I've never had a small tank go cloudy! I don't test so maybe there's an ammonia spike that I don't know about. But then I do try to use some gravel or a filter pad from an established tank so maybe that takes care of it. Gah, it's so much more complicated than you'd think!

Definitely.

Don't believe anyone who tells you fish keeping is a breeze. It is not in the beginning and it is a learning experience as you get more and more into the hobby.

I miss having a betta, my last one didn't make it long at all but the one before him lived like four years. I have a saltwater tank but there's only one fish in there and she's a nasty pain in my butt who bites and steals food from my coral. I used to have a bunch of tanks but have seriously downsized. Last week though I ended up taking in a small group of cichlids that got left behind during an eviction. Have them in a smaller tank now but debating setting up my 135 again now. Aaaaahhh!

AH! That's amazing!

You're welcome to post pictures of your set up here. I'd love to see it.

Oh hey if we're doing pictures!

Here's my new guy. They had him labeled as a double tail delta tail plakat. He looked almost white in the store!

He's in a new 5 gallon plastic Top Fin tank.

Here's my old guy in his freshly renovated 3.5 gallon plastic Top Fin tank. I forget what they said he was, maybe a delta tail. Unfortunately I let his tank go for a bit so his fins got eroded, he's healing up nicely though. The light in that tank always looks too blue :/.

I don't have any pictures of the 60g yet. I'm slowly putting it together but haven't found any pool filter sand yet. Still haven't decided what I'll put in it, but I'm leaning toward a tetra tank. I love those little guys, and cory cats. Lots and lots of cory cats! :D

As long as we are doing pictures - here are my best images of the large salt water aquarium at the orthopedist where Himself had his last visit and most recent X-ray today. Didn't look like the fish were zooming around but when I looked at the images another fish would be cutting in front, or one would be turning away - you know. Really a lovely, large tank, probably maintained by a service. Text on the upper left corner of the tank is "Red Sea."

I remember reading an article a long, very long time ago. Someone set up a large tank with smaller, rather ordinary fish that school as they swim around. Think I remember zebra fish and platy / swordtails or maybe guppies. Sounded very interesting. The pictures were attractive.

Silas took a weird turn health wise today.
In just a span of hours, he went from his normal self to becoming incredibly skittish and jumpy... also lethargic.

Praying he makes it through the night. I did a 50% water change today. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

How is he now?

Thinking that it might be ammonia, even though you did a water change and then he got to acting strange, here's a couple things you could consider if you haven't already.

Seachem has an ammonia alert sensor that hangs in the tank, it's good as a backup to dip strips or liquid ammonia tests. The good thing about the seachem sensor is that it only alerts for the deadly type of ammonia, the other types test for two types of ammonia so a person can still be left guessing.

The other thing is zeolite, it immediately removes ammonia.

I took off his night cover and he was sleeping in his tree. A few moments later, he woke up and bolted to the front of the tank to greet me like he normally does. I did my 5 taps on the cover to let him know it was time for breakfast and he swam to the top and waited. Fed him, he ate. Silas is now shoveling sand and maintaining his tanks appearance.

Maybe I changed too much water at once and it threw everything off.

Oh, ... I thought about a cover of some sort for night, and decided to just block the light from routers, the cpu, the coffeemaker, outside.... I came to the conclusion that we're not only a noisy society we're a lit-up society lol!
