Mixed bag. She’s not anemic and the rest of her CBC is great. No infection. Urine was very concentrated. So kidneys still work and she’s dehydrated. Nothing obvious in the oral exam. If there’s pain, it could be roots that are resorbing that they do not feel comfortable trying to remove. They will keep her at least another night and probably two nights. Im leaning towards an ultrasound on Monday if they can get one to come. It’s the weekend now so they might not be returning calls until Monday. I need to get my car serviced Monday. Especially if I have to drive Krista an hour or more for a veterinary dentist. And on top of it all, I may be coming down with something. 🤒 While the cat’s away, this mouse may sleep the whole weekend. 😔

I hope you feel better! It's that time of the year, people are getting sick already :( And best of luck with Krista, hopefully she'll be good and hydrated and feeling good when she comes home.

I did make it out of bed to head back down and visit with her. I’m glad I got to see her. She’s still got a lot of spark in her. Her file has caution and aggressive and may bite. But once she heard my voice, her hisses turned to soft meows. And then this happened.

She's back from the hospital and not much has changed with her eating. I'm so frustrated with these doctors. I told them on Friday my concern was her mouth and I'd like mouth x-rays. The Fri-Sat doctor did not do new films and instead relied on last month's films. Dang it! Something has changed from last month and that's why she's here! That's what I said to the Sunday-Monday doctor. Sure enough, it sounds like her last remaining canine has gotten worse with a pocket or shadow on the x-ray that suggests inflammation or infection. But they are not comfortable working on her mouth. But if the Friday doctor had taken mouth films when I asked her to, maybe we could have put Baytril in her IV for the weekend. Now I don't want to start her on antibiotics when she's already barely eating. The other option is a low dose of prednisilone to help with the inflammation. I may take this option because she's not eating nearly enough and I can take all the help I can get. She likes the homemade and that gets about 1/4 ounce at a time in her. But I think she would need about 6 oz a day and I don't know that she will take 24 feedings per day. So the math isn't working out. She needs to eat more!

I spent the morning calling around to the board certified veterinary dentists in the area. Of which, there are very few and very far between. The wait times also range from 1 month (mid-November) to nearly six months out (April!) I managed to find one two hour away (in a fantasy world with no traffic) with an appointment next week (how on earth?!?!) at 7:30am (ah! now it makes sense!) Fortunately, Krista is good with hotel rooms so we've got a two night vacation next week with a dental consultation mixed in there. We'll likely have to return in two weeks for whatever procedure is recommended. But that's still sooner than the next soonest appointment I have for her. She has two more backup appointments booked for Nov and Dec.

That's very good news about the dentist and appointments. And as for the pred, I've gone that route before with a sick cat and feel it was helpful.

I also have an Assisi Loop. Since she spends a lot of time in her trees these days, I taped one of them to the underside of her sleeping platform. The next time she goes into that tree for a nap, I can turn the Loop on from underneath instead of placing the Loop over a reluctant Krista's head and shoulders just to have her shift around and walk out of it. Fortunately, she has to ball up pretty nicely to fit into this tree which puts her almost completely within its effective field. Hopefully. That's the plan anyway. I will drop in on the vet's office later today. She just got to sleep and I don't want to wake her up again with a phone call.

In other news, she ate half an ounce this last meal. That puts her at 1 oz today. Only five more ounces to go today. Sadly, I'm not sure she's going to take much more until dinner. We're kind of in peak napping time right now. It's like asking to me to take meals at 2am and 4am.

I'd be happy if she finishes the day with 4 oz. I think that's the bare minimum as in 3% of her body weight. So that's my goal for today. To get her to four ounces. It's something we can build off of.

I heard about the Assisi Loop from Lil BUB, who has received a great benefit from hers! That's a really great idea you have about placing it. As for her food, one step at a time, yes?

Lil BUB was on a very aggressive Loop schedule. She was also more cooperative. Krista doesn't seem to "feel" the Loop or understand that it is for her benefit. Nearly every time, she'll let me place it. And nearly every time, she'll end up walking out from under it before the 15 minute session is done. I don't know if it overstimulates her or she just doesn't care for the physical object resting on her. I stopped using it with her when she had clostridium because we have an unanswered question about whether the Loop is speeding up transit time. The excellent tech support folks at Assisi Animal Health said it was possible that as her gut heals, things go wonky before they get better. We've done loose stools before. If it's just a little softer or a one-off liquid poop, no big deal. As long as this doesn't re-open the clostridium gates of hell!

Another half ounce. 1.5 oz down and 2.5 to go. Also a soft poop. I'm thinking that's a holdover from the IV fluids, the isoflurane gas, the bupe, and whatever she did nibble yesterday. I also gave her a Capstar last night. She came home scratching and covered in what looks like flea eggs. All my flea combs must be defective because I only ever see eggs in her coat and no fleas or larvae in the comb. The flea comb isn't even picking the eggs out of her coat. Fortunately, while she was away in the hospital, I had presence of mind to do another vacuuming and spray the place with IGR premise spray. I am washing the bedding from last night. Hopefully we'll be no worse off than before her stay at the world's worst spa. She got fluids, B-vitamins, and updated radiology, but she's definitely leaving a one-star yelp. "Bathroom inside bedroom. Curtains were always closed. Buffet was changed only once or twice a day. Can't escape sounds and smells of other guests."

In her tree in the home office with the Loop taped underneath. I think she got most of the session before she left that perch. At least 2/3 (10 of the 15 minutes.)

Ask me again in a couple weeks I suppose. I feel like Krista hit the reset button on our flea situation. The Capstar should have killed any adults on her. The IGR spray should prevent any that hopped off from reproducing. But now we just have to wait for eggs to get vacuumed up or hatched and die from lack of food. Or maybe not. I haven't refreshed Krista's Advantage II because it seems like she has too much else going on to risk a reaction or any further loss of appetite.

I have been using Siphotrol and I can't tell you if I like it. It seems like I've been itching since August despite only ever seeing the evidence of our infestation in flea dirt pulled up by the lint roller every few days. If the fleas come roaring back over the next week, I'll have to do another round of Adv II on her.

We are getting close to cold enough nights to kill whatever may be in my car. But we're also having our usual Indian Summer and it may not be until next month that the car is finally clean. I just don't have the time or money to pay for a detailing when it costs me at least that much to walk into the vet's office these days. I am finally addressing a check engine light. The mechanic is telling me that certain parts are pricey. I ask, "how pricey?" and he says, "$150 to $200/each." I need two. I tell him, "still cheaper than the 'door charge'* at my vet. Don't waste time I don't have. Replace them both!"

*I figure at Krista's age and given her history, senior screen blood panel plus pancreatitis test is standard for just about every visit now which runs me $257.

I have a lot to go back and read on your thread to catch up - but after less than 3 months of treating the house with Adams Flea & Tick Spray for the first 1 1/2 months, and our 2nd round of Adv II at the beginning of September, the fleas are gone, gone, gone...

Feeby had all kinds of stuff going on with her eating/drinking/peeing/pooping throughout that time - all of now have pretty much dissipated. And, I know you have other issues with Krista, but once the fleas were eradicated, Feeby has kind of gone back to as much normal as I guess I can hope for. Did any of her issues relate to using Adv II, I don't know. But, her last dose on 10/1 has produced no side effects - even if the 2 previous ones did.

Get rid of those fleas - I am truly convinced that was about 90% of Feeby's problems. The other 10% can be attributed to what those fleas did to her on a long term basis.

I had serious problems with Adams product years ago, so will not use. I have always used, and trusted, Advantage. No other topical for my cats. Others I've tried have not been as effective. For the environment, I trust FleaBusters. It is a borax-based product that kills the eggs as well as other stages. It is highly effective used as directed, safe, and long-lasting.

Aside from yesterday, I believe they bother me more than her. She doesn’t seem bothered today, not itching, since the Capstar and a change of bedding.

Earlier in the summer, definitely she needed the mirtazapine to overcome the flea blues.

Today, she needs stronger pain relief than the buprenorphine is giving her. I am 96% certain her remaining teeth (or gums) are bothering her based on how she responds to medication.
