Well, I finished "A Cat Named Darwin," which both broke my heart and stretched my soul. I'll be reading it again and again. I also, in a MUCH lighter vein, read "Hope Never Dies," a mystery starring, of all things, Joe Biden and Barack Obama, private citizens once more, and out to solve a crime. I was a little leery about this one, but I really enjoyed it. There were delightfully funny missteps along the way, and the dialog...well... I could hear those two well-known voices as I read, and it was FUN! Now reading the second (there are only two), "Hope Rides Again," and enjoying it, as well. It was kinda fun that Obama and Biden mention Biden's possible run for office several times. Mr. Shaffer managed to make these highly improbable themes more believable that I would have thought possible!

And YES, I am still working on "The Last Time I LIed." If I had an ereader, I'd have finished it already. Using the laptop slows me down.

I'm catching up on some of the free ebooks that I got from BookBub. A nice science fiction : Saving Mars, a couple of mysteries and a couple of fantasy books. Most are the first book in a set. Makes it easier to choose sets you like.

I had a very busy day yesterday. I finished "Hope Rides Again," which did NOT disappoint, and got quite a bit of "The Last Time I Lied" read (may finish that tonight), and today I started the first of the "Aunt Dimity" cozy series. I think there are 29 of them...maybe 30. So that will be a nice, long run for me!

The new series from the author of The Silence of the Library and Murder Past Due...

New York Times bestselling author Miranda James returns to Athena, Mississippi, with an all-new mystery featuring Miss An’gel and Miss Dickce Ducote, two snoopy sisters who are always ready to lend a helping hand. But when a stressed socialite brings murder right to their doorstep, even they have trouble maintaining their Southern hospitality…

With the Mississippi sun beating down, An’gel and Dickce are taking a break to cool off and pet sit their friend Charlie Harris’s cat, Diesel, when their former sorority sister, Rosabelle Sultan, shows up at their door unexpectedly, with her ne’er-do-well adult children not far behind.

Rosabelle’s selfish offspring are desperate to discover what’s in her will, and it soon becomes clear that one of them would kill to get their hands on the inheritance. Suddenly caught up in a deadly tangle of duplicitous suspects and deep-fried motives, it will take all of the sisters’ Southern charm to catch a decidedly ill-mannered killer…

I recently read Close Enough to Touch by Colleen Oakley. I was expecting it to be fun and not only it was even better, the main character Jubilee has agoraphobia. I still have an on-and-off case of agoraphobia due to anxiety disorder so it was also a bit personal...

Close Enough to Touch

It's cozy, laugh out loud funny at times, and sweet.

Started the seventh book in the Bellingwood series last night. I have 7, 8, and 9. And then, unless I can find them free, I'll be done. I don't want to buy the books.

I like Miranda James, but haven't read the whole series. I read Twelve Angry Librarians and 6 Cats a Slayin', but those are the only ebooks my library has.

After signing up for Hoopla, I decided I probably should borrow a book, so I just kinda randomly borrowed Sold on a Monday and I'm so glad I did. I think I started it on Saturday and finished it today. That is speed-reading for me. :)

Here's the Goodread's blurb, if anyone is interested:

2 CHILDREN FOR SALE
The scrawled sign, peddling young siblings on a farmhouse porch, captures the desperation sweeping the country in 1931. It’s an era of breadlines, bank runs, and impossible choices. For struggling reporter Ellis Reed, the gut-wrenching scene evokes memories of his family’s dark past. He snaps a photograph of the children, not meant for publication. But when the image leads to his big break, the consequences are devastating in ways he never imagined. Haunted by secrets of her own, secretary Lillian Palmer sees more in the picture than a good story and is soon drawn into the fray. Together, the two set out to right a wrongdoing and mend a fractured family, at the risk of everything they value. Inspired by an actual newspaper photo that stunned readers across the nation, this touching novel explores the tale within the frame and behind the lens—a journey of ambition, love, and the far-reaching effects of our actions.
Next up, I'm going back to non-fiction and Jessica Simpson's memoir, Open Book

SO...I finished "The Last Time I Lied," and incidentally found the most comfortable position for reading an ebook on my laptop, which will allow me to buy MORE BOOKS from ebook sources! I also read "Aunt Dimity's Death," and "Aunt Dimity and the Duke," AND started on "Aunt Dimity's Good Deed." Been busy reading and nursing a broken toe. Good time to read!

I’ve been reading the Miss Fortune series that Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 mentioned, and this exchange almost caused me to spew wine all over the room!

“I can’t be the only one wondering how we’re going to get the pants under the gator, right?” I asked.

“I’ve been thinking about that,” Gertie said. “I think the easiest way would be if you lift his tail until his back legs are off the ground, then I’ll shove the pants under and Ida Belle can pull them through to the other side.”

Lift his tail until his back legs are off the ground. Slide the pants under him. Maybe my experience living in gator country made this funnier. Fun series!
