  • Just said a prayer for Moogy. I named this Calico Mookie. I am blessed to have 3 amazingly healthy rug rats-one is eighteen. I bet salt is bad for cats blood pressure? Beware of anything in Moogys diet that may be inflammatory like corn. None of my cats has ever eaten it in any form. I want 15 cats (shelter rescues) some day, but just a few sick ones would bankrupt me. Better stick with just 3.
May Moogy have a long life! I bet soft music would soothe him? My cats love music.

Please pray for my moggy! He started limping quite badly on Thursday. He went to the vet's today and he was growling and hissing so much that they decided to give him X-rays under sedation tomorrow. He hisses when touched in the lumbar area when he's walking, but he shows no signs of pain when touched in that area when at rest.

We went to the vet today. The vet said it is likely spinal lymphoma. He said that most cats deteriorate in a matter of weeks :'( They wanted to do an MRI ascertain exactly what is going on but given his condition I don't want him to die under general anesthesia. I just want him to be home with me. Please pray for us. I am devastated. :'(

I know you said there is no radiotherapy in the country but there's chemotherapy for spinal lymphoma according to Spinal lymphoma in cats | Vetlexicon Felis from Vetstream | Definitive Veterinary Intelligence

Did you discuss with the vet if what Moggy has might be something treatable? Because in that case MRI is needed for a survival chance.

Thanks, MissClouseau. The vet says cats with spinal lymphoma respond poorly to chemotherapy, so he said that chemotherapy isn't an option.

You said the vet said "it is likely spinal lymphoma." What are the chances that it is not? What else could it be? Do they think his blindness was also due to lymphoma? I ask because if it could be something else MRI could diagnose...

Hi there. I am sorry that you are going through this.

I am not a vet, but I am just wondering - if your cat has spinal lymphoma isn't it that the average life expectancy would be around 4-6 weeks only? Your cat seems to be having issues since July. I kindly suggest therefore that you get a second opinion. There is still a chance that it is not spinal lymphoma.

Sending my warmest of hugs and prayers.

They think his blindness is also due to lymphoma, that's why they put spinal lymphoma at the top of their suspicions. I asked if it means the lymphoma had spread, he said no, it was likely in two different locations. I read that 50% of cats with spinal lymphoma also have intercranial lymphoma (but not necessarily the other way round, I think). But he also said that he thought it was spinal lymphoma because of his age (12), but I've read multiple articles and they all say it mainly affects young cats (median age about 36 months).

Many thanks for your hugs and prayers! He has been having issues (blindness) in his eyes since July, but this lameness is new, just started last Thursday. I got another vet to look at the video and he said that if he is still alive in 3 weeks, it might be something else. I'll ask him if intervertebral disc disease is a possibility...

I'm sorry that we are talking about upsetting things like this but about a fatal disease, suspicion really doesn't feel enough when there is a test like MRI/x-ray to diagnose or eliminate the possibility.

If he has something else, he will go another 3 weeks without treatment if there is a treatment that is of course. I am not familiar with how fast lymphoma progresses but I know Moggy has been having health issues for months now and internet tells me once the lymphoma diagnosis is made, the lifespan without chemotherapy is 4-8 weeks on average. Moggy already passed that if his blindness started in July was due to lymphoma.

I am also wondering if his limping and lower pain is the result of a blindness-related accident that happened without you seeing it.

Thanks, MissClouseau. The thing is, he was so hostile and angry at the vet's (hissing and growling) that the vet couldn't examine him at all. They said sedation was not safe because they couldn't tell his health condition. If he is going to die, I don't want him to die stressed out, growling and hissing at the vets. I was wondering if it could be a blindness-related accident too, but the vets said that it's very unlikely.
It's true, it's been nearly 3 months since my moggy went blind, and he has had no deterioration of neurological signs unless you count the limping, which is a spinal cord instead of a brain issue. That makes me suspicious that it might not be lymphoma. Also, as I said in a previous post, spinal lymphoma is mainly a disease of young cats ( median age: 36 months), so that's at odds with what the vet said, that his age makes him think it's spinal lymphoma.
