Lux was named after the unit of measurement for light. Since he’s solid black I thought it was a cute name. His full name is Luxbear Pantherscott. Moo’s name at the shelter was “Holstein” which I thought was cute because he looks like a cow so I kept the theme and called him Moo .Come to find out it was just the last name of the people who brought him to the shelter. Also goes by Moomasaurus Rex.

Oh my! They are all gorgeous! Bashful's eyes are absolutely stunning! Makes me miss my orange cat! He was my best buddy! His name was Oliver (he passed away years ago! But man, I loved that cat!)

Oliver's name came from the movie Oliver and Company. I had just seen it the night before we adopted him, lol. And I was like, 8 or something. He passed away when I turned 20. I still miss him today! He was an awesome cat.

Your kitties are so pretty though! I'm still in awe of Bashful's eyes.

This is my Oliver!

Kallie was just for her being a calico. When we rescued her from the shelter, most of her ribs were broken (only survivor of her litter used as bait cats) and I was going to called her crunchy but the wife veto it.

She crossed over the rainbow couple years ago. Lived 17yrs when we were told she wouldn't live past 6 months.

Pantera got her name from her behavior: even at an early age she had an aggresive side, and even until today is the worst kind of drama queen. Only eleven weeks old and she was already trying to bully three adult cats. At once

Of course, I wanted to name her crybaby for the same reason. The wife vetoed that.

I love all the names here.
The shelter we adopted Snuggles from said his name was Snuggles because he loved snuggling. (Not true, haha) We still kept it though because it is a cute name, and surprisingly quite uncommon. Explain your cat's name!
I saw your post about Snuggles. One of my rescues, my next to last out of over a hundred, was named Snuggles. Actually I called her Prime Snuggles. The snuggles from her were prime ones! Lol A really precious cat full of purrsonality. I hated to let her go. Letting go is the hardest thing to do.
My favorite of our names was Uff. That stood for Unidentified Flying Feline. It fit! He made an Uff sound as a kitten, was hilarious and mostly airborne.

I have stories for all of them but the most recent were Quinn which means wisdom, I am not sure why I chose those names for him. I picked him from a photo and they seemed to fit him. Merlin was because I had always wanted to name a cat Merlin and he had the look. He reminded me of my Wizard, who also had the look but who was actually named after wizard air freshener at first😹 The most recent was really Zena, a beautiful girl who showed up outside but who has sadly vanished now. She was so gorgeous with long hair.

Awe, he is absolutely adorable! Thank you for telling me about Prime Snuggles! :) I was actually quite surprised by how uncommon of a name it is especially considering how well it fits.

I named Charlie after Charlie Chaplin, whose work I adore. The name fits because he's "dressed" in black, was found wandering around outside, and is endearing in his own peculiar way.

I also love mythology. I named Selene after the ancient Greek personification of the moon, because her fur has several different shades of grey just like the moon.

I know! I was surprised that Snuggles is not common. It’s such a fitting name! A special name for snuggle kitties. :petcat:

I had a thing for food names. I was looking through a list for food names for cats, and Waffles jumped out. It was cute. Then again with Mooshoo, looked through a list and really liked that name.
Gracie though had that name at the shelter, and she's a little grandma cat and it just fits so well. So I didn't change it.

I've acquired one more, Ziggy. My neighbors' son died unexpectedly last month, he was 37, no known cause. They found him dead. They were devastated. They still are. He had a 13 year old cat, and they tried and I tried to find her a home, no luck. I thought, and I met her, and I decided to adopt her. We didn't want her to go to a shelter. She's a Manx, just a stub of a tail, and so sweet. I felt she will fit in with my other 3. The neighbors (I've known them for 18 years) and I talked and we felt this is the best thing for her. I am giving it all I have to make it work (so far so good), and in my house I'm able to keep them separate for good if needed. And they can come over and visit her!
Ziggy was the name the son gave her and I'm not changing it.

I always wanted a black cat. When i discovered a stray black kitty living in a vacant lot in downtown San Francisco, i took her home, thinking i'd find a shelter or rescue to take her to, but days kept going by and i didnt want to give her up. I started trying to think of a good name for her IF i kept her. I wanted a cool name, like Nyx, or Midnight, or Velvet or Lux. But the longer i had her the more i saw how sweet she was. She'd run up to me when i got home and i'd say "hi kitty.. youre so sweet, youre such a little honeybun". Next day: "hi little honeybun, how are you? Want a treat? It became a daily thing, and i just realized that as cool as those names were, they didnt really fit her. She wasnt aloof and mysterious, she was sweet and loving.

After a week i admitted to myself i was keeping her, and took her to the vet for her checkup. When the vet asked her name, it couldnt be anything else.

"Honeybun".

Here she is chilling in bed with me being smug after making me scratch her chin like 20 times.

Going in the order in which got them:

Estella Flannery Thyme: Great Expectations, Flannery O'Connor, and the plant. She was almost a year old when we saved her and she never had a real name before that. There was something regal and stand-ish about her that made me think of the character Estella.

Astrid Cordelia Rose: Astrid Lindgren, Anne of Green Gables, and the plant. Astrid is Estella's sister. She is a bit of an independent and dorky girl, so I named her after the author of Pippi Longstockings. Anne always wanted to be called Cordelia. I decided to give her a plant name, too.

Fennimore Strider Black: James Fenimore Cooper/ Fenn Rd, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter. My husband and I always said that if he had a male child, Fenimore was going to be one of his middle names. I cannot have more children, but I love the name. Fennimore was found with his siblings by a friend of a friend who lives a few towns over on Fenn Rd, which is why he has two n's in his name. The other two names were because I like the books and the movies.

Willow Elizabeth Sage: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Queen Elizabeth I, and the plant. Willow was one of my favorite characters from Buffy. My husband and I had just watched a movie about Queen Elizabeth. Sage for the plant.

Simon Greystoke Thane: Firefly, Tarzan, and Beowulf. Simon is a handsome character on Firefly who saves his sister. Simon is a large, grey former Tomcat who likes to beat up dogs. All dogs.

Tara Lenore Tierney: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Edgar Allan Poe, and Gene Tierney. Tara was one of the sweetest, calmest characters on Buffy, and our Tara was a wild baby. I guess I was hoping to influence her. (She is much calmer!) I like the poem and I love Gene Tierney. Tara and Simon were found together. I almost named her River after Simon's sister on the show.

Freya Adaline Prynne: The Norse goddess, Adeline Rittershaus, The Scarlet Letter: She was tiny and needed a strong name. (She still is a tiny cat!), so Freya. Adeline Rittershaus was a feminist and author who specialized in folklore. Hester Prynne is one of my favorite characters of all time, and The Scarlet Letter is my favorite novel.

Her Royal Highness, Evangeline Evayne Snow, Princess Piggy Piggy the Benevolent Ruler of All: She is the Benevolent Ruler of All and a princess, Longfellow's Poem, a variation of the name Evaine that reminds me of Yvaine, the Fallen Star in Stardust, and she likes to eat.

Silas Endeavour Book: Silas Marner, Endeavour Morse, Firefly. Silas is one of my favorite characters and one of my favorite names. Endeavour is a fantastic series and character. Also, Silas was badly abused and was just under 5 weeks old when we found him. The vet said he would have died within hours if we would not have found him and brought him to her. He endeavored. Book is for Shepherd Book, a character in Firefly. The actor was known as a kind soul, much like his character. Silas is a sweetheart.

Indy: She was named after a mixture of two things - the fact that she was both ripping around the house like the Indy 500 immediately after bringing her home for the first time, and the way she explored her new home without a care in the world like Indiana Jones. Indy has ended up being quite independent as an adult cat, so it fits that way, too.

Tango: She (a calico/tabby) was named after a calico from a children's show called Kitty Cats (or Pacha et les chats in the original French version) that I loved as a kid. I thought it was quirky and seemed to fit her quite well, having quite a unique personality. ;)

One of my cats is a Calico, so she is named Cali for short. I named my other cat Oliver because I always liked that name for a male cat. and it turns out Oliver is the top name for male cats.

Socks was named by our former next door neighbour. She came between the two houses, but at the time I couldnt keep her as my mum did not like animals, so the neighbour was the one who took her to the vet and fed her, even if she spent most of her time with me. when I moved out, I asked the neighbour if I could take Socks with me, and she said yes as she had four cats already and didnt really want a fifth. She's called Socks because she has white paws.

Izzy, Mittens and Amber turned up one day as older, weaned kittens. Not feral, so they were not born outside, so I imagine that the people that owned her mother couldnt find homes for them and just dumped them. Izzy was the first to come inside, and we just called her Kitten at first, expecting that we would find where she came from, but nobody responded to the posters. We couldnt decide what to call her, so just all threw random names out to see what sounded right, and Izzy was what fitted. Its short for Isabelle. My brother lived with us at the time we found the kittens, and he would call all cats Mittens as it was a generic cat name. I asked him if he wanted to call one of the kittens Mittens, and he said ok, so the tuxedo became Mittens. Amber was named Amber because her most distinctive feature is her big amber coloured eyes with a ring of blue around the pupil.

Teddy was called Teddy because the first thing my kid said when she saw him for the first time is "he looks like a little teddy bear". His full name is Theodore Tiny Pants, because at the time we were following a cat rescue page on Facebook and they had a foster kitten called Mr Tiny Pants, and the kids thought it was an amusing name for a cat, but I didnt think it suited him.

Shaman: She appeared to me for the first time when I came home with my arm in a sling due to fracturing my humerus. She then started to show up and hang close when I was sad and depressed and even just thought about her. Like a human Shaman and hence her name since she seems to be all knowing.

Shadow: She came with Shaman and shadowed her every move. Hence the name.

Treasure: I just couldn't think of a name for him and so I referred to a cat name website. He was the first of the feral cats to tame.

Sopdet: She looks like an Egyptian Goddess with the white in her throat and neck area and a star like shape on her forehead. Sopdet is Egyptian for Star.

Cooper: Originally Noobs 2. He's orange tabby but darker then Treasure. Instead of Copper (for the color) I added an additional o in the name.

Ambrose: Originally Noobs 1. Another orange tabby but when I noticed there were two Noobs (New cat on the block) I used a variation of the name Amber for color because of his eye coloring. He found a forever home up the street.

Spirit: Slinked in and out of the cat area at nights for 3 months like a ghost/spirit.

Gypsy: Just a name I thought was cool . No special reason

CG: Collar Girl or Collar Guy. A large cat (size of medium dog) that obviously had a human at one point due to wearing a collar. But terrified of humans so suspect sadness in this cat's life. Until I can get close and earn the trust, the name is CG.
