I got a 50 minute walk in and 30 minutes on the elliptical today. According to the fitbit my walk burned more calories than the harder workout on the elliptical. That doesn’t seem fair. 🤨
One of the biggest complaints about FitBit is that it does not analyze elliptical work well at all. When I was on the elliptical, I would take my Fitbit off my wrist and throw it in my shorts pocket. I actually managed to get more steps counted that way. There are other activities, too, but the elliptical stays in my mind because that's what I was using. It was really frustrating. Some people would slip the Fitbit into their sock.

Yesterday was not a good day. Spent early morning at the ER vet with my co-worker and his cat, then came home and Rick and I went into the farmers' market. I got some walking in, but nothing exotic. I spent the afternoon reading in the shed. So nothing to write home about.

Walked 2 miles this morning.

Bought a spinner bike for my break at work and it's been working out great. I am only able to handle 20 minutes before my butt starts to hurt too much..it is set up in kilometers and won't let me change it to miles.I do about 11 kilometers in 20-25 minutes. It allows me to change the hardness manually so I have it slightly harder in the beginning then back off and try spinning standing up. I got it on Amazon and only took 15 minutes to put together. It's very solid and doesn't rock or chinzy.

rubysmama rubysmama I saw your post about something warm for your feet, check out merrill hiking boots. I wear mens because my feet are so wide and fat that I can no longer wear women's sizes but they have insulated thinsulate and they are really comfortable. Get a good arch support insert and they will make your feet happy. Wolverine is another good boot company. Stay away from Walmart brands-they cause blisters and just feel like wearing hard clunky plastic. Keen is another good brand that my coworkers like. Carolina boots also have some good boots out there. Make sure to pick up some merino wool socks to keep your feet warm. These are machine washable in warm water and I line dry mine. They are soft and wick away the sweat. I've been wearing them for 15 years-I don't bother with cotton socks anymore.

I might try that next time! At least its reading my heart rate. Yesterday I did get a notification from the app that said I did 23 minutes when I know for a fact I was on there for 30. I did get the 3 miles in in 25 min and 35 seconds so I maybe it didn't count my cooldown time? Whatever. Even if it's not perfect; it's something.

I second the Merrell brand! My running shoes are Merrells and they've been great. I wear Merrell sandals in the summer too but my running shoes have been my primary workout shoe for the last year. I have changed the topcovers on my insoles though. DH wants me to get new ones soon. He's really big on keeping good shoes on our feet. I'm wearing my thicker soled New Balance sneakers for our walks though. There are a lot of those sweet gum balls all over the trail so the thicker sole is appreciated. Those suckers are almost slippery if you step on too many at once. They are too heavy to wear all day though.

I finally got some breakfast; so time to change and get on our there. :walk:

What kind of footwear do you guys wear when walking outside in winter? I've been just wearing my comfy Sketchers, but they're neither keeping my feet totally warm, or giving them much support. So think I need something better.
I like to hike barefoot:

but I hate the stigma in the city. Most people associate bare feet in the city with poverty or mental illness and I just don't have enough life left to waste on trying to educating ignorance.

We haven't lost power or lost our tempers with Willow, but I do wish she hadn't slept all through our last hike. I pushed the furniture out of the way for her tunnels and may or may not do some yoga. I'm so stiff. It feels like I might have arthritis in my back, but it could also just be hypochondria and clever marketing by the pill industry, lol.

Grumble grumble grouch grouch. Tomorrow it should be safe to go to the community forest, even though I'm feeling a bit old to walk right past the "trail closed" sign at Headwaters the way I did a few weeks ago.

Hold me accountable, please? Not exercising could turn me into a mean old troll. I'm not old enough to not need it yet.

Great information. Thanks!

Are the wool socks itchy?

Will definitely take a look for/at Merrells.

My DH wears the SmartWool brand wool socks for work in the winter. He has others; but those are what I know to buy him. He has a few pairs of their low cut socks he loves too. I haven't tried them for myself. Those are the kind of thing I look for deals on first.

The kids and I had our walk today but I didn't get on the elliptical. Sometimes school has to come first.

The kids and I got almost a 2 mile walk in today. We were fine in the woods but grateful for the long underwear and wool socks in the wind! 🥶 Hoping to get on the elliptical in a bit too.

I tried the track feature on the Fitbit to get today's distance. I like seeing that. I'm close to 8,000 steps. Laundry will put me over 10,000.

Heavy duty hiking boots with chain spikes on the bottom at this time of year.

Yup it's just going to be pilates for me for a couple weeks.
But it will be great for your core.

Nice to see you on back on this thread Foxxycat. How's your foot these days?

Impossible here, even in the summer. Too many sharp rocks around.

Two 45 minute yoga sessions and a 1 hour walk on Thursday. I went out for lunch with some friends on Friday. Vegetarian coconut curry and ice-cream with caramel sauce for dessert.

I walked back to my bus stop from the restaurant, which took an hour, then did an hour of yoga when I got home. Hopefully that burnt off all the sugar.

I could use something like those today. :cold:

Got 45 minutes on the tennis court this morning, it was briskly windy but not awful, and I had a great time --until the wind decided to get serious :)
You're the only person I've ever heard of who plays tennis in the winter time. ❄ 🎾
(that green icon is supposedly "tennis", but I don't get it. :headscratch:)
