:hearthrob::redheartpump: Happy Caturday and Day after Valentines Day. Dad had to work but mom & I are snoozing and keeping warm. It's 25 degrees farenheit with a feels like temp of 7 degrees outside right now. We had a feels like temp of minus 15 degrees Wed nite. Mean mom and dad think it's funny to open the back door when its windy, rainy, snowy or really really cold and let me think they are actully going to let me out on my own. I go rushing out but realize pretty quickly my toe beans are not as tough as they used to be before m&d got me used to the soft life and so after nonchalantly sniffing about a bit I turn and dash back inside. Sometimes I fool them and run down the steps but they are right behind me and scoop me up to go back upstairs before I get to explore on my own. sigh The things a girl has to deal with to keep the minions amused.

I love that expression. It makes me think of things getting done. :)

best friend during grade school was from Leroy, New York. I picked up “you guys” from her
That's 4 hours from me, and I say "you guys" all the time.

I offer what I have
Exactly. And that's pretty special. :hugs:

Sometimes just one kind post can re energize. Thank you for your kind words. They give strength.
Same here. Kind words heal me & give me strength to keep trying. ☀

M maggiedemi SO true for all of us about kind words! The world needs so many more of them.
Jcatbird Jcatbird Yes, the ASPCA and absolutely disagree on the issue of pitbulls, which are proven to be unpredictable, and often maim and kill other animals, human family members and members of the public who are just trying to go about their lives unharmed. I advocate for BSL globally, with no exceptions, as the facts don't lie, the body count rises almost daily, and it does not matter how they are raised, as so many maimed and killed adopters of these dangerous dogs prove. But if they are trying to help cats, they should. Their ads are 99.99% dog content, almost as if they have forgotten about the nation's most beloved companion animals, cats. I don't support them. There are so many better groups out there including Alley Cat Allies, and though Best Friends are pro-pitbull, we just have to agree to disagree on that because they are so good with their cat advocacy programs and other animal advocacy.
Wanda Heart and her big sisters are so lovely! They are poster girls for anything involving love, clearly.:hearthrob::hearthrob::hearthrob:
rubysmama rubysmama I think Canadians speak very well! The intonations are a bit more gentle-sounding than Americans', IMHO, so I like it. To me, the Canadians I've met sound friendlier than Americans. Of course, each of us is an individual, but that's my take on it.
I'm very impressionable with accents, too. When I'd visit relatives in TX or they'd come out and visit us, I'd always end up taking Texas. Other instances of that, too. It's not conscious and I'm not trying to do it -- it just happens. For me, I think it's part of trying to make other people feel at ease with me. Does that make sense?

About accents, or would that be "aboot" accents. LOL. Still don't get why people think we Canadians talk funny. :dunno: What is funny, is how quickly you can pick up another areas "accents". Like after a trip to Florida, I would come home and be saying "y'all" all the time. ;)
I wouldn't say funny, but I think because it's so close to my owm accent, I can really hear the differences. Though while I know people from Australia and New Zealand have distinct accents, I can't tell the difference because they're both farther away from mine.

The area where I grew up is populated with people who tend to have some of the old English pronunciation of many words.
I was talking with a linguist the other day who told me that Boston and some areas of the South actually have accents that are far closer to what the English had in the 1700s than what is spoken in England today.

I suppose I might sound southern to you.:) If we ever talk, you can let me know.
Why, yes. Yes you do. Although to be fair, there are a LOT of "Southern" accents. My favorites, in general, are North Alabama and South Georgia. Those accents are very soft, and without a twang. More like honey dripping from the lips, slow and warm and sweet.
North Alabama and South Georgia sound much more alike that North and South Alabama or North and South Georgia do!

Hek and I had a wonderful Valentine's day!

LOVE that unicorn, but who could resist a unicorn with a little green raccoon tail?

tabbytom tabbytom Those photos of January are great! You can never fool a cat. January knows that the camera is watching! :flail: I love that picture. That is one of the most expressive faces ever. Those kitty eyes.:lovecat3:

The “poetry in motion “ is a lovely way to describe my blur pictures. Some kitties, like Wanda Heart , are mostly on the move. I’m always trying to get her to stop long enough for photos but she has her own ideas. Getting a new toy usually means she going to grab it and start playing. I love watching her run off with things but never get a good photo of that. Lol Maybe one day? I’ll keep trying. I’m glad you enjoy the action shots. ;) The kitty expressions always put a caption in my mind. I think they speak through their expressions.

rubysmama rubysmama Naturally it would be Wanda Heart. :) I think her little face is shaped like the heart. She can really get to my heart!

I enjoy listening to different accents. I find the human voice to be very interesting and have never heard an accent that I didn’t love. I’d like to hear all accents if I could. I met a guy who had just come here from Scotland and his voice was lovely. I had to listen carefully to understand a few words and he had to listen carefully to me too. After a little while we both got “tuned in” to each other. I don’t know if her enjoyed it as much as I did but I found it a bit like music. I guess that’s how all accents strike me. The music of speech. Not funny but beautiful and magical. I guess we all blend speech at times. I have an in law that thought we had odd speech habits but he uses many of the same words and phrases now. He grew up in the same state but the Northern part. Lol

Zenobia Harper of South Carolina is a Gullah Geechee lady who recites a poem online in both Gullah dialect and then in more standard English. Gullah is a mix of four language influences. I often heard this when I was growing up and I found it fascinating. The poem she chose is great. The Four Sisters. Love, Hope, Joy and Peace. In Gullah it’s “Dem four gals”. It states that Hope is never in vain and that you should take the Four sisters with you as you shape your destiny. In any language or accent, this is a beautiful sentiment. Our hearts and hopes for life are the same no matter how we say it.

dustydiamond1 dustydiamond1 You and Mom chose a good time to snuggle down! It’s far too chilly there for little paw beans!
I love the photos but the second made my laugh. Satisfying the minions. Lol Such a kind and patient fur baby! I can just picture her dashing down the steps, happy tail flying with her minions in close pursuit. I think she is laughing in the second photo. :catlove:I’m glad you are warm and hope Dad returned soon to join in the snuggles.

M maggiedemi I offer you guys all the kind words and and strength I can send. You certainly deserve kindness and healing. You’re pretty special yourself! :hugs:
When my friend first moved here she had a jacket with Leroy printed on the back. A name that is pronounced LeeRoy is common in the south and some of the kids started calling her Leeroy. She explained that it was pronounced Le Roy. She missed her hometown a lot but I spent time showing her some pretty places where we lived at the time. We became very close over the years. She grew up to remain in the south. I guess she learned to love it here too. I got a chance to go North and found the area where she grew up to be beautiful.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I did think of you when I spoke to that young man. As always, I did what I could to advocate for kitties. I don’t care for the commercials his employer puts on TV. I expressed that I always turn off their commercials as they bother me. I expressed that it is my opinion that happy faces get more help than the things they show. Put a cute kitty face on TV! Of course, he is an employee. He did say that they are working on changing the TV commercials. We’ll see.
I too find that I shift my speech when I am around others. I agree that it is a subconscious effort to make others feel at home and also to be understood. If I’m not around humans for awhile , I only speak cat!😸

Lari Lari I have had friends from many places and I always loved how special each accent is. I cannot always tell where someone is from either but I do love listening!

Furballsmom Furballsmom She is grown! She’s not a large cat yet though. That little face is very distinctive. 😽 She’s funny, cute and very sweet. She is very caring to the older kitties. I’m so glad she came to us.
BJ is better but still recovering. Bonjure is still full of attitude! Lol He always wants to be babied. He has sneezed a few times but didn’t seem as affected as the ones who really got sick. Octokat is still having tummy issues but he had those before too. I am giving him extra special foods. He feels much better now so I am greatly relieved. He is back to being sassy and grabbing me every time I go in or out of his bedroom. He’s also back to laughing and talking a lot. I still have a bit of sneezing around the house. Each time I run to see who sneezed! Lol Unless it’s me. Thank you for asking. I actually took some pictures of BJ and Bonnie to post tonight.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953  Catch me when I’m realllly tired and I sound more Southern. I slow everything down. Some of the residents with long family history here sound very “English.” This area was an English colony and many families never left the area. Language is passed down. The further out of the main towns you go, the more of that twang you will hear. I can do the twang! Lol I was always amused that visitors to the port wanted to hear that really strong twang and slang. I hated to disappoint so I obliged if asked. The stereotype for southern seems to be that heavier accent. I was also amused when they thought I was NOT from here. I guess they all saw the movie....”Life is like a box of choclets, , ya never know what yur gonna get.” The woman who sits on the park bench talking to Forrest Gump in the movie is a closer match to the accent found around here.

I’m glad you and Hek had a good day yesterday. It was a good day for kitty love here too.

I liked the Unicorn tail too! Happy tail!

It looks like the rain cleared the air a bit here. I noticed that the azaleas are trying to bloom very early this year and the tea olive is in full bloom already so maybe it was pollen. The air purifiers may be helping too. Of course the medicine could be the answer as well. I may not know what caused it, I’m just so glad the kitties are better. Lady is still sneezing and feeling it the most. Even so, she wants to go for harness walks or in the garden. Right now, she's not allowed but hopefully soon. BJ still looks a little stressed but he’s much better! Smokey did sneeze once tonight. Whistle hasn’t sneezed and has been playful again. It’s become a battle for lap time again and I’m very grateful. The only cats that were affected are the ones who were in the areas with open windows. Not all of those got sick but in total, I was medicating 10 for varying degrees of sneezing and allergy symptoms. It’s been a long time since I had to medicate that many at once. It had me really worried that all the kitties in the same areas would get sick. Since they didn’t, maybe the vet was right about the cause. If I had known this was coming, I would have purchased stock in the Lysol company! And whoever makes the lysine, antibiotics and antihistamines!! 60 doses a day of meds for cats and six for me!!:thud:I want to thank the Publix store and my vet for giving me a nice discount! To everyone out there, keep Lysol and Clorox on hand!! It may not have solved a pollen problem but it certainly made me feel better! Huh! I also had to do flea treatments during this time. Thank goodness kitties are VERY forgiving!! We still have a little more to go with meds but nearly done for the kitties. I’ve reminded myself that I have had times where I had to medicate more kitties! This was easy compared to the last times. Still wondering if we are really past this but very hopeful. Now I’m going to see if there are filters I can put in the windows that will still allow the kitties a clear view of outside.:headscratch:

Have a great night everyone!:heartshape:

You have a friend from Le Roy? Before I was born, my parents lived just up the road in Churchville. As to accents, mine is a mishmash of western NY, which is nothing like downstate, and a lot of southern from my time south of the Mason-Dixon Line when in the service. It seemed that if you talked like a Yankee, you got every dirty detail there was, so I learned real quick to blend in, and all these years later, there are still traces remaining

Interesting thoughts from both of you. :)

Personally, I think most Canadians and Americans sound pretty much the same. Of course, there's regional accents, but when I had a job where I spoke with customers from both Canada and the US, most times I couldn't tell which country they were calling from by their voice. Also when I watch American TV shows, I don't think the actors have accents. Then again lots of actors are Canadian.

I find the human voice to be very interesting and have never heard an accent that I didn’t love. I’d like to hear all accents if I could. I met a guy who had just come here from Scotland and his voice was lovely. I had to listen carefully to understand a few words and he had to listen carefully to me too.
Some countries have very specific accents, and I struggle to understand what they're saying. And sometimes it's the nicest sounding ones, that are the hardest to understand.

Glad the Chez Catbird gang are starting to feel better. I can't imagine giving meds to 10 cats!!! My one is impossible to medicate! Hmmm... think former feral BJ could talk to former stray Ruby about trusting that "mom knows best" when it comes to medicine. :catlove:

I also like all accents and all cultures/peoples. We're all residents of the same planet, right? But like music, food, and other aspects of world cultues, they all make up the tapestry of life and I include all of the animals in that as well. As to accents, the Caribbean ones are very musical, as are the Irish and Scottish and many throughout Africa. Sometimes it takes time to get attuned to the lilt, and then it's just beautiful. I don't understand prejudice and exclusion because we're all contributing to the whole, each of us is unique, and each of us has some talent and something to offer to the whole. The Internet is so expansive because any of us can enjoy anything we want without concern about others labelling, excluding, or criticizing us for not being within our little niches. I've always wanted THAT kind of globalism and prayed that someday sooner rather than later, humankind will become educated to these truths and go beyond the fear that is at the root of all the "isms and schisms" to just appreciating all of the beauty and diversity we have and are!

Cats, the most beautiful of all beings, accept and appreciate us no matter what our "flaws" may be. We can learn so much from them!:yess:

I just watched the national news and weather - you aren't needing the actual use of that boat, I hope :vibes::hugs:?
Not yet but there is water on the property now. It’s been cold and raining all day today. We may get sun by next Thursday or Friday! I can’t imagine what the river looks like right now. I expect many are having to leave for work in boats. The current can be rapid at times like this. Luckily, I am a bit above the river. There are lowlands between here that are probably filled by now. The wildlife will be coming this way. I put food out this afternoon for the creatures. I left the greenhouse open for a refuge. There are places animals can get up out of the water here.

N NY cat man Yes, I have a friend from there. It’s a small world. After we met we discovered our fathers had attended college together. Churchville is a beautiful town. A lot of the state is very pretty. I got to see a little bit of New York City too. That was a very long time ago. The Twin Towers were still there. I’d like to go back and see more of the state. I saw Lady Liberty but not up close. Lol There are some beautiful places all over the state.Lots of interesting history too. Maybe my next vacation! Every twenty years or so I take a trip.

rubysmama rubysmama I think actors work to lose accents but if they play certain parts, have to gain an accent. Lol Must be confusing.
Ahhhh, I think BJ started out very well but it’s not that he didn’t resist at times. Some are more tolerant that others. Dolly is all claws. I have to wrap him in a small rubber backed rug! Even so, he usually wiggles free. Lol It can take a bit of persistence. Smokey is pretty easy. Once I catch Whistle, I can get it in but he always hides. Thrasher is the most difficult. It scares her. Mackie 🐙is never scared, just stubborn and has eight paws! It’s sort of a madhouse during med time. Cats scatter! Muffin didn’t need meds but of all, my wild girl is the easiest. Go figure!

M maggiedemi Yes, Mackie seems to have eight paws when he needs them so we were calling him Octokat! He sent the syringe flying across the room!! He’s so big I have to put him between my legs as I kneel down. I have to get him to lay on the bed and then put the medicine in. He takes it okay then but I get the stink eye. I have to take time with each kitty to get them settled back down. Once they get petted and loved on, they forgive me. Then I get the bandaids out for me. :flail:Actually, I only got a couple of scratches during the whole thing. Mostly when the are released and launch off of me to fly away.
Lady has gotten extra time. She’s been sleeping in my lap every day. She was the last to act sick and I guess she’ll be the last to recover although she and BJ are at about the same stage.

Furballsmom Furballsmom I’ve often wanted to post videos but haven’t had much luck doing that. I got about three seconds of Jazzy having a kitten. Lol I never was able to do it again. I’ve got some of the most adorable kitten videos!! My phone is about to burst as far as storage. Lol I’m not thrilled with ICloud. I realllly need to do something different. I spent a little time on a Chrome book but it’s so different from the Mac I was used to that I would have to relearn everything. A lot has changed in general since I used a computer. I even looked at getting a phone with more storage but transferring everything from this one is an issue too. The nearest Provider does not offer any help either! I’m exploring all avenues lately but somehow, something always interrupts!

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I’m with you! Variety is the spice of life! I spent time in Central America and in the Bahamas. The Mayan language is still spoken and that had my interest. The accent in the Bahamas was happy sounding to me.The music in both places was enjoyable too. Open mind and open heart. Kitties have both. Perhaps we should go by cat rules. ;)

Thank you for the wishes for safety tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 and Furballsmom Furballsmom We have been protected in the past so hoping that level of protection will remain. As long as the kitties are safe, I’ll be happy. Muffin still hasn’t mastered the art of tying knots so if we have to tie up somewhere, I’ll retain that duty!
