Her owners only fed her meow mix dry cat food :ohwell: and on top of that she was never brushed so if course she sheds a lot right now. The only time I can get is her sit down on me is when I am brushing her so I guess she likes being brushed.

Today she sat down on me voluntarily, so I figured she trusts me more and tried to cut her claws. I got 1 front paw done + 2 claws on her other front paw without her struggling or anything, and then she went away to groom herself. I cut about 2 millimeters from each claw. I would call that a pretty successful attempt :)
Edit: I forgot to say I was giving her treats throughout the whole process

That's MAJOR success, MojoTuxedo MojoTuxedo !!! My cats who have lived with and trusted me for years will not let me do that many at one time! Just make sure you stay well away from the pink part closest to her paw -- that's the quick, just like on our nails, and you don't want to cut that. A styptic pencil (available at drugstores) is good to keep on hand just in case -- it quickly stops bleeding. You're doing GREAT! *and so is she!*

Thanks! I already know not to cut the quick and I was very far from cutting it. I will ask my dad to buy some styptic powder or a styptic pencil, though we probably won’t need it because I am very careful with this kind of stuff.
Mojo was so nice. The first (and only) time I clipped his claws he let me clip all of them.
Also I actually am allergic to cats, but it’s very mild and only if they scratch/bite me so I have to be really nice to them ;) (but I would be equally as nice to them anyway)
I’m going to attempt to cut some of her claws again tomorrow.
Another thing is today we figured out she can open doors 😂 My dad left the door a tiny bit open when he was filling her water, and when he came back she was waiting outside the door for him

Well, it's no more than they deserve;):winkcat: but there are a lot of Rx/OTC drugs, plus a new injection, I've heard, for people with cat allergies!
Yes, some cats are very patient with their humans. I've experienced this many times. :angelcat:

I tried giving her some toys and she won’t play with them, even after I added catnip. She just watches them. Her old owners never played with her with toys. Is it normal for a 3 year old cat to not play?

Well, my poppycat really, really has to be in the mood, or he does the same thing and just looks at the toy as it rolls or slides past him.

But in her case, it may simply take time, repeated attempts and your happy-voice :)

GOOD ON YOU for brushing and for getting all of her claws clipped! That's a major win!
Since she was neglected, she may never have had any experience with toys. Many cats who have lived on the streets and been deprived don't have any knowledge of toys. In time, she may investigate and decide she likes catnip, and toys. A wand-and-lure interactive toy, such as Cat Dancer or da Bird, may appeal to her (they do to most cats) and will help strengthen your bond. It doesn't matter if she doesn't want to become extremely active -- just a short session with a toy like this can work magic! and is a good thing to do every day or as often as possible.
As for her fur, having had such a poor diet and being neglected, I'm not surprised she would be shedding so much. Look for her fur to improve as she enjoys a high quality diet, fresh water, and lots of love.

My dad got a furminator. Today I brushed her with it and twice the fur as yesterday came out. I think she likes being brushed with it too.
When she eats, she will only lick her food so I have to keep adding water. And if I give her dry food she licks it until she gets it into her mouth and swallows it whole.
She is eating simply nourish food right now. Is that ok? I change her water every few hours but I almost never see her drinking it.

Furminator thins the undercoat and removes all dead hair. It's a great tool. I use it occasionally on longhaired cats, but for daily use, I use a cat slicker brush.
Yes, Simply Nourish is good food. You don't need to change her water more than once a day unless she's getting bits of food in it. Just wash the bowl daily and fill it with cool, fresh water. Cats in the wild don't drink a lot of water as they get most of their moisture from their (mainly small rodent) prey. She may be getting her needs fulfilled from her wet food and she may be drinking when you don't see her doing it. I have several bowls in different places in the house for my cats, and I have a cat fountain, which they do use and love. Ours is a basic Drinkwell fountain. It filters the water. You take it apart and clean it weekly, and replace the filter every few weeks as needed, rinsing it weekly. Catit makes a nice fountain that's easily maintained and affordable. There are many brands of filters available at "pet" supply stores such as Petco, PetSmart, etc., online on amazon, etc., and through manufacturers. You may want to visit hauspanther.com and see links to quite a few different types/designs/price ranges.

She is shorthair but her fur is a lot more dense than Mojo’s.

If she's getting food in it she may be drinking. And yeah, some cats' undercoats are VERY thick. Our beloved Nicolas had a white undercoat that shed like crazy, 24/7.

I know it’s only been a few days since we got the cat, but I’m losing motivation to take care of her, or my other pets. The only reason I haven’t stopped taking care of them is because it would be cruel. I was excited when we got her the first day and second day but today I feel like doing nothing. I still want to take care of my pets but I don’t feel like I have energy to do it. I am still doing the minimum for my hamster, gerbils and fish but not taking care of them like I used to and none of my family members know how to take care of them so all of the burden is on me.

It's been really intense for you these past few days.

Try taking a break by going for a walk, exercise, listen to music, -something, whatever it takes, that really, literally takes your mind off of every single thing that's animal related for a little bit.

You'll come back refreshed, and that will be better for all of you :)
