Currently we use Ever Clean:
CEE134DD-5C3B-4D4E-96BE-DDB7A1C30788.jpeg

and it’s quite expensive. 27.99$ for 40 pounds. But it seems to be the only cat litter that does well with long haired cats. But it’s beginning to be too much. I have 7 litter boxes with 7 cats. I’m trying to find a litter that is comparable to this. But not quite as expensive. I’m currently leaning towards petcos brand of litter. It’s 8.99 for 30 pounds and it’s refillable.

Please let me know below what you use, and what you think is best! And cost efficient!

My cats don’t seem to mind different litter changes.
Preferably clumping litter.

I know I'm gonna get alot of hate for this but I cant afford high expensive litter for my cat. So I usually get walmart brand. I've had no issues with it just may smell a bit more than others.

Hmmm, I might try that. I know the vet told me to stay away from special kitty food. But didn’t say anything about their litter 🤔 I’ve been using tidy cats non clumping litter because Walmart has giant bags for 10$ and I’ve had to change the litter boxes once a week because of a sick kitty. But now I’m ready to go back to a better litter. But don’t want to spend 27.99 over and over. We have too many cats 🙈

I use Arm & Hammer Double Duty clumping litter. It usually goes on sale every few weeks, so I rarely have to pay full price.

Here's a TCS article that might be helpful: How To Choose The Right Cat Litter – Cat Articles
Thankfully my cats are avid litter box users and don’t seem to mind when I change their litter. I’ve never had an issue with any of them going potty outside of the box. (Aside from a few dingle berries because they’re long hair)

But now that we have so many cats and litter boxes, I need something that’s a bit more
Cost effective that can last a bit longer and isn’t quite smelly. We don’t use scented litter because we have a couple cats that have breathing issues. So far, Ever Clean is everything I could ask for, besides the price 😓

I used to use the refillable litter they have at Petco, I think it’s So Fresh advanced unscented. I only have one cat but it worked for me, didn’t seem to be particularly dusty and it clumped well. It’s like $8-10 for 30 lbs. My parents use Tidy Cats lightweight free and clean and they seem to like it a lot too.

I’m thinking that’s going to be my next purchase. The petco one.
I’ve tried the lightweight litter before. It tracks way too much with my long haired kitties

Let us know how it is! It’s nice that refillable is less wasteful too

I used Tidy Cats clumping free and clean, which is unscented and has charcoal for odor control. I have 3 cats, 3 boxes, clean morning and night and have not noticed any smells. I do a total clean every 2 weeks. After going 3 weeks between cleanings, the litter started smelling just a tiny bit. Chewy has the 35 lb. pail for $14.64, not currently on sale.

If you have a Publix by you, Kat0121 has mentioned to me they often have BOGO offers on the 20 lb. jugs of Tidy cats.

Also, Pet Supplies Plus just started PSP neighborhood rewards program for certain brands. If you buy 10, you get a coupon for 1 free (must use within 30 days; must register for program). The tidy cats is one of the participating brands. (Just the 35 lb pail and 40 lb. box.)

Petsmart also appears to have a store brand of tidy cats now, Grreat Choice, and offers an unscented, but not sure about quality and if it has the charcoal in it. The unscented is not showing on their website, but I remember seeing if in store recently. Again, I have no idea on the quality and how it compares. The 35 lb. pail is 10.99 on sale right now.

Yeah food wise I feed my cat meow mix, my cat never really liked wet food. She would just nibble it a bit then let the can go to waste and always went for the dry food. Now i got a couple of huge bags of meow mix a 20lb of cat food would be a better investment. If I go to the store just to buy a store brand bag of food that's around $4 I know I'll have to go back 4 different times a week so if you do the math it makes sense just to get the $20 big bag of cat food thata more respected.

Litter wise I'd always just get what was affordable. Cats arent as picky as they seem to be and as long as you change theblitter right they should get no infections. It's just like how your body is, you may not wanna eat a banquet but if that's all you can afford you'll eat it. But you wouldn't wanna take a dump on a filthy toilet.

Cats are survivors none the less, I see a multitude of strays running around my apartment complex. But the only time you should worry is when they start missing their box and check their behind every now and then for color dischange.

Don't know if it's available in your region, but I'm using Van Cat and am pretty happy with it. It's a turkish brand, I believe.
I also started with EverClean and then thought it was pricey. I use the pink Van Cat with "baby powder" perfume, it holds the smell and makes good clumbs!
Previously I'd been using Canada litter, but it's become much worse over time.

it’s 24.99 for a 16 pound bag. I’ve tried wet food for most of my cats and they can’t handle it. They start puking. And not because it makes them sick. But because they’ll go over stuff themselves withdry food afterwards. So if they do get wet food, it’s like a teaspoon as a treat lol.

and yes, I don’t have a problem with my cats doing their business outside of the litter boxes. Thank god.

I’ll check that litter out and see if it’s available here, thank you. I love ever clean. It’s worth the price. Just can’t keep doing it with 7 cats. 🙈😬

So the petco litter is a no go for me. It’s super light and these damn cats are tracking it ALL OVER the house. Anymore suggestions guys!? :frustrated:

I use the Dr Elsey's ultra clumping unscented. Only have 1 cat, but it works well and is $18.50 for 40lbs
I just switched to this litter from a scented litter, I like it quite a bit as I haven't seen really any of it track outside of the box, Mo likes it too, she spends less time scuffing in the box compared to her old scented litter.

I started adding pine pellets into the clay litter about 2 months ago. I was actually planning to change all to pine pellets but since I didn’t have the special sifting tray I decided to just mix them. The pellets are great for odour control and since my box is now 70%sand/30% pellets, the tracking has also reduced. I also use less sand than before.

Of course there will be some stray sawdust falling out of the box which is easily swept off. But it’s better than getting litter sand in random parts of the house.

It is also not too hard to clean. The sawdust will clump together with the clumping clay so I just scoop the big balls away then refill as needed. Pine pellets last a long time.

FWIW - I'm a big fan of Dr Elsey's as well, though I feel it has become a bit less dust-free than a few years ago. Still, for $18 for a 40lb. bag, and free delivery if you have Amazon Prime, it's hard to beat. My girls are very happy with it so doubt I would change (though intrigued by some of the more earth-friendly litters).

I jist stopped using Dr. Elseys because my short haired cat was getting it all over the apartment, even though we have a tracking mat, and there were too many excess crumbs that the scoop wasn't getting.

We're trying okocat pellets.
