I think ours is just a portable one. Dad hooks it up to one thing at a time--- shower, TV, or computer. The whole house ones sound better! I want one.

Ewwww!

Maybe warm smiles can melt the snow & make Spring come sooner? :crossfingers:

Why do cats have to taste everything?! šŸ˜‚

Prayers for safe harbor for all humans & furbabies. šŸ™
I can tell you right now that they aren't cheap. First off, you need a large enough gas meter to handle the volume needed. Then there is the transfer switch and installation. Ours is a 16kw, able to power even the central a/c, and ran just over $7000, including a remote monitor and surge protector. Smaller units, that power only essential circuits, are less, of course.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I think a ā€œbad mittenā€ game could be fun! Got mittens??:bluepaw:

M maggiedemi Even a small generator can be great! Why do cats taste everything? :dunno:It might be something that wiggles and is fun to chase! Snow can be rough but we need it. Otherwise weā€™d be over taken by bugs and drought.

dustydiamond1 dustydiamond1 Thise are great pictures of Gypsy! From the delicate ballet dancer to adventure tree climber! Lol I love the fifth to last photo too! Dramatic dancer! Her sweater looks comfy. I love the colors too. She seems happy wearing it. The mouse hat ...... okay, maybe she thinks you put a poise head on her. Itā€™s a cute mouse though! Thank you for modeling for us Gypsy!

I found something kind of neat for the kitties. They are actually little foostools but I noticed how they were made and was struck by the design.
Right side up, a handy footstool.

Upside down, a neat little kitty bed with cut outs on each side for easy entry.

a feral colony was raided today by animal control. The colony manager was left to watch.
I think that would honestly kill me if I had to watch them seize my ferals. I couldn't take it. šŸ˜¢

irresponsible dreck that is costing so many innocent lives
Dreck is a perfect word for this. No reason for it, just evil dreck. Steaming pile of stupidity. šŸ’©

Snow can be rough but we need it. Otherwise weā€™d be over taken by bugs and drought.
Oh... Well I suppose there is a reason for winter then.... šŸ‘ŽšŸ„¶

Upside down, a neat little kitty bed with cut outs on each side for easy entry.
We know that we've "crossed over" when every object we see, we ask "I wonder if the cats would like this." šŸ¤£

I am currently in front of a county commissioner review of the animal control laws.
It's hard to believe that in 2020, with TNR so popular in so many areas, that your county refuses to recognize the benefits of the program. I'm glad passionate people like yourself turn out to advocate for the cats. It must be so difficult, however, presenting facts to people who refuse to listen. Hopefully those 2 members will help open the other members minds to compassion and logic. :hugs:

With Ruby's sensitive digestive system, I've stopped giving her treats. However, she does get some dry food kibble a couple times a day, which I refer to, and she recognizes, as treats.

One funny thing about her "treats". I usually just drop some in her dish. Sometimes a couple will land on the floor instead, and it's ALWAYS the ones on the floor she eats first. Have no idea why. :dunno:

Oh, that's so cute. It's always fun finding little things we've saved from our past. :)

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Iā€™m not giving up either. I actually have a pretty good idea about their pocketbooks. Lol We all know that saving money ā€œcounts!ā€ The meeting is over and the TNVR was voted down. Not totally rejected though. There were two members I would like to present with a gold star! It is tabled for reworking and another consideration in two months. I happen to love seeing birds too but the reality is just as you stated. We canā€™t go against nature. We are not that powerful. Working with it is far better. If youā€™ve ever tried to swim against a rip current then you understand what happens when you fight nature. Swim with it and you emerge rapidly. This is just one more step towards a working TNVR. I hope those who are keeping this down will start having sweet little kittens in their dreams so they fall hopelessly in love! No cure for that beyond loving kittens!
:vibes::redheartpump::gingercat2: If only I could find a way to sentence them to spend a year here! I know just where to take them to learn about loving kitties!
Studies prove that the costs of "euthanizing" far exceeds that of TNR and managed colonies, in large part because civilians most often spend OOP on the latter while the former is financed by taxpayers. Those might seem like the same thing, but of course the latter are forced against their will to fund this killing while the former are deeply caring and committed groups and individuals like us who spend because we care and most often, without help from any governmental agency.
I guess I was too passionate about my last post, and made an error in posting alleycat.org/TruthAboutCats -- hopefully it will come through as a hyperlink here.
*Weird! It still doesn't post as intended, even though I've posted it that way for yonks and it did before. So people will have to hand-type the whole thing in their searchbox to access it. :sigh::dunno::crash:

No. I guess they took the one I was trying to share down. Its hyperlink was exactly as I typed it. I am trying to educate people about cats and wild birds so that they know the cat-hating bird-fanatic BS is just that -- BS -- and that many international studies prove they are entirely fallacious. HUMANS, not cats, are the leading cause of wild bird extinctions and die-offs; other birds, dogs, and natural events are other main causes.

We have been living in this house for almost 15 years now, and have had street cats and ferals around for all of that time, but not so many now- we put a sizeable dent in the population ourselves- and in all that time, I have found evidence of TWO birds killed and eaten by cats, but I can't count how many have been killed by cars. Also, those ferals have on many occasions left mice on our deck to display, after which they were eaten. Showing off their mousing prowess, perhaps?

rubysmama rubysmama , N NY cat man , M maggiedemi , #Furballsmom and anyone else interested, they did take that article down after a long run, but here is a valid link that will lead to multiple interesting and factual articles on the subject:
Cats and Wildlife This is essential education for anyone advocating for/protecting ferals.

Citrus does repel kitties! Banjo thought the orange was gross and watching me eat it was disgusting! Lol She just didnā€™t believe it was yummy. Lol
Isn't it nice to have ONE food one doesn't have to fight to keep?

EVERYONE...thanks for all those links re cats and birds! We MUST get the truth out there.

If I EVER come into a real cash windfall, Jcatbird Jcatbird , I want to get you a couple of dozen of these:

I got several samples of dry food last summer at the cat convention I went to for my birthday. I totally use it as treats since it's not their regular brand and they love it. I don't know if I could convince them their normal kibble is treats, though.

M maggiedemi Winter will pass and make Spring seem even more wonderful!
Dreck is right!
Just so you know, I crossed over into kitty land many years ago. Everything is seen through the eyes of the kitties around here. You made me laugh with that! So true!

rubysmama rubysmama That meeting was actually in the next county. We already fought that battle in this county. It too two years but we have won here. At least for now. We are passing the two year mark in that other county. The worst part is that as I fought in my county, that county had TNR. It was revoked. The trouble started at exactly the time I reclaimed my last rescues from the shelter. Kodiak came home at a crucial time. If you get my meaning. A shift in those in charge caused the changes. Itā€™s a long story and not one that would be happy to tell. I do hope for a happy ending though. You know I always like my happy endings. Great link to pass on! Thank you!
As for eating the kibbles from the floor, just my guess, my cats must think that floor food is the table scraps they arenā€™t allowed to have. Mom dropped something good, get it before she does! Either that or they are just very good at housecleaning.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Thank you. I will use the link! The facts about costs were brought up but ignored. I do think that there are other ways to mount pressure politically that hit the pocket book. That county depends upon the tourist dollar as well as the film industry. My thought is that negative publicity would put a dent in the tourist income. Who wants to bring children to a place with a negativereputation? This was also pointed out by a good commissioner. Itā€™s a battle of political power right now and has little to do with the poor kitties! The exerting of that power was visible. I can only imagine what transpired behind closed doors. Voting time is near. The public can have a say then. I will forward all info provided through the right channels. This is a when the public needs to get out and vote to have their voice heard. Every voice will count one way or the other. Only four people out of general public got to speak. Each got three minutes. Two were pro cat (one a vet) and two against. I could easily have solved the issues mentioned by both who were against. One had ā€œferalsā€ coming up to her in her yard ( obviously not ferals but abandoned cats) and in her garage (citrus spray or other repellents) and the other objected to a woman coming from a town by me to feed a colony which he claimed attracted mice. Seriously? I have never seen a mouse at a feeding station! So, move the feeding station. I am familiar with that neighborhood and the colony. The food is given, eaten and dishes removed, cats disperse immediately. Small colony. I think he just doesnā€™t understand or maybe does not love cats. :dunno:

N NY cat man These ferals never caught a bird either. They were starving and more likely to eat bugs. I did see them kill a couple of Copperhaed snakes though. My neighbor never liked cats until I removed them and a snake showed up at her door. Now she tells me she misses them. The old saying,ā€You donā€™t know what youā€™ve got ā€˜til itā€™s gone.ā€

Furballsmom Furballsmom Thank you! I will hang in there! This all fell on a weekend when I wanted to honor Sarah. I have her as extra inspiration. She would tell me to keep going too. She happened to love cats AND birds! It is possible to do both!

white shadow white shadow Thank you for the link. You know I will be forwarding it to as many as possible. Shout it from the rooftops?

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 That look so comfy! Can I have one too? :flail:It reminds me of the bean bag chair I had in younger years. A good place to curl up and listen to nice music with a kitty/kitties! I could use a good nap about now! Would Hek share? Tell her I know how to stay on the edge, kitty in the middle. Lol Iā€™ll eat my oranges elsewhere!

Lari Lari Isnā€™t it funny that they think kibbles are treats if they arenā€™t their regular brand. Do you think they would change their minds if they got the same food often? Lol I think mine just enjoy chasing their food as though it is prey. Any game that involves food around this Clowder is always a winner. (Unless I am trying to switch foods! Then I just get the stink eye. Canā€™t really ever fool a cat.)
