Your brother, and you, really have made the effort for this cat over and above what a lot would do. I agree with all that has been stated previously, especially because of the unpredictable nature of the cat. I have had cats who really hated me return for food once it dawned on them that I was the best game in town.

My brother wasn't really a cat person but secretly he quite likes this cat because it's quite large and has plenty of character

The bright light emitted from a 100 watt bulb fitted in a chicken warmer contraption is no longer a issue because in a effort to be forgiven for taking the cat to the vet my brother has invested in a small 450 watt convection heater that warms the whole shed.

Good to know about the heater - I don't know much about them, but if I understand correctly, it is safe for the cat to be near it, yes? Does it have features like protection against tipping the model over and thermal overload?

The unit can be fixed to a wall, so tipping is not a issue

You guys have really tried to help this poor cat.
There's a bit of craftiness on the part of my brother the shed is on concrete blocks and is nice and dry but the area around it is wet and boggy my brother used to moan about wading through it to change the bedding. Now that he's heating the whole shed he can make 3 or 4 cat beds cutting the amount of time he needs to visit the shed. The temperature is displayed on the camera so it's possible to check everything is ok without going down there.
