@Catzmeow :flail:No more surprise grabs..... yet. I’m watching my back! I’ve just been very busy talking to others about cat organizations today. Looking into the legalities of some things too. The fun continues here though! Photos follow!

@tarasgirl06 I bought a toy that I wish I could video for you and M maggiedemi
It’s a paper butterfly that winds up with a rubber band. When you let it go it flies across the room. The cats love watching it. Of course it doesn’t taste any better than the painting but no butterflies are eaten. :) It was another treasure found at the dollar store!

I pulled out some of the kitties older toys today. I find that putting some away for awhile and thing bringing them back out renews interest in them. The kitties always have their individual favorites though. Especially Whistle!

Kodiak will play with anything and everything!

Whistle has favorites.

I'll have to check the dollar stores for cat toys for Demi & Maggie. They are so picky though. They seem to prefer the Yeowww banana over everything else. They do like toys on a stick too, since they love it when I play with them. Maybe that would be good light exercise for me.

M maggiedemi Here is the kind of butterfly I got. It’s actually made to put inside a book. Great if you have a friend who loves butterflies and books. If you give a book , you wind up the butterfly and put it inside the cover. When the recipient opens the book, the butterfly flies out. Maybe not a surprise for anyone who startles easily! ;)

Have you ever wondered how to amuse a feral kitten that does not have another kitten to play with?
Do you ever wonder what goes on in the mind of a kitten? I think it might go something like this if you interpret the body language of Wanda Heart. Maybe this is what she is thinking.

Lonely Wanda Heart? How about a Magic Carpet ride to find a friend? Look behind you.

What’s that?

 Oh my! That’s an accusing expression!

Wanda Heart may not understand how her mirror image friend appeared or stole the toy but the mouse did turn up again and play continued. My sweet feral kitten has a playmate. I think they will be friends from now on. Although it may be better for kittens to be adopted in pairs, if it isn’t possible, a lone kitten does not have to be lonely if we use a bit of creative thinking.

Have a happy night/morning everyone! :heartshape:

SO lovely, watching Wanda Heart become a "real" kitten!

Sorry I haven't been on here much lately, but I have been busy getting everything ready for winter- all that fun stuff like scraping, sanding, and painting; getting the snow blower prepped, and cleaning up the flower beds.
I am glad that Wanda Heart is mixing with the other residents, and seems to be putting on weight. What a difference from that first night!
I tried that mirror trick with Miss Eleanor, and she actually hissed at the image and swiped at it with her paw- quite a different reaction from Wanda Heart's.
I don't know if you have any of these, but our cats go crazy over them. Michele gets them at one of the dollar stores.

 me too!

I actually put one of those round pipe insulator things under my stove so they would quit going in there, I do have to go around the house looking for toys under everything still!
Those springs are pretty popular, didn't know they had them at the dollar store.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 That’s a great way to build strength. Da bird exercises! :) Maybe there should be a cat and Da bird exercise program.

Avery Avery She is a precious girl. Watching her play always makes me happy. I’m so grateful she recovered. It was kind of rough going for her the first couple of weeks. She is a tough one but has the most fun now! She takes on everything.

N NY cat man I am very glad to hear from you. I was hoping you were just busy. Getting ready for Winter must be pretty complex there. I remember what it was like where I used to live. Not as intense as many places but much worse than here. I once lived on a hill that had a clay road. When it got wet and then froze, you could leave but you couldn’t go back! Lol We tended to just stay put a lot.
I think the mirror trick worked with Wanda Heart because she is still a kitten. Play time!!!!
The before and after photos of her certainly show a difference. ;)

The very start.

Her little face looks so much better.:redheartpump:
I see those spring toys here on the site but never found one at the stores here. I’ll be looking though.

CL56 CL56 Magic oven? These cats would love that! I have a feeling that if we had one it would just produce frogs.

W walli The cats here take everything that is too big to carry under the sofa for smaller toys, they drop them behind the refrigerator. Every time I move anything, I find cat toys. For awhile the kitties thought it was fun to put EVERY cat toy in the kitty pool. Now they prefer the pools as beds. :dunno:

Sending out vibes, hopes, good wishes and prayers that all in the flood zones are safe and without damage.
:vibes::heartshape:

I often suggest that cages and carriers be used as a place of refuge for feral kitties that are being socialized. I find that using them as a place the kitties feel safe works wonders and makes the kitties easy for me to access when needed. I am often reminded by the kitties that they love their houses long after they have become inside kitties. Today was no exception. Muffin and Banjo both wanted to be inside one of the large cages. They are so smart!!

Muffin was in the cage but Banjo was giving her the ,” it’s my turn” look.

I would swear that cats are capable of teleporting themselves to anywhere they wish to go. Or at least it would seem so.
September is always one of my busiest months, what with the change of seasons and all, and if you believe in the wooly bears, this winter is going to be a real humdinger. The ones that I have seen so far have been almost totally black, with just a very thin band of orange in the middle. We shall see.

I think you're right! We are going to get nailed this winter. I can't imagine what that's like in New York. I'm in the midwest, and here 'getting nailed' means 6" of snow. It's been several years since I've seen any "real" snow - I'm kind of looking forward to it! I feel badly for you northerners, though, when the winters are rough. I will look forward to some beautiful pictures!

Around here, getting 'nailed' means a foot or more. We have Lake Erie to our southwest, and Lake Ontario to our north, so depending on the wind direction, we can get lake effect snow from either way. We can even get lake effect from Lake Huron or Georgian Bay.

Hek's favorites are Da Bird, Da Bee, and the Cat Dancer. ALL of which (if you are very clever) can resemble the motions of different prey...bird, bee, and of all things, a moth (Cat Dancer).

Goodness yes, prayers and candle lit for those in flood zones!

N NY cat man I know! Cats can be invisible when they chose to as well. Mine manage to transport themselves instantly into the kitchen from all parts of the house. We watch the Wooly Bears too. I haven’t seen any this year though. I wonder what that means?!?!?
It may be a little early yet for them here.
In your location you really can get nailed. Beautiful but intimidating if you aren’t used to it. I suppose our environment could be difficult for some in the swampy summers. Lol

Buffster7 Buffster7 A lot of areas did not have their normal snowfall last year. Maybe you’ll get enough to enjoy it this year. 6” isn’t too bad. I do love how a fresh snowfall changes everything. The pristine white. I love to see the snow before any footprints mar the surface.
It always seems odd to see palms in snow though.

M maggiedemi BJ does look kind of like Teddy Ruxpin! :flail:That was a good one!

Wanda Heart is fitting in with the girls. Callie is the most welcoming. She has always been the first in that group to help new kitties to adjust. Have you seen the picture of her the day I was able to pick her up to come in? She had never seen snow and she had walked over to a stump and just stayed there. She was too cold and scared to move once she got there. When I observed that, I knew I had a chance to get her. When I approached her .....

Help! The rain is white and I can’t put my tail down!
ABCFC663-B9CD-4D5A-B055-30DD558489B8.jpeg

I brought her straight into the house and wrapped her in a blanket. Been holding her ever since. I brought quite a few kitties in over the next few days.

Muffin is only 12 lbs. She is all muscle though. That is a very strong kitty! She is dwarfed by her brothers though.

rubysmama rubysmama Lol I got quite a laugh out of the magic trick that Muffin and Banjo performed. I was as surprised as Muffin was. I have no idea where Banjo was hiding. I think that frog has taught her some tricks.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 I am like M maggiedemi
We have not tried Da bird or da bee but I know the cats would love those. With all these kitties, I would be trying to make Da bird fly a lot! I wonder what would happen if they all chased it at once? I might be in the middle of a stampede! :flail:

We aren’t having such hot nights and the kitties seem to sense the changing of the seasons. Indoors or out, they know that Winter is just around the corner.
