HELLO AND HAPPY SUNDAY, (ALMOST FOR SOME OF US)!!

i was pondering this the last few days because I haven't been out because of the weather.

What are some of your most memorable meals? Either in a restaurant, at someone's home, your home, etc. What did you have? Who were you with or were you alone?

A few of mine were a French type-meal and the restaurant is no longer open, very old school. If men didn't wear a jacket, they had several there you could wear for your meal. I had escargot, table-side Caesar salad, Steak Diane, cooked table-side with a side of potatoes Anna, Champagne, Absolut martini and Bananas Foster, also cooked table-side. We were there about three hours so we didn't feel overly stuffed but I brought some food home. I was with my husband (now ex) and a friend from high school who lived in Santa Fe and was home for a visit.

Also dinner at a friend's. They had
Chicago deep-dish pizza flown in and it was the best pizza ever. We had bread and Italian cheeses and wine for starters. The pizza was so rich I didn't think I could eat more than one piece but I did.

What are some of yours?

Mia6, was the pizza from Lou malanati’s? Just wondering...
One of my most memorable and favorite memories of a meal my husband and my 2 oldest kids (3rd wasn’t born yet) was a trip to Garabaldi on the Oregon coast. We were with family and friends of all ages. We went crabbing in the bay and some went clam digging, some fished. We limited out on crab! At the docks were crab pots so we had them cook the crab but we had to crack and clean them; this was fun and messy! We had a true bounty of the ocean feast:woo::banana1::banana2:

Our wedding dinner. My husband and I love Chinese food, so we had a dim sum dinner served with some standard American Chinese food at our wedding. Because we only had seven guests, we had a sit-down wedding dinner rather than the usual party. It was one large table that I decorated with books and crystals. Each person got a book that we had personally selected for them and a pair of reusable chopsticks (and a crystal) as gifts for them to take home. The food was made special by or favorite local Chinese restaurant, whose owner was excited to cater a wedding, even if it was small. As expected, it was amazing, as was the company. We just spent the night talking and having a wonderful time together. Almost four years later, we still get compliments. My niece has stated several times that she wants something similar if she ever gets married.

I don't know. Our hostess was the entertainment director for National Cash Register at the time. She had to travel all over the world.
They even let her m.i.l. come as well to babysit her infant daughter while she worked. She was in France once for 8 weeks all paid for by
NCR. She had eaten at the restaurant that served the pizza several times and she also chose it when NCR catered a function.

My ex husband and I went to a rather posh and very expensive restaurant that had just won an award. Each course was freshly cooked to order. The food was fabulous but very small portions and for the life of me I cant remember what we ate. I think it was the experience that made it so memorable.
Beans on toast or maybe a bacon roll with brown sauce? :flail:

It was on the 21st of november 1999, birthday of my (late) sweetheart.
We had been traveling in Ghana (Africa) for a few weeks, when we arrived in Dixcove, one of the coastal villages. It was late in the evening and we were over the moon to find a place to sleep in "Quiet Storm" guesthouse. The owner of the guesthouse gave us a warm welcome. I guess she was happy with our arrival, because we seemed to be the only guests. We told her that it was my sweetheart's birthday and that we were tired and very hungry. She insisted that we should relax in our room and that she would try her best to surprise us.
A few hours later, she called us and guided us to the rooftop of the guesthouse, where she had put a small table and two chairs, a candle on the table and two plates with plenty of fresh grilled lobster meat, sauteed tomatoes and rice.
It was the most memorable dinner I ever had, not so much because it tasted delicious, but rather because of the dedication of that lady to offer us an unforgettable evening..

I can recall 2 memorable meals- not so much for the what as the where.
The first was on a USO tour in Sicily, where we climbed Mt.. Etna, and on the return stopped at a restaurant where we were served by liveried waiters. The finale was when one of the waiters came out with a bowl of oranges, and asked if anyone wanted one. He then proceeded to have them hold up their plate and, using tongs, flipped one to them- some from 8 or 10 feet away. He didn't miss even once. Sadly, the place was destroyed in a subsequent eruption.
The other was much closer to home. Michele and I had a getaway weekend for our anniversary to Niagara Falls, Ontario, and we had dinner on our final night there at the revolving restaurant atop the Skylon Tower. There was a couple at the table next to ours, and in striking up a conversation, discovered they were from Ireland. When they asked where we were from, I pointed and said "About 40 kilometers that way". It was an expensive night, but yes, memorable.

Rick and I went to the Skylon Tower one night when we were at Niagara-on-the-Lake. I don't even remember the food, but being there was simply spectacular. We spend a lot of time at NOTL; there's a B & B that we love and we try to get a room there whenever we visit.

I also always liked the Olde Angel Inn: The Olde Angel Inn | Niagara-on-the-Lake Pub, Restaurant and Live Entertainment and we try to have dinner there whenever we visit NOTL. It's a pub-style restaurant and is said to be haunted; but as long as the Union Jack flies outside the Inn, the ghost is harmless. They have truly excellent prime rib and Yorkshire pudding. It's simply delicious. The rest of the menu is OK, but the prime rib is wonderful stuff. It's part ambiance and part prime rib, I guess.

Another B & B that we enjoy is the Cameron Estate Inn in Lancaster County. We spent a weekend there and, not only are the dinners spectacular, but the breakfasts are wonderful, too. Again, it's partly the ambiance. We loved it there.

ETA: At home? Well, this was kind of neat, simply because my Dad thought it was neat. For years, my Easter dinner entree was a boneless ham that we hollowed out and then stuffed with a cornbread stuffing. Rick would cut a "plug" from each end of the ham, then tunnel the ham, maybe a 2-3 inch tunnel throughout. I'd fill the ham with the stuffing, then we'd plug the ends back up and I'd bake the ham that way and serve it with a raisin or a cranberry sauce. Dad thought it was just the neatest thing; he had never seen that done before. I'd always give them a few thick slices to take home; well, one time, they had visitors. Dad actually told Mom to get the ham slices out of the fridge and show them to their visitors. He just thought it was so cool. :redheartpump: I haven't made it since he passed away.

Oh, and remember Alton Brown? Well, he did a prime rib one time in a terra cotta planter. A large terra cotta planter. The meat went on the tray and the planter covered the meat. In the oven. Well, Rick's mom and I thought that was pretty cool and we were up to try pretty much anything. She bought the prime rib, I bought the planter and we tried it out in her oven. And it worked beautifully! We were so impressed with ourselves. Of course, we did the Yorkshire pudding and all the side dishes. An excellent meal.

I guess you could say that, at home, it's not the food so much as it is the experience if that makes any sense. It was fun doing the ham and it was a riot doing the prime rib with Evelyn. We had a lot of good times with food. Rick said she was never very adventurous and, although she was an outstanding cook and baker, she didn't try a lot of new things. And then I entered the family and, well, some of the stuff she and I did was amazing. She'd call me up and say, "I want to try this; come up and help me." And I always did. Or I'd call her and say the same thing. We had a lot of really good times. I probably remember those, more so than the food itself.

When I was in the Navy we were in Nassau in the Bahamas fora few days.

We had a stunning meal at a restaurant called King Fish Blue - I remember having red snapper.

I have always said that would be my place to go back to should I ever win the lottery (if it's still there, that is!)

A meal that I had at a diner with my son and niece while on a road trip vacation. We had been riding and sightseeing all day, were tired and hungry and in the middle of nowhere. We finally found this tiny, rather rundown diner, but hey it was food and that was all that counted at that moment. A no expectations meal.
Inside was as rundown as the outside, and when we found out that to use the restroom you had to walk THRU the kitchen, we were questioning our choice. So, when the food arrived, which was your basic burger and fries we were gobsmacked. The best, perfectly cooked burger and deliciously seasoned fries I have ever eaten. And it wasn’t that we were just hungry, it was really really good food in the most unexpected place.

My favorite memories are going out to lunch or dinner at the local diners when I lived on my own an hour from here. I miss those days and those friends. I love diner food where you can get a great sandwich or omelet.
our favorite place is a local eatery with home cooking :) we visit it with cats almost every day :) we like almost everything that is cooked there :)

I'm kind of hard to please when it comes to food. I like a lot of food, but I never have that reaction of "OMG this is the most amazing thing I've ever eaten" that seems to happen for a lot of people. I've only had that happen twice (that I remember). The last time it happened was on a trip to San Francisco in 2017. We ate at Alioto's and I ordered the seafood risotto and it was heavenly. I couldn't eat it all and I was disappointed about that because I didn't have the means to box it up and take it with me because I didn't want to carry it around for 8 hours until we got back to our hotel.

The best meal I can remember I had at a Chinese restaurant. It was a spicy scallop dish. I told the waiter I wanted it so hot that I wake up at 4 AM in a cold sweat. This was 40 years ago and it used to be almost impossible to get a restaurant to cook something really hot around here. He took me at my word. That scallop dish was amazingly hot but also the most delicious meal I have ever had. Unfortunately, when I went back they had a new chef who did not have equal culinary skills and I never got a meal that good again. :(

Yum that sounds soo good!!

I've had a few amazing meals in SF. The best fish I ever had was at a restaurant in Bodega Bay, about 60 miles north of SF, where the film The Birds was made.I don't remember the name of the restaurant or the fish I ate, but if I'm ever there again I'll eat there 5 times.
