Make my own EZ Complete?

I love the idea of EZ Complete. Unfortunately the chicken liver and the inclusion of digestive enzymes both make my Krista double over in digestive pain after. (Who's eating who?!)

My current supplement stack for homemade is powdered calcium, powdered E, powdered taurine, powdered kelp (iodine), and I have egg yolk powder, freeze-dried liver, and freeze-dried heart. If I grind all the ingredients fine enough in a spice grinder I dedicate only to this purpose, and I combine the ingredients for a 1 lbs batch, can I then further divide this powder by 10 and balance 45 g at a time like EZ Complete? Would I just be producing "hot spots" in the mix because I can't ensure a uniform blending of the ingredients? Would that matter over time since she'll eventually eat it all? Is there a flowing agent (like a lecithin for dry ingredients?) that I can add to my powder mix to make it more uniform?

Thanks in advance!

I can't comment on the total weight of the mix per 1 lb. of meat. That would totally depend on the combined weight of all the supplements required to add to 1 lb. of meat. If EZ Complete is 45 grams per pound, I highly doubt that your homemade mix is going to weigh exactly the same as EZ Complete. But I don't see why you can't combine all the supplements required (to add to 10 lbs of meat) up into powdered form and just use a sealed jar or baggie and shake everything up really well, then divide into 10 individual packs. I think the mix would end up uniform. Or, to play it extra safe, just leave the entire batch as one and weigh out what you need as you need it. Just give it a good shake each time right before you weigh it out.

I think it’s fine nutrition wise to not have it completely uniform, but if your kitty gets a big chunk of liver over a day or two they might experience some yummy upset so it’s probably best to try and make it uniform.

I think when mschauer mschauer was initially writing recipes she actually did it by creating a mixed powder that you add a little of to each meal. That’s what is done with this recipe that she helped write and analyze:

edit: I meant to say “tummy upset” but “yummy upset” is also accurate.

What I meant is that if my powder mix per 1 lbs of meat comes out to, say 20 grams of total powder and there are 454 grams in a lbs of meat, then to balance a 45 g portion, I would use 2 grams of my powder.

My biggest concern here is that liver and heart will make up the bulk of that powder. Kelp will be almost nothing. Unless I could grind all the ingredients really fine and use some kind of flowing agent, she could get all the iodine (kelp) in one meal and then nothing the rest of the batch. I really want the ease of being able to cut up 45 grams of raw meat or cooked meat, shake in some powder, and then feed that over a meal or three depending on how well she's eating that day.

I guess another option would be to mix the macro and micro ingredients separately.

Heart, liver, and egg yolk will all require significantly more powder than calcium, taurine, E, and kelp. So perhaps I make up one mix of heart, liver, and yolk powder, and another bag will contain the rest. Once I've measured out each mix to balance 1 lbs of meat, then I can divide each into either 10 servings or figure out the scoop needed, storing both in the fridge, and mixing at feed time.

I don't see any reason to not make a batch of your supplements and then use the correct amount given the amount of meat. That is what I do!

I worried about the supplements not being uniformly mixed throughout also. My solution was to put the supplements in a jar large enough to have a good bit of extra space. After first adding all the supplements and again before scooping some out for use, I just thoroughly shake the jar in various directions. I feel that gets everything distributed pretty well.

I believe a flow agent is to prevent clumping. I'm not sure they do anything to ensure ingredients are uniformly mixed.
