Trembling

Hi,

We have two 10 month old cats that are brother and sister. When we got them from a rescue when they were 3 months old, I noticed the brother would tremble whenever he was lying down and relaxed. I mentioned it to a vet when he was in for a food allergy related issue. They said it was odd but didn't say much more than that. Since then, it has gotten worse and now his sister has started doing it. I'm not sure if links to videos are allowed but I will post links to some videos of them doing this. They are lying down relaxed but not sleeping.

(They have an appointment with a different vet tomorrow regarding their trembling)

This is the sister. This is how the trembling started out with her brother. It's more subtle...

And these two are of the brother...

Does anyone elses cat do this? Is there anything I should be asking the vet?

Thanks!

Hi. I don't see much there, tbh. But, I am comparing it to Feeby who does 'real' tremors when she is asleep or going to sleep - hers are actually more 'jerks' than tremors. I have never videoed her, but they are 'violent' compared to what your videos show. My vet said Feeby could have a mild neurological issue, but as long as it doesn't get beyond where she is at, that is probably no cause for alarm. It has never escalated, and she is 15+ yo.

It could be contractures of the muscles in your cats as they are starting to relax, or something like that. Keep taking videos, and if you see progression in them, then show all the progressive videos to your vet.

W Winnifred - how long has this been going on, and when did you last see (the) vet? Did the vet get full CBC and Chem blood panels for each cat?

Tigger has been doing it for about 6 months. I've only noticed Winnie doing it for the past 1-2 weeks.

The vet didn't do any bloodwork.

Just a quick update. A few vets looked at the videos and said there is cause for concern for Tigger. They were also able to witness it in person. Winnie is still presenting quite mild so their focus is on him for now. They are running a lot of different labs and will do a muscle biopsy if the labs come back normal. Whatever it shows Tigger to have, we can then assume that Winnie may have it as well since she is a few months behind him with the onset of this.

I am so glad your kitties' trembling is being addressed by vets - here's hoping for the best for Tigger and Winnie too! :redheartpump::redheartpump:

Bless your heart for being a sharp-eyed person and for getting them checked out. Here's hoping that they determine the reason and can help your babies, who are gorgeous by the way :redheartpump:

Glad your vet took you seriously and is doing the lab work and whatever follow up might be needed! Sorry it wasn't as I had thought. :( Please keep us posted
It's ok! I'm hoping it's just a mild neurological issue too. I feel like I will be surprised if anything shows up on the testing. They are both very healthy and happy otherwise.
