tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - I do hate it. I find it to be extremely rude. Sometimes I'm talking and mid sentence, the other person just takes their phone out and starts doing whatever. And what I noticed is that most of the time, they aren't even doing anything important. Just scrolling through instagram, liking pictures.

Yeah. I had a friend who'd just give me blank looks if she wasn't interested in what I was saying, and abruptly start talking about something else. Unfortunately, I haven't talked to that friend in awhile. Miss her. But not that rudeness.

Sounds poorly planned. I empathize. And don't you hate that? I really love going out to dinner and the other person has a screen on their nose the entire time. NOT SOCIAL.
I had to train someone last week and she spent most of the time on her phone while I was trying to explain what to do. Phones are great and all, and I'm not going to pretend I'm not on mine a lot, but people should know when to put theirs down. It's rude even if that's not the person's intention.

Graceful-Lily Graceful-Lily I'm sorry you felt left out:grouphug2: I think that's something we all can relate to. It sucks.

I had the most exhausting day ever... the campus is a pain to navigate because they don't put up enough signs for you to tell which building is which or which building is in which direction. On top of that, there are like... 2 bathrooms for that entire campus (not literally of course) but they are so spaced out, it's hard to find and I have bladder issues so I was in so much pain running around trying to find a bathroom. The set up, structurally of certain parts of the school isn't convenient or functional. For example, placing a stall in the corner of a bathroom (the walls are at a weird angle) and putting the hand dryer merely inches away from said stall. Embarrassing and ridiculous.

I thought going to orientation would help me make friends but everyone completely ignored me when we were all waiting for class to start. They were on their phones or talking to other people - I kind of felt left out.

Anyway, we'll just have to see. I hope things get better.
I'm sure things will improve. First days are always crazy. I'm sure the people who already knew each other were playing catch-up and the ones on their phones? not much anyone can do about that. Maybe start up a converse with someone?

:hugs::hugs:

Shane is back in the hospital. He had fluid on his brain. He'll stay there until his surgery and probably for a while after.
Oh no. Was he at home? Have they moved in yet? Perhaps it is best that he stays in the hospital till the surgery.

On a brighter note, I finally was able to get an Impossible Whopper. I am impressed. The patty had the texture of ground beef and was perfectly cooked. It is about a dollar more than a Whopper, but is very close in every way.
I still haven't tried one. I talked to 2 vegetarians who have tried it. My brother never has liked meat, he says it tasted too much like meat, lol. My friend, who enjoyed burgers before she became vegetarian, said it wasn't quite the same. But it could be due to differences in location/preparation.

They had just gotten moved. So at least he was close to the hospital and his whole family is nearby now.

Oh, no! Is this from pre-surgical procedures? Or just an occurance?

:vibes::vibes::vibes: Triple shot of vibes
Just an occurrence. He got an infection from the shunt so they had to remove it. So now they have to manually remove the fluid each time there's an issue.

Prayers to Shane!

My main problem with ANY vegan meat substitute is that they load up whatever they use for it with yeast extract and flavors. Those are some major sources of monosodium glutamate, which has been my main migraine trigger for almost 20 years now. If they could make something without MSG, I'd be really willing to try it because I keep hearing nothing but good things about the Impossible meat brand.

Not a hamburger fan, of any kind, but really glad these and other meatless mocks are available as alternatives for those who are. I used to like the Morning Star Farms ones until they became unaffordable for me. There were a couple of other brands I also enjoyed, Boca and Gardenburger. All of these are vegetarian but not vegan.

I like Gardenburgers but I don't like the original Boca burger. I don't really like the ones that try to taste like meat most of the time---I like the ones that are unapologetically veggie. Like spicy black bean patties or Gardenburgers. Plus, I like Whoppers for the other elements, not the meat, lol. I love a big sloppy burger with all the condiments dripping out. So as long as the "meat" gives it some structure it's probably fine.

I'm the same way. I was excited about the Beyond Meat burger coming to Canada, but when I saw them in the stores, they looked way to much like raw meat! I did end up barbecuing one, and it was just ok, probably because it was too meat-like.

I like black bean burgers too, and make my own. The only problem with homemade ones, is that they tend to fall apart.

I love the black bean ones! I used to buy the Morning Star Farms spicy black bean burgers until the price got too high. Sometimes bread crumbs can be helpful in sticking other things together. I've used those for veggie loaf (with lentils, onions, celery, spices) and it works fairly well.

This is my last post for a bit, as Dorian closes in, and conditions are beginning to deteriorate. I wrote this and posted it here a couple of years ago, it seems appropriate to re-post it now!

The Storm

There's a storm coming,

O my Sisters...

The wind moans and whines, running

restless, anxious fingers through the trees

And the trees shiver and sigh in response.

There's a storm coming,

O my Darlings...

Not a bird in the sky

Not a creature scampers or

Runs or crawls

All gone to earth in the Deep Wood.

There's a storm coming,

O my Brothers...

Look you to the South and West!

See them there?

Dark gray bodies writhing and roiling,

Riding high, the Storm Dragons come!

Lightning is the fire they breathe, and

Thunder is their roar!

There's a storm coming...

O!

Comes the storm...
