With the updates done to this site, there is now an obnoxious message stating TheCatSite would like my permission to enable push notifications. Sorry if this is language/terminology every one else understands, but I don't and I don't know where to find out what this is. I am not saying yes to something I have no idea what it is.

Sorry about the confusion!
Push notifications are a very common technology these days. It started with phones and is now commonly used in websites that serve dynamic content. It's simply a way to get your notifications even when you're not actively browsing the site.

It's totally ok to say no to push notifications. They are useful for people who want to make sure they get an immediate alert for content that they follow. I use that feature on a few select apps and sites - where I want to see any responses as they come in. Otherwise, I decline them. Email notifications are unaffected by this, so feel free to say no and forget about that.

I hope this helps!

I selected the "Never Ask Again' option regarding push notifications, and yet each and every time I log on I get the same request for my permission to enable them.

The banner at the bottom of my screen when I log on is where I am selecting "Never Ask Again" - and there is no 'Save'. So, I am guessing if you don't actually go into "Preferences" and physically unmark the boxes, you are only stopping the push notifications for that particular 'log on' session only.

I looked in "Preferences" and all the boxes are marked to accept them, but I am not getting them - apparently, because of me selecting the "Never Ask Again" option at time of log on (I always log on and off - never leave site open when I am not using it). Best way I know how to explain it, so hope it makes sense.

I'm not getting them or any kind of notice about them when I log in, but I clicked "Push Notifications Blocked" and "Saved" under Preferences. You could try that.

Is this still happening for you? I did the "never ask again" on my desktop" just now and logged in and out a few times and it didn't come back.

Yes, it is still happening. Every time I log in I get the notification banner at the bottom of the screen about enabling Push Notifications (also using a desktop, not a phone), and every time I click on "Never Ask Again". After logging out, and later logging back in, the notification banner is once again at the bottom of the screen.

In preferences, the Enable Push Notifications 'box' is not checked, but all the individual option boxes underneath remain checked for both Alert and Push Notifications. I doubt this has anything to do with it, but I could test it by 'unchecking' all the individual boxes to just to see.

What exactly does this statement mean, as well: "Enabling push notifications requires a supported device. Enabling push notifications will enable them for this device only. If you log out of this device, you will need to re-enable push notifications." It is noted right underneath the Enable Push Notification 'box' in Preferences.

Thanks.

Sometimes when I log out and back in, it isn't there. This morning I'd cleared the cache on my computer and when I logged back in to TCS, the notice was there.

What happens if you uncheck "Restore dismissed notices" under Preferences? It's right above "Push Notifications Blocked". Does that make a difference? I don't recall unchecking it when I clicked Push Notifications Blocked and Save, but I may have.

That's already unchecked for me.
I don't even see that option for a regular account, so I guess that's not the problem. :dunno:

I've been logging in and out the past few days (something I don't normally do) and I'm not getting the notification banner.

FeebysOwner FeebysOwner It wouldn't hurt to try unchecking those Push boxes and clicking Save, and it might possibly help. This is also new to us, so we're experimenting with how it works, too.

FeebysOwner FeebysOwner what operating system and browser are you using? The admins will most likely need that info to trouble shoot.

Do you have the option? I just looked at my regular test account, and it isn't there. Odd. :headscratch:
Yes, I have that option in Preferences, and just like betsygee betsygee , it is already unchecked. You may not see it in your test account, if you have push notifications enabled, perhaps? Just guessing.
