Almost Valentine's Day! Is this something you celebrate, or do you give it a pass? Any special plans?

LOL, well, Hekitty is my valentine! I did buy her a new jingle ball, with bright red feathers attached. The lovely thing about having a cat as your valentine is that gifts can be so simple, and still so appreciated! I'm also going to bake a strawberry cake tomorrow to share with the young ladies here in the complex who do so much to help me. And I bought those itty-bitty boxes of candy with cartoons on the front for Jazzie's and Danielle's kids.

We do not go out of our way to do anything particular; however, we do tell each other Happy Valentine's Day. If he is off of work, we might play a board game or watch a movie together as an extra date night. He works this year, though.

The funny thing is that the first time we hung out as friends just happened to be Valentine's Day. We wanted to see "The Wolfman" starring Benicio Del Toro--I love the Wolfman movies!--and met up with a few friends from college and his brother. His brother was the one who mentioned it was Valentine's Day. My ex-husband and I never celebrated it, so it did not even register to me that it was.

Since the only Valentine I have at this point in time is Cal. I won't but if I have a fella. we would always
go out for dinner. We would go to nice places that took reservations. My ex-husband would always get
me Godiva chocolates, eat most of them, and cute little smalls from Vicky S; don't you think those
were more gifts for him?? Callie will have more cat nip than usual. She loves it!! I now use the oil that
comes in a can and spray her mice, let them dry, and she goes crazy with fun.

I've been treating myself to fudge, which "magically" seems to appear in my grocery store just before Valentine's Day. I don't have the stamina to stand in the kitchen for long periods stirring a fudge recipe on the stove, and the only other place I know to get it is a notoriously expensive chocolate store.

Given that I'm diabetic, I do, of course, take appropriate (and effective) medications when I eat it.

We usually go to a nice place to eat. Something we usually don't get, like a steak or Prime rib. I got him a card. a serious one this year, I usually go for the funny ones. I got one for my dog loving inlaws, it has a dog on the front licking himself and says.."Hey it's Valentines day!" when you open it it says...."How about a kiss!!"

I'm not seeing anybody. Even when I do, I don't really care for Valentine's Day. Buuuut... I am excited for rom-com movies they typically release around Valentine's Day. Them, I love :cheerleader:

I'm excited for (Valentine's Day) sweet pastries too but I'm excited about them daily I don't think it counts

We usually just do a card. Our anniversary (in May) is our big romantic holiday, but even then we rarely go out. I got the point I hated Valentines day when I was working because it was the biggest holiday of the year (I was a florist). My husband was in car sales for 30 years so Presidents day (around Valentines day) was the start of the car selling season. We were both to tired to celebrate!!

I love Valentine's Day! Even though I am single  I've always enjoyed it. When it is the middle of a grey cold winter, there is cheery bright colours and themes and special yummy stuff.

As for celebrating, I often give away little treats to my dance students which are always a hit. Decorate the studio a bit. And my mom and I often celebrate together with a mother-daughter thing. We are going to a nice restaurant together this time, so it'll be fun.

And of course, the little kitties get something too!

I have a card for Rick with some Reese's peanut butter cups. I'm thinking (only thinking, at this point) of doing breakfast in bed for him. Haven't decided yet. If I do, it will be French toast, some sausages, fruit, orange juice. Nothing exotic. And again, only thinking about it right now.

We always try to do something small to celebrate. Cards, he gets me flowers. We go out to dinner usually too although so far this year I wasn't too thrilled with any of our fav restaurant menus for the day so didn't make a reservation. I took the day off because I had some doctor appointments and I'm hoping we can get ourselves in somewhere since we'll be able to eat earlier than usual. He actually mentioned going to our favorite Chinese place which we haven't been to in eons because it's not close to us. It's not your run-of-the-mill Chinese - they use much higher quality ingredients (i.e. sirloin steak in their meat dishes for instance). I'm sure we'd have no trouble getting in if we go around 4:30ish so maybe we'll do that.

Valentine's day is my brother's birthday, so even when I was single it was an occasion for cake and ice cream.

We usually go out to eat and my husband normally gets me flowers. I told him with all the money we've spent this year on the wedding/honeymoon, and wanting to buy a house, I don't want to do anything big. But I don't want to go to the gym! (We normally work out on Fridays).

We usually exchange cards and some candy and DH gets me flowers. Sometimes we've done small gifts. I worked for Hallmark when I was in college when we first started dating; so it was a big-to-do time of year for me at work. It almost rivaled Christmas with how busy we were some days. The best part was the employee discount on the big boxes of Russel Stover chocolates the day after! ;):anticipation:

Sometimes we exchange a card or a little goodie of sorts. I have also received flowers some years. There is no expectation of gift or anything from either of us. There have been years that I have received something but I did not give...and vice versa. We usually still have so much chocolate left from Christmas that we really don't need more, flowers are just so darn expensive, and I will only get a card if it "speaks to me". We also won't go out for dinner because it's just too busy. We may get take out, which is a perfect gift as it means I don't have to cook!!! I would probably kill my husband if he spent a large amount of money on jewelry that would only get worn once. We're not hateful towards Valentine's Day but we just don't go out of our way to celebrate, I'm just too practical to spend for the sake of spending, just because "it's Vantentine's day".
As for celebrating in general, I do like to decorate a bit, and I'll make cut out cookies and such for us and to share with co-workers. I just don't get into all the hype of what I'm "supposed" to do.
