I have always heard that bunnies naturally like having a partner. Any chance you will find a buddy for Peter? :yummy:

We have considered it. Thing is, Peter is extremely picky about his space and where things go. He also like to ration his treats out for the day and takes a few bites every now and then. He also is very particular about where he potties. Our concern is that another bunny would cause more stress for Peter by messing up his routines and space.

That is part of why I took him to the bunny hoppy hour at the rabbit rescue, to see how he did with other bunnies. He firmly did not like them the one time he went but the volunteers told me it can take up to three times so my current plan is to go three times and see how he does. If he still doesn't want anything to do with other buns then we will not go anymore and he stays single. If he likes other buns by the third we will keep going so he can play with other bunnies while still maintaining his space.

I know that Easter celebration will be a little more sedate this year. I hope that everyone has a good Easter (at their own homes).

But I would be remiss if I didn't do a little seasonal reminder that rabbits don't belong in Easter baskets. Most of the rabbits gifted for Easter won't live a year, it's a hard cold fact. They also can't just be released when someone gets bored of them, domestic rabbits don't have the survival skills to make it in the wild. Our Peter Rabbit got lucky and now lives a nice life with us, but not all rabbits do.

Don't get a rabbit unless you are willing to commit 10+ years to their care, expensive vet bill's (exotic animal), and proper space to exercise. If you do want a rabbit for your child's Easter basket I recommend adopting an adult from your local rescue *AFTER* doing your research to make sure you are ready for a bunny.

Agree 100% to all of this.

Peter is the luckiest bunny ever. I think he's also the happiest but most bunnies aren't so fortunate sadly.

Thank you for the informative reminder about gifting rabbits, or any live animal for that matter, for Easter. :bunny:

I've been having trouble getting good greens from my Instacart shopper. I know, California produce spoiled and high expectations. But I am braving the farmers market once a week to get Peter greens that meet his (and my) standards.... who knew we would live in a world where you "brave" going into a public space. I digress...

Here is Peters haul, extra goodies because it is Easter weekend and let's be honest that is a perfect spoil your bunny holiday. He got fresh carrots AND berries. No cilantro this week because the local rain ruined the crop (at least thats what the vendors told me), but he also got Italian parsely, kale and red leaf lettuce.

With the rain Peter has a few low muddy spots in his area, but I put a stepping stone at the worst spot. Since he was sunning himself when I went out in that same area, that was where I gave him his pick of blackberry, strawberry or carrot. He took the blackberries, no surprise. But I left the rest for later.

And he is squinting because it is bright. He nibbled on the strawberry a little too.

What do you got?

Bonus of Peter going "whats that?!" when a neighbors dog barked. He does NOT like dogs and is used to most of the local dogs barks. But a new neighbor just moved in and her dog still gets his attention.

And Link keeping watch as I headed back inside while Peter ate some grass because he was sweeted out.

I love how green your yard is compared to the remnants of winter here. Peter is one lucky dude to have such a fruity Easter treat. 🥰

Hoppy Easter, Peter. 🐇 :redheartpump::redheartpump:

Enjoy those strawberries. 🍓
As a fellow vegetarian, I'll admit, I'm jealous.

I am officially a sucker and bought Peter one tray of blackberries at the farmers market. He ate the two berries I gave him and went "excuse me lady, where are the rest?"

Absolutely love the close ups of Peter's sweet face. :hearthrob: And I like how he's keeping his social distance.;)

Does California have ticks, and if so, does Peter get tick treatments?

I've never seen a tick around my area, although parts of California do get ticks. He gets revolution every month to protect against fleas and ear mites.

Hi there, I'm new here and just LOVED this thread! Peter is one lucky boy (and such a pretty cream color too!) Do you know approximately how old he is? Because he looks young in the face.

He has quite the little set-up there, I'll continue following this thread in the hopes Peter accepts a playmate so he isn't alone outside at night. Do you have many predators in California? I live in an area where I cannot keep them outside because of the cold weather, although other people do. Since adopting my current two rabbits, they have not been outside for reasons I'll end up posting in my own thread.

I have been keeping house rabbits for fourteen years now and every single one of them has co-habited with cats, they pair up quite nicely!

We have coyotes, foxes and hawks/falcons here. We've only ever had a fox kill a rabbit in our yard and that was before we kept them locked up at night (before we knew foxes would come into a fully fenced yard).

He is three or four years old. Just has a little baby face.

I don't think we will be adding a second bun any time soon. Peter really is particular about his things and I don't think he would share well. To give you an idea, he never potties in his hutch .... ever. He's been accidentally kept inside twice and both times he held it until we let him out (both days I had to leave at 4am and no one remembered I left too early). His potty spot is the furthest corner of his area and no where else. I've never found a nugget outside the potty area. He also will pace his fresh veggies and treats to last him the whole day. When we first got him he would hide them under bedding or turn his dish upside down to hide things under it, but that habit broke when he figured out he would get new stuff regularly. Usually when I put out new things he's taking the last bite of yesterday's treat. If I go in early to clean his hutch, he gets very mad at me for moving his food around or, even worse, replacing it. It is something I have seriously considered and our local resuce does do bonding and pairing services. But I really don't think Peter would handle his routine and habits being disrupted.
