend, It may give me a heart attack. I have recently got the cats (most of them anyway) switched over to pine pellets so the litter cost is down. Food, on the other hand is expensive. Until the Covid lockdown, I was gradually changing them all over to a raw diet, but since I can't get to the local meat market they are back to canned and some dry. I do not like to use dry but am at this time.

What you spend will depend on many factors: number of cats, ages, health, indoor or outdoor......
Apart from being indoor cats, at the moment my 4 cats are all in the cheap category: adult to senior and healthy. They don't eat a lot and the less they eat the less cat litter one needs. I estimate that I spend about 70 US Dollars a month for food (wet plus a limited amount of dry for the cat who can't always be bothered to get out of bed in the morning and misses her breakfast), litter and water filters. It's another story when I have young kittens to feed, or a cat with CNI or dietary issues. But, for the time being. keeping 4 cats is cheap but vet bills, even for reasonably healthy cats, doubles the running costs.

What kind of litterbox do you use with pine pellet?

I just use a regular litterbox. Toyed with the idea of a sifting type (was going to make one with a cheap litter pan) but a friend who has used the pellets for years told me she just covers the bottom with the pellets and dumps often, replacing with fresh pellets. I am trying that method first.

I honestly don't pay attention to what it costs. I made a commitment when I got him and if I happen to come up short in my handling my money, I would not short him. I would do without. I am in control not him so I can't make him suffer if I err (I haven't ever). I just go get him what he needs and don't think about it. I am lucky that my expenses are small compared to most. I have no mortgage or rent payment because my home is paid for. I simply get what he wants/needs and pay no attention to what it costs.
