I rescued a kitten at my job and I could tell he was going to be long haired and now he’s turning smoky on his back and his belly and the back of his neck. He has big gold eyes, his tail hair is starting to get longer. I have no idea how old he is but I’m guessing about 3 months. Posted pics.

Good for you! You going to keep him or put him up for adoption? Please get him checked by the vet and neutered.

When I lived in So Cal I rescued a whole litter of kittens living in my work parking lot. They were terribly infested with fleas. Mom was feral, we TNR'd her and all the kittens were taken care of and now have loving homes.

I have kept him after trying to rehome him and have named him Coby. I just want to know what kind of kitty he is. I plan to take him to the vet and get him fixed soon. That’s a great story of the kitty rescue. I have rescued a lot of animals in my time .

What a lucky little boy to have someone rescue and take care of him. He makes me think of my cat Maggie rescued 3 months old. I took her to petco but could not let her go. So glad I didnt. Lots of fun. Even though she was runt of the litter, she kept growing and growing til she was 3 inches longer from base of tail and 2 inches taller than my other cats. They do not like Maggie chasing them!

So what type of kitty is yours? I am wondering with his coloring etc if he might be Maine coon or Norwegian forest or domestic long hair. So glad you enjoy your kitty and Didn’t get rid of her at petco. Coby loves playing with my other kitty Jeffrey.

I think she is a classic tabby, black with grey stripes on the side, short haired. Long and skinny with curvy hips. Good poser.

He'll probably be pure black when it's all said and done. Black cats who have been sick can get a frosted "fever coat". It can take a long time to fully grow out, so enjoy his frostiness while it lasts! He's lovely.

Very cute!
His coat could turn out to be solid black, or black smoke. Hard to tell at that age. It could be what's termed a fever coat, which means the mom was ill when he was born which effects the color of the fur, most noticable in black cats. As he gets older and his coat grows in, it could start becoming more black in color. Will be a "wait and see".

He is not a Maine Coon though. His ear set isn't quite right for one nor his face structure although he does have some nice ear tufting going on there. I'd say he's a domestic medium hair at this point. Most cats are no particular breed and it's highly unlikely anyway that a purebreed cat would be found just randomly let alone a kitten. Regardless, he's just adorable and his fur is very unique looking. Perhaps it will remain that color which would be fantastic!

FYI, we have a purebred black/black smoke one we got in September. We are also still waiting to see exactly how her fur will turn out too as she has a lot of that silver/gray in her currently but I've noticed now that she's nearly 6 months old it seems to be getting more black in areas but still has gray tones in others. Here is a photo of her just so you can make a comparison in the way one looks and, for coat color reference. This particular photo really shows off her coloring, ears and muzzle which the breed is known for. This was taken about 5 weeks ago though, and her coat has darkened somewhat since then.
