OMG !! My Gracie is suddenly scared of me - her tail bushy and she is hissing if I go near her !! I’ve had a nasty cold and today put vicks vapour rub on ! Is it this ? Will she be normal again if wash it off? It’s horrible I can’t even walk past her - it’s like I’m a stranger

The camphor /menthol scent of the VapoRub is probably setting the cat off. I'd wash off what you can. Can you use a non-topical medication for the cold? Cold syrup or lozenges maybe?

Thank you - I’ve stopped using , had shower , washing my sheets and she is still strange! Has her for 3 years since a tiny fur ball , gave her a fav food and she is sniffing and rubbing me now however wondering if it’s my voice as I’ve lost it and it’s crokes - Marge Simpson style

It will be the vapour rub mostly I think more than your voice. Even though you've washed it off she might still smell it slightly. When my boy started scratching the door frame I rubbed vicks into the paintwork they really do hate the smell but it stopped him scratching.;)

Sorry you're not feeling well. And, since you just put the vabour rub on today, and it's just today that Gracie started acting strange, I'd say that it's not a coincidence. Hopefully once you get the smell washed off you, she'll be back to normal. Also hope you find something else to make you feel better. 🤗

Actually catnip is not just for cats and fixing a nice cup of catnip tea for you will help with colds and flus. Although you may have to share. And yes, it's the same catnip you get for your cats. I wouldn't add sugar to your tea though because the sugar may give you a temporary burst of energy and what you need is to rest. Also don't want a chance of your cat sneaking a sip and ingesting sugar when you're not there. I've also used their catnip to make a tea to help me sleep at nights.

Yes think my voice too - it’s strange once she smells me okay ! I went to shops come back and not spoken to her and she’s her normal self ! Strange how my voice changing made her hiss too !! She’s not the nicest of cats anyway and she hisses and growls to everyone else; however never has me. I know sounds sad - I actually cried when she hissed at me . Think v emotional anyway

I just put the tea in a cup, pour hot water on it and let it steep for normal time. If you want you can also get the catnip and put into a coffee filter that is stapled (if you don't have a tea diffuse) and do the same thing. Don't use a whole lot at first. Maybe just a slight pinch because too much can cause a bit of upset stomach until you get used to it.

Here's a good description but again if you have a kitty that likes to get on your lap and all I'd avoid mixing it with other stuff.

How to Make Catnip Tea | DoItYourself.com

If you don't like it hot I wonder if you can make a cold brew out of it. It takes awhile to get used to the taste btw.

Also there's a lot of misinformation and confusing information online. Some sites say you can use a lot, some sites say use a little , Dr Axe says never use the catnip that is sold for pets. So I don't know. You can do your research first and do what you feel is best for you. I've used a pinch of their catnip with no adverse reactions so who know.
