Yep. The big meal is all fun and games unless you're the one doing all the shopping, all the cooking and all the cleanup. Nope. Not worth it especially for one or two people.
I dunno, I've enjoyed cooking and eating this big ol' bird... and I'm looking forward to delicious turkey sandwiches on lunch break next week! Big ol' bun or bakery roll, mayo, turkey, cheese, stuffing, cranberry jelly, and perhaps a dab of sweet hot mustard, LOL. And next weekend, turkey soup with plenty of meat, fresh veggies and pasta shells, that soup is a meal in itself. I don't mind the extra hassle involved in prepping & cooking a bird this size, I use a throwaway foil roasting pan atop a sturdy cookie sheet for the turkey, makes life a little easier on the cleanup side. And how often do I cook a turkey? I'll do another for Christmas, unless I decide to buy a ham... I lean toward turkey because it's healthier overall, though the side dishes add calories and whatnot. Meh, I've made it this far in life, might as well enjoy myself, and I'm having a wonderful time catching up with all the football...
