Wasn't sure if this belonged in nutrition or behaviour...

I realized that wet food for me is more expensive by itself so I had to come up with a solution. I decided to blend one 125g can of my cats wet food with half a cup of dry food. That way, it stretches. So, instead of feeding two cans a day, I'm technically only feeding one can and it usually last a day and a half or more when blended with the magic bullet. I also add water.

Anyway, my main problem is that my female cat will not eat the glop as I call it. She has starved herself so I had to open up a whole other can just for her. She will eat the wet food on its own and the dry food on its own but when I blend it together, all of a sudden it is nasty. My male cat eats it perfectly fine and actually enjoys it.

What is going on?

Female cat has no teeth by the way and can't really eat the dry food without chocking. She also can't eat the wet food with large meat chunks which is also why I blend it.

Usually dry food lays longer in the stomach than wet food. The wetfood will be digested first and than after a while the dry food. That can cause a stomachache for some cats. I would recommend soaking the dryfood in water to make it softer and try feeding wetfood in the morning and soaked dryfood in the evening. Maybe that would also help reduce your cost on canned food.

Hmm… okay. I will try that. I just don't like feeding dry food by itself because I know it's not the best for them. Especially being senior cats.

It's an individual cat thing. I tried the same thing with Feeby, more to get extra calories in her since she completely stopped eating dry food and I am having trouble keeping her calorie count up with canned only. Feeby refused to eat the mixture.

Now, I will admit in Feeby's case, she is just plain off of any dry food right now. But, I bet if she were eating dry, she still would not be into the mixture. She, also only eats pate style canned - so no meat chunks for her either.

What if you use something other than her standard canned food to mix with the dry? Baby food meats and/or bone broth. I haven't tried that with Feeby, but I might if need be down the road.

Are you also pulverizing the dry first - I mean literally pulverizing it?

I will have to try the meat baby food and bone broth as well, thank you.

Same problem with me. Fayola isn't getting enough calories and I'd like her to gain a bit more weight. Nothing I feed her is enough. The only thing that helped was kitten dry food but we ran out. After that, she started losing weight.

I basically blend out the dry food to dust and then add the wet food. I tried doing the reverse and leaving whole chunks of dry in the glop but it doesn't change her perspective on it.
