whole families coming into the store
The distancing isn't for people within family units. If they as individuals are maintaining the required distance between themselves and strangers when they're in the store (and don't have any other way to entertain themselves and try to keep a semblance of sanity), and the store where she works has hand washing stations plus scheduled cleaning by store employees, then as far as I know this is all within the guidelines. She could consider speaking to management and see if they can arrange something where she's able to stay home.

Although I wanted to go up for Father's Day in early June, I won't be going to South Dakota to see my Dad until later in the summer....(sigh)

Thats been on my mind constantly lately.
I've been thinking about you :hearthrob::grouphug:

What she said is that these families come in not to buy something but to just "cruising around" as my daughter put it, looking at everything, kids wandering here and there, touching everything. If people are supposed to stay home that does not mean a whole family needs to go out looky-loo-ing because they are bored at home, it means "stay home unless it is absolutely necessary to go out". This is a warehouse type store like Home Depot or Lowe's and my daughter does stocking shelves so she cannot do this from home. The restrooms are closed to the public. Apparently you have a mistaken idea of what it means to stay home and social distancing. Once the virus is in my daughter's small town it will spread like wildfire if people ignore the rules and recommendations. A store of any kind is not the place for entertaining yourself or your kids. If this is how people act after a short time of being more or less confined to their homes I dread to think what it will be like by July (and I don't think the virus will have had its run by then), are they going to kill each other or at least beat each other up because they are going stir-crazy with boredom? Listen up, people, find something else to do, your homes will be the cleanest they have ever been, you will have home-cooked meals most of the time unless you have it delivered or eat junk food from the drive-thru, read a book, write a letter instead of sending an email, do some crafts, play board games, surely there is something you can do to keep yourselves occupied instead of endangering those who have to be out and about.

Finally got around to doing my taxes and filling out the census stuff which I consider an invasion of my privacy because they ask one's name, birthday, place of birth etc. Why can't they be satisfied with asking how many people live there and if there are any school age children or retired people? I'm not surprised that undocumented people do not want to answer the questions.
Every year I am getting a smaller tax refund but the taxes I pay keep going up, cost of living raises do not keep up with the true cost of living so us older folks get poorer and poorer.

Costco has implemented a new policy where only two individuals per cardholder will be allowed in the store at once, so for the most part the kids need to stay home.
This apparently does not apply to families with kids, because there were several such groups in my Costco today. I think, it was supposed to be for people who would bring a "guest shopper" with them... at least that seems to be the interpretation 'round these parts.

We went to BJ's yesterday to pick up some things, and they have started a new policy where they open at 8a.m. for those over 60. You should have seen the dirty looks that we got from those standing in line for the regular opening time, including from one guy who tried to follow us in, but was stopped at the door. Hey, we didn't start it, we just took advantage of it.

Yeah, they did the same here but made it 16 (some farm workers are 16-17 so that's probably necessary). They also said "no pets" but I didn't even know they allowed pets. . .they have a sign on the door saying only service dogs are allowed.

What a low life. Why should he care if they give people over 60 a break?

Starting Monday I will (finally) be getting hazard pay. Should have gotten it from the start, but I'll take it lol

My vet clinic is now not allowing owners into the building, so my clinic told me they will put Teddy in exam room 1 tomorrow for his appointment because it has a large window I can watch from. Interesting times we are living in.

although I had to wait outside the building

I was allowed into the consulting room for the first examination although I had to wait outside the building until the previous patient came out. Two days later, I met the vet on the doorstep to hand over Katy in her carrier before her operation. I was allowed inside (alone) when it was time to pick her up. I wonder how we'll go on next week, when the stitches have to be removed!

Another interesting point: We've been told to do our shopping just once a week!
I have always made just one main shopping trip a week and was quite an expert at shopping, cooking, eating and producing no waste (apart from wilted lettuce leaves, potato peelings (but not always), etc. Of course, in addition, I was able to shop for other, mainly non-food items whenever I felt like it - which was quite often.

I never imagined that shopping once a week would be simply impossible!
Why?
Because, perhaps a third of the items on my shopping list are not available. Natural yogurt, fresh milk, kitchen paper, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, rye bread, plus items I was planning for meals are just a few essentials I couldn't buy yesterday. If I pick up alternatives on the spur of the moment, I can guarantee that half of them won't be eaten and have to be thrown away - particularly when it comes to fresh stuff.
So, at the moment, I go shopping more than once a week in spite of C. - but I'm still working on a more elaborate (interactive?) shopping list.:hellocomputer:

I feel for all of you. My little town couldn't care less. Except for schools, everything is open and it's business as usual. Except no toilet paper or canned goods.
Haven't been to town in a week though. Things may have changed, I'll find out when I go into town today.

The really sad thing is that the City of Minneapolis has announced that all pools and beaches will be closed for the summer and I expect neighboring cities will do the same. Hard to imagine a summer without swimming.

LOL, this year my mom bought season passes for the waterpark for my niece and nephew (and the rest of the family). It's the first year she bought passes. Just our luck. . .I wonder if they'll refund them if they get closed or the situation continues into the summer.

I just found out that my grandmother has entered hospice. She's survived several cancers, and when they found yet another tumor, she decided not to have it treated. She's in her nineties and feels like more chemo and surgery would be a waste.

No one knows how long she has. It could be months.

My grandmother is a strong woman. She grew up during the Depression and WWII, raised seven children, lost my grandfather relatively early, and is a multi-cancer survivor. I feel like I haven't lived up to her example. She'd never say it, but I think I disappoint and worry her too much. I am so, so sorry for that.

What is wrong with your daughter to be wearing her brother's baby clothes? Do you think she cares or that Aedan cares? You will save a lot of money this way also. Even if Aedan's clothes are all boy-type (blue) a girl will look just fine in blue also. Don't stress over silly stuff like that.
Nothing is wrong with it. I've just been daydreaming about dressing her in frilly pink stuff.

Anyone remember that scene from 300 where they come up on the decimated town and some little kid walks out of the smoke and says, "It's quiet now . . . " and then passes out? I feel like I can totally relate to that kid after John went out for juice and came home with 4 new Hot Wheels cars for the miniature demon . . . I mean Aedan.

Talk to her, find out - she may surprise you yet again :heartshape:

On my mind is the amount of life around here - marimo, starter pots for cantaloupe, onion sets waiting to go outside, betta fish, His Royal Highness Poppycat, us, hummingbirds outside (anytime, you feathered little piggies - the feeder is up, the welcome mat is out :) )

I am very sorry to hear about your grandmother, Katie
