Last night, I was in the shed. I watched the Season 5 premiere of Outlander on the Starz app on TV. And then I got ready to leave.

I turned out the light and opened the door. And promptly dropped my keys onto the deck. The motion light hadn't kicked on yet and it was really dark. I bent down to pick my keys up and, at the same time, the wind blew the door back toward me. When I bent down, I hit the door knob, right below my eye. Stood there for a couple minutes, thinking, "Well, that's gonna leave a mark!"

Came into the house, grabbed an ice pack and a washcloth. 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off for about an hour or so.

This morning, my eye is a gorgeous shade of black and blue and there's a nice cut there, too. Looks like somebody decked me and did a fine job. Rick says he's not going to be seen in public with me until it heals. He doesn't want people to think he's the one who decked me!

I'm sorry, that must have hurt, I hope it heals quickly.
A woman I play pool with got a black eye about 4 weeks ago from hitting it on the corner of her open car door. This past Thursday, it finally wasn't as noticeable, just a simple "dark circle" (like when you're tired) and a tinge of yellow. But she doesn't wear make-up, it could have easily been concealed if needed.
I must say that I couldn't help but laugh. My co-workers all know that If I come to work with a black eye and I say "I walked into a door"....It's really because I walked into a door. People will always jump to the "abused wife" conclusion. Doors, door frames and walls always seem to jump in my path at unexpected moments. I don't know why they don't like me!

I hope you did not do serious damage.

I had a neighbor with health problems that I used to take to dinner sometimes. One day her eye swelled up due to a new medicine she was taking. I took her to dinner that night. It took me a while to figure out why I was getting all the dirty looks from people!

Glad your okay and hope you heal quickly. When I went away with my mum in law her cheek swelled up she had a abscess in her tooth. One of our group asked her what she'd done, She didn't hesitate in saying loudly Bernie hit me apparently it was funny

Boris Diamond Boris Diamond Years ago, I had surgery to remove wisdom teeth. All the blood pooled in my left jaw along with a lot of swelling. It didn't really hurt much, but it looked horrible. That night Rick and I went for groceries and we couldn't understand why people kept giving us dirty looks. We had no idea what was going on, didn't even think about my jaw. It was just routine surgery. But even the clerk was giving Rick the Hairy Eyeball. Well, we got out to the car and I looked in the mirror. And then it hit me. They all thought Rick had decked me. I started laughing. But poor Rick was mortified. He couldn't believe that people would have actually thought that. About him, of all people. But they didn't know him and all they saw was me with a badly bruised and swollen jaw. I felt sorry for Rick, poor guy; he was really upset.

When I rolled my car over, I wasn't wearing a seatbelt and my face hit the steering wheel. I was fine, a concussion and some bruises, but that was it. The poor car was totaled. Mom and I went in town for something and, of course, I had two lovely black eyes. We ran into one of Mom's friends, who promptly asked Mom if Rick smacked me around because I totaled my car. Mom was aghast.

If's sad that people think this way, but unfortunately it happens often enough that that's what a lot of people automatically wonder.

Anyway, the eye is still bruised, fading down to yellow and it looks like some green mixed in. It's going to be fine. No broken bone, thankfully. We can chalk it up to one of those really stupid things Pam did.

Dont you love it when people presume.
Years ago my friends husband was in hospital having a kidney removed, when she was visiting him she tripped on the stairs banging her forehead. By the next day the lump had worked its way down to her eyes giving her a lovely pair of shiners. It was friday night and not wanting to go out with 2 black eyes she came over to my house in her husbands car and stayed the night. In the morning the car was gone, it had been stolen. We called the police, they gave her some funny looks, asked her where her husband was as it was his car that was stolen and she told them he was in hospital. The look on their faces was priceless.
