Argh! People! I stopped at Menards today to pick up some shop towels to make masks with and then a few other things. I am wearing gloves and a mask and staying far away from people of course. Get to checkout, only one person in line and I gave him seven or eight feet. I go through checkout and am standing there paying and this unmasked stupid woman comes from outside and goes through my lane, moving my cart to get by. If that wasn’t enough, she stops LEANS OVER ME, like less than a foot away and says “here is your cart, hon” and pushes it near me. I think I going to wash my hair and take a shower.

Using a face mask incorrectly can be worse than not wearing one at all, so when you wear one, remember to:

• Wash your hands before putting one on
• Wash your hands after you've finished putting it on and adjusting it
• Do not touch your mask again, but if you do, wash your hands again
• When you're done with your mask, remove it from behind, not in front, and either immediately dispose of it or place it in a bag to be washed if it's cloth. And then wash your hands again
• Don't reuse if possible. If making cloth masks, have multiple you can go through throughout the day before you need to wash them.

The reason these steps are important is because, if the mask is at all effective, it's trapping lots of viral particles. Either they're from you breathing them out if you have the virus, or from other people breathing it out and drifting onto your mask. Either way, every time you touch the mask, you're introducing viral particles to your hand and you can now transfer that to whatever you touch next.

You can also wear glasses or sunglasses when out in public to protect your eyes, but the same rules apply.

Non-woven fabrics like felt are going to better at trapping the virus, and multiple layers provide more protection too. Of course there will be a balance to find what is still comfortable enough to be able to tolerate. But remember, homemade masks only reduce the amount of virus that can make its way through, not eliminate it. So keeping your distance from people is still very important even with a mask.

A General PSA:
No mask per my specialists. Limits my air exchange with clean oxygen. If you are in a healthcare facility, absolutely. If an area is high traffic, many people have came and went already that day, standing, sitting, breathing, don't go in. Avoid at all costs. Especially if you have any organ disease of any kind, any autoimmune dz, incl diabetes, lupus, IBD/Crohns', any cancer, any lung dz or deficits or if you have someone at home or you interact with regularly with any of these diseases or deficits. We an carry this asymptomatically.

Do not believe a mask, or gloves, or a gown will protect you. It's false security. The best protection is NO public places, NO public building or businesses, when outdoors, wide berths and no sharing the same air/physical space with someone.

COVID19, spread by the virus SARS-CoV-2, severe acute respiratory syndrome, becomes pneumonia, becomes respiratory failure, damages other organs due to dehydration, poor perfusion, poor blood pressure and loss of body's balance/homeostasis, is viable and stable in the air for 3 hrs, on surfaces for 72 hrs, including non-porous and porous.

It adapts, it behaves, in changes to suit the new challenge or host for its own survival and propagation, not yours, not ours. It's a selfish bastard of a parasitic life sucking disease and will take months yet to dissipate from our population around the world. The aftershock of it on the body that has "recovered" and cleared the virus are just beginning to be understood; permanent lung damage, prone to infections and inflammation the rest of a now shortened lifespan, kidney damage, GI damage, heart damage. China is getting us their findings as fast as they gather them.

It's zoonotic, jumping species, again, keeping us abreast of viral changes is Dr. Scott Weese DVM, DVSc, DACVIM University of Guelph, of the Ontario Veterinary College’s Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses. This coronavirus is being found in the antibody tests of cats and ferrets, just like the SARS coronavirus in 2003. China is assessing and gathering clinical data as we speak, monitoring the 2 dogs, many cats and ferrets found to have already been infected, and cleared, the virus. It only infects from human to the cat or ferrett, not animal back to human. Cats can spread it to cats in their household, and in an outdoor cat community, after we've infected one.

Rather than masking or gloving up and interacting with people at work or in public, stay home, learn a new skill, garden, crochet, read that series you wanted to read years ago but never took the time, yoga, tai chi, run, walk the dog, play with the cat, build the cat a new tower, or window perch or CATIO, woot woot. But, please, limit your public interaction and travel to said place to absolutely bare necessities, until this awful nightmare is over. From my heart to yours. Be safe. Be present. We are staying home. Since the CDC is now recommending masks, Rick brought his supply of masks up from the basement. He uses them for his projects (painting, sawing wood, staining, etc.) and had them long before all this mess started. We only have a few left, so when we do finally go out, we'll use them. I realize that the best thing to do is simply stay home, but at some point, you need to get out for groceries and such.

He still goes for his walks outside; I'm walking in the house and I walk around our property to get some floors in.

I need to get Clarence out for a drive; he should at least be driven every other week or so. But even if I do that, I'm not going anywhere in particular and I'm not stopping anywhere for anything.

Seems like people fall into two categories, the ones like you mention and yes that is dangerous behavior. They are people that believe that it is all somewhere else and won't touch them or the area where they live. Ohio's governor put it best, if you are in an area where you think there is no virus you are wrong you just don't know that it is in the area yet. Then there are the people who are very fearful. They have this wide eyed deer in the headlights look and they are trying to stay far way away from everyone. They look down the grocery aisles looking for one where there is no one. I feel sorry for them.

Actually if anyone is keeping up on legitimate news they know that sale of the n95 is no longer being done to the general public therefore they would know that what you have was not recently bought. Even Amazon has completely stopped their sale to the general public. They have also stopped their sale overseas. All n95 masks being produced in this country are going to health care facilities. I think the only way that someone would be able to get one now outside of a healthcare worker would be someone who needs it for a legitimate medical reason, kind of like by prescription only.

Yes, i finally started using it today. i think at this point what matters is lessening the burden on the health care system. Its too bad the companies dont find a way to mass produce mask for hospitals and also citizens. i wish they would realize its important to stop this from spreading.

My dad is a big consumer - not buying things is really hard for him. He recently bought an electric wheelbarrow online and needed oil so he sent me today for that. There was a couple + their two year old toddler running all over the auto parts store. Not staying away. Not following the x’s and just chatting away with workers. I get you want to leave the house, trust me, I want nothing more than to just go out to eat in a restaurant. But that’s dangerous so please people just stop it.

Just found out that a patient at the care home my sister works at has the virus and she was taking care of him. She came off her shift yesterday feeling ill so she won't be going back to work now. I'm really scared. Her supervisor and those in charge have been so reckless. Pushing them to work without the proper protective gear. I hope she didn't contract anything from him.

Well the Wyze cam converted to webcam with their released firmware is great. You can Zoom, Skype GoToMeeting or other video conferencing sites for more then one person or one on one like Skype or you can do live broadcasts on YouTube. I haven't checked Livestream. But a good solution to those of you who can't see friends or relatives due to the virus.

i havent seen anyone being rude to any senior citizens. So im hoping no one will bother you. But then again, you find awful people everywhere.

A few weeks ago i saw a woman thats a senior citizen, just crying hysterically outside of a publix, she was surrounded by people trying to help her. So you do see kindness out there still.

Today i was in publix (again) and saw two women just yelling and causing a raucous outside the store with a police near by. He had to ask them to leave and made sure they left at different times.

There are crazy people out there for sure, so its best to be careful.

I went to visit my dad today, and I can see the panic in my older brothers house. My SIL was telling her son not to hug her. My SIL looked panicked to see me. My brother got home from shopping and he sprayed every item he had with an alcohol spray, and stripped his clothes in his yard to change. Hes even wearing some plastic shield that he uses for work at his auto repair shop.

I knew people were panicking but it was my first time seeing it in my family.

Dont get me wrong, i dont blame them. But it seemed kind of sad to not hug your own child. Regardless, once one person has it in the house, can you really stop it from spreading?

We went to Kroger today. We kept our phones and my credit card that we used to pay for groceries in a ziplock baggie. No masks. We brought about 5 Clorox wipes and wiped down everything we touched before putting it into the buggy. Once we got to the car, we sprayed the outside of all the bags with a 50% alcohol solution (perks of being lab rats!) and put them in the trunk (it's hot here so in theory that heat did some killing). Used hand sanitizer as soon as we got in the car. When we got home, we stripped down, threw our clothes in the washing machine, and washed them in hot water and dried them for a long time. Unloaded the groceries and sprayed down the counter with the alcohol solution. We then took hot showers.

We're still going out every other day for take out and groceries. We're not good at making all our meals at home or planning for it. And we don't like to eat stuff like sandwich meat. We get the real stuff like rotisserie chicken. Frankly it's a good thing we have the stay at home order. Pretty sure it's a good thing that the sea of old people at work aren't exposed to people like me.
