live plants??? What do you keep in the aquarium?? Post pics??

I've kept freshwater aquariums before and with plants. Very enjoyable!
My son has a saltwater tank with a Snowflake Moray Eel. The only thing he has in there is live plants, live sand (don't understand what the difference is, but he does) and live coral.
It's beautiful.
Most of his other tanks have live plants in them also.

How neat! Never knew a moray eel could be kept as a pet. Sounds so exotic, haha. :)

I'm not sure if I want to buy a house and move far away from work. Right now my commute is 25-30 min and I love it. I had a long commute living in socal so I really enjoy this short one. Buying a house in my area isn't really an option because they are high value houses and have extra high property rates. If I move my commute will likely be about 1hr and 15 min. But the new neighborhood will be nice and houses will be affordable. I know on the weekends I'll be fine because I'd love the neighborhood amenities. It has all the restaurants that I enjoy. Oh and I get to work from home twice a week without question. So that would help me out a lot and I would just have to tough it out 3/week. And I would be able to use public transportation to go to work in the new neighborhood and it would be worth it because it'll take the same amount of time if I drive myself. But I'm the kind of person who cares about end result. 30 min vs 75 min commute...hmm. But only 3/week. I'm happy with renting but unsure if I want to rent the rest of my life...what to do?! It's such a difficult situation for me.

I used to have a 35 mile 50 minute commute when I lived in the small town of prineville to work. Now my drive is 10 minutes on a bad day! I’m sure happy we moved even though our house is smaller and we have a much smaller yard...

Would the public transportation make the commute better for you? I had a friend who had a long commute by train to work, and it wasn't so bad for her because she brought her computer or other entertainment to do something fun or get things done. Although, this probably depends on the person if it works for them. For me, I get drained being around people and need my personal time to unwind once getting home, so not sure if it would be a good option for me.

Looks like you have some great pros and cons for both sides to help you decide what to do. Could you do a test run of driving or commuting by taking a long way to get to work (make the commute become 1 hour and 15 min.) to test it out for a few weeks how you feel mentally and physically about it?

The plants I currently have.

Aquarium grass seeds. Going to plant them now.

So neat!! Thanks for posting pics! I love the plant in the middle that looks to fluffy and green!

Well, that didn't go so well. The rotini took on a rather strange texture.
Is it gummy? Sometimes when I put the pasta in before it is official boiling it gets gummy, blah. Never tried in the crockpot before.

It's very gummy. I put the crockpot on high and the water heated up, but it never boiled. I don't even know if water can be boiled in a crockpot. I just wanted to try something :ohwell:

Live sand is natural coral sand that has beneficial saltwater bacteria in/on it. As I understand it, live sand can't be used in freshwater tanks.

Graceful-Lily Graceful-Lily that's a lovely tank :)!

W WillowMarie Yeah those are good points. I'm not a morning person so I know the longer commute will be pretty difficult for me. I would have to sleep by midnight. But that's one thing I can work on now. We should be going to bed earlier anyway. I can't really do a test run from this side of town because the public transportation is only on the other side of town. And yes the total transportation time will still bother me because I would still be "wasting time" and spending extra energy. I'm thinking my bf should just buy one of the more modestly priced houses that he would be able to handle on his own and I'll try it out for a while. If I can't stand the commute I'll just have to move out and the house will still be under his name. If I am okay with the commute I can buy my way in to have my name on the house as well. He's the one that really wants a house anyway.

Nearly had a heart attack (figure of speech!)... A week ago I put the collapsible cubes in the loft as I try to rotate their toys around and the loft is only used for creating extra room for the cats. I look up and notice one of the cubes is near the edge and Persia and the cube fall over the edge with Persia in the cube....!!!!!!!! :livid::stars: It freaked me out... I'm a super paranoid cat mommie!!! Persia seemed to land more on her side and her head did not hit the ground. She seems to be walking fine, and after 3 minutes proceeding to chase and play with her sister Katrina like nothing even happened. Keeping a close eye on her, but she seems normal. Holy cow though, scared me so bad!

There is more bad news coming from me here in Reno besides that it is just too damn cold most of the time.
I heard someone retching in the middle of the night, then a certain black cat crawled out from under the cover and vomited onto the floor. Thank goodness no carpet and there was just a slight wet stain the next morning (no wonder with the low humidity here, everything dries in no time). Then I heard slurping and wondered what that was all about. That happened several times that week so I turned on the light the next time and I saw Panthera throwing up liquid with just the tiniest bit of solids and then he ate it, yuck! Next morning I made an appt with the vet as this was not normal. A few days later the vet found a "mass" in his belly that should not be there so he ordered xrays to make sure it was not just gas or a clump of food. Nope, definitely something not gas or food. Next step ultrasound, yikes, a bill of almost $900.00! Bad news although apart from upchucking liquidity stuff no change in behavior, eating, sleeping, pooping, playing as usual: he has several cysts on his liver, kidneys and pancreas most of which are benign but growing and would have to come out eventually. However one of them is cancerous and inoperable so he does not have much time left and there is no point on putting him through all kinds of procedures which just would make him miserable and really solve nothing. So as long as he is comfortable and not in pain which he would show by hiding and probably not eating and otherwise not acting his usual self nothing will be done although he does have meds so he won't throw up, no big deal, half a small pill in some canned food and he just slurps it up!. Once it gets to that point, which could be as soon as a month or even sooner, nothing will be done. Once there I will let him go and have the vet send him to the rainbow bridge where all the other kitties are waiting who have preceded him. He has had a good life while with me these last 10 or 12 years and he has been a good cat bringing me lots of joy, at age 15 is not a young cat and has had a good run catching birds and lizards (and eating them!) in the last place where we lived in SoCal and had an enclosed patio. He also caught flies in mid-air! Ate them too!
So I will miss him who slept under the covers with me like a child cuddled up to me with just his head sticking out (especially in these cold Reno nights when I turned off the heat) and purring me to sleep.

You don't like company in the bathroom?? I'm in a habit of leaving the door cracked open in case one of the cats decides it is visit me time, haha. Funny gifs!
My "LitterRobot" (look it up!) is in the bathroom so the door is always open and even in the middle of the night at least one cat has to come and check me out while sitting on the throne. I'd be wondering if I did nor have an escort if something was wrong.

I'm so sorry. Sending internet hugs.
