Hi, I took my 6 month old Neko to the vet today, and he was diagnosed with a mild ear inflammation. The vet prescribed an ear drop called Surolan, and applied it for him. It has been over an hour since we got home, and he is still constantly shaking his head and groom/scratch his ears. There is even a little bit of blood in one of his ears. His ears are also flatter than usual. Is this normal? The vet said some head shaking and flat ears are normal, but this seems like a bit too much?

Not familiar fully, but sounds normal. The blood is probably from him scratching, mine does this (shaking/itching) when I clean hers and sometimes cuts it by itching hard which causes some blood. I would apply some sort of wound topical on the wound site itself to keep it clean/make sure it doesn't get infected; if he lets you check it at some point. :) Just on the site though, maybe with an ear swap/something precise. Usually the nicks are too small to see; and stop bleeding almost immediately, so you might not be able to spot it.

It can take a few hours before the tickle from the drops dies down. If he's still shaking his head tomorrow, give the vet a call. But for now, just watch him. I really think this falls well within normal range. Hekitty sometimes shakes her head following ear drops for the better part of a day.

I think that this is normal based on the type of inflammation, but it should start to subside. Some cats hate anything in their ears and will over react to drops. We use Surolan all the time and I find that it works very well and quickly, so if you don't see an improvement, I would call the vet.

May I ask how many days do you usually use it on your cat? The vet told me to use it twice a day for 10 days.

Five drops both ears, twice daily until it is gone. I suspect that the dosage might vary with the severity of the condition.
