I'm so tall though, 5'9. Today I'm supposed to meet with my caseworker or call her, but my mom won't give me my folder. I had to email my brother and see if he can get the name out of her. She doesn't want me to get a medical bed, but I need it to get better. She said there is no room. This is a huge old house, but she is a hoarder and would rather have her boxes of junk than get me a bed. Today is the last day to talk to Medicaid or I'm in trouble.
For the pillow, I am 5'8'. I think it could help a ton. You can hug it as you go up and down off the toilet. Can you get a kitchen chair, to place in front of the toilet, back towards you. You can grab onto the top of the back of the chair or the back of the chair to help you up.. or even a 'high" toilet seat attachment.

Can you call the hospital? telling them that you misplaced your records and need to get in touch with your case manager? or ask them to have the case manager contact you.. Can the doctor, one of the nurses on the floor you were on, help you?

There are usually Patient Advocates on each floor, whose job it is to help patients. Just explain the situation. They will understand. They are very understanding of a ton of things, you may be embarrassed to admit.

The cane? is it wood or is it metal? The metal ones have adjustments on the side, so you can make it longer, for your height.. if not Your MOM needs to return it and replace it with an appropriate one..

If you need a hospital BED, then GET one!! You need it in order to recuperate and become healthy!
Please think of yourself. We love you..

Oh, Honey: (I mean it)
Please pardon me, and do not take this the wrong way:
But, it sounds to me that you MOM is HIJACKING your health. She is making it almost impossible for you to recover and become healthy, both physically and emotionally.

You need to speak to your case worker. You NEED MEDICAID!
You Need Health Insurance. We all do.. please..

First step: call he hospital for help. Tell them that you were a patient in there, was discharged and desperately need to get in touch with your case worker. You "lost" the contact information. It may take a few phone calls, and a few forwarding calls, but you can do this. I believe in you.. I really do.. and I say it with LOVE for an EXCEPTIONAL person--YOU..

I am so sorry I am coming across really harsh.. M maggiedemi , You are such a kind hearted, sweet, caring person, who needs support.. You need help. We all love you..
We are supporting you 150% towards your goal. You need to start thinking of what is good for you, your future and your kitties future. This is the time to do so.

You have to have YOUR own RECORDS. You cannot allow your mother to take such control over you. I know it is very hard. and so much easier to say than do.. but the time is now..

Can you enlist the help of your brother with regards to your mother?

Sweetie,
It took a near death experience... You came out of it for a reason, a purpose. You need to find that reason. You want to live, and not be controlled or be in prison in your own house.

Please do not backslide. After having gone through and currently going through a horrible situation, do not stumble in your determination to get well. You want to get well. You deserve to be well... and you also Deserve all the help you can get. There are tons of people wanting to help. You just need to stay strong and ask for it.

I hope I have not said anything to stop you from continuing to keep in touch with us.

If I have gone too far, I apologize. I mean it. I love you.. You have so many people loving, and caring for you. Please do not throw it away. We will always be here for you.

I scare Demi a lot. He doesn't know why his mama tries to jack herself out of bed with a cane
He will get over it. Try to take a toy to bed with you. He is probably afraid of the cane.. try to make a toy or game out of it.. let him sniff it.. he will come around. He loves you...

no more morphine
Morphine is pretty strong stuff. No wonder you could not follow instructions. It is very powerful, and addicting. Yes, there needs to be a note in your chart about how you react with it. There are other drugs that and e use din substitute for severe pain.

M maggiedemi Please keep in touch.
Just ignore me and what I said, if it is to upsetting. I do not mean to do so.

I want to support you, and get you the help you so desperately need. What I have said is out of love..

((((Hugs)))) keep in touch on here.. please.. do not go away, again.

love and more love. You were in my prayers today.. at Mass and will continue to be...

It's black metal cane with a soft foam on the handle and 4 little feet.

Yes! I got my medical folder. I had to demand it. I told my Mom she is denying me Medical care which is against the law. I had to be brave, it was so hard. But I got my folder, my appointment with Medicaid is on Friday. Mom admitted that she was never going to give me my folder because she didn't want them to arrest her for the condition of the house. But my brothers are coming to help remodel the bathroom and get out the black mold. They said they know how to do it quite affordably and would have sooner if they knew how bad it was. We are going to rent dumpsters too and clean out the house from the hoarding.

If you are in severe pain and cannot take morphine, ask about dilaudid. It's another opioid for severe pain. My Sis couldn't take morphine but could take dilaudid.
And the toilet seat attachment is an excellent suggestion that slipped my mind. I got one of these for my dad when he was in a wheelchair and it was very helpful for him to just slide out of the chair onto the seat. His arms/upper torso were where his strength was, so he could do this.
There are adjustable canes with 3 feet on the bottom for stability.
You should be able to ask for these things as durable medical equipment, the same as the hospital bed. You use them while you need them and they pick them up when you're done using them (not sure about the seat, but the bed, definitely, and probably the cane, too).
That's very good that your brothers are coming to help. I understand your mom, from her viewpoint, being scared/concerned, but priorities are YOU first, right now.

One other thing about staples and post surgery. Just as soon as they come out you will feel SO much better. While the incision will still be tender it won’t be the sharp painful that is with them in. That will make moving and especially getting up and down so much easier.

next time call the cops on your mom if she pulls that stunt. Not like you are a minor. What a brat!
My brothers think it might be some form of dementia. They are going to help with everything while I heal and help get Maggie & Demi to their vet.

If you are in severe pain and cannot take morphine, ask about dilaudid. It's another opioid for severe pain. My Sis couldn't take morphine but could take dilaudid.
They said I had 4 vials of Morphine and still in pain, screaming give me Morphine! Give Me Morphine! So they added Dilaudid to the Morphine. My bowels busted into my stomach, which is what happens when you don't eat for 3 weeks, it's pretty painful. :eek2:

Does Medicaid provide medical beds?

I'm so scared what's under those staples though. I didn't follow the doctors orders and hope my guts don't ooze out. :eek3:

I still have my calendar hanging on the wall with all the X's slashed through and when my diet would be over. It's really spooky hanging there. I made it 3 weeks, then no more X's because I was in the Hospital dying.

I knew you could do it!!! Hooray!! I/We are so proud of you!!!:cheerleader:

I would tell you to take a bow, but I know you cannot bend!

It seems this approach is exactly how you need to deal with your mother. It is so hard to do, but you are much much stronger than you think you are. I know it.:bouquet:

But I got my folder, my appointment with Medicaid is on Friday
HOORAY!! :cheerleader: Let NOTHING stop you now, You go Girl!!:goodluck:

she didn't want them to arrest her for the condition of the house.
She knows she is wrong and doing wrong. Please stand up to her.. Yes, mention the Police again, if you have to.. holding you hostage due to your poor health. and being the cause of your poor health..

my brothers are coming to help remodel the bathroom and get out the black mold. They said they know how to do it quite affordably and would have sooner if they knew how bad it was. We are going to rent dumpsters too and clean out the house from the hoarding.
Unfortunately, black mold is only removed by cutting away all of it.. You cannot bleach it out, successfully.
And the dumpsters.. you have to make sure that your mother does not sneak the junk back it.. watch the TV show "Hoarders", for tips on dealing with this filth. It is going to take a long time to remedy this situation.

Also, the black mold, the hoarding, are all having a negative affect on your recuperation. Is there any way you can take your kitties and get out from this toxic (physically and mentally) environment? This would be the best thing for you.

You would become stronger and stronger each day, if you were away from this house, and your mom.. sorry.. only saying it for your own good. :vibes::vibes::vibes::hugs::hugs:

I sincerely hope that your brothers can talk some sense into your mother.

It's black metal cane with a soft foam on the handle and 4 little feet.
This are usually height adjustable.. not stationary. Have you mother return it for a better one.. or call Walmart pharmacy for them to put one aside for her to exchange it.

You should be able to ask for these things as durable medical equipment, the same as the hospital bed. You use them while you need them and they pick them up when you're done using them (not sure about the seat, but the bed, definitely, and probably the cane, too).
Definitely!!! Your case manager should help you.. Do you have any home care? Your doctor should have set you up with some.. and too bad if your mother does not like it..

Tell her she is denying you your right to care. And threaten to call the Police.. yes, tell her.. You are strong and now you know how to deal with her.... I am so proud of you!

It is YOUR RIGHT to get all the help you need. And you need HOME CARE.... call your doctor to arrange it. You probably need a doctor's orders for it.

Ok.. off my soapbox.. :worship::worship:

WE are all here for you..You have such a huge support system.. WE LOVE YOU..:redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump:

If it were me, I would get rid of that calendar.. It is nothing but bad memories..

You are starting FRESH.. with a new life.. a new outlook.. Think of things that way..

Eventually, get a different calendar and post GOOD things!!

I've tried to find an answer re: beds but it gets fairly complicated. I would ask my case worker and see if (s)he can give you an answer/help get that for you.
Please give your brothers a big THANK YOU from me. From the heart.

I think hospital beds are allowed on Medicaid. You need a doctors prescription for it.. or if you have HOMECARE, a nurse will evaluate you and Medicaid will provide all the durable medical equipment you need.

My dad was on Medicare and he did get the things he needed, once he was under homecare: a nurse, a case manger, home health aide, personal care assistant, etc.

I am really surprised, that this was not done when you were discharged, unless you mother forbid it. sigh

I am so happy your brothers are arriving. It makes me feel so much better..
Yes, please thank them from me, also... and my kitty, Geoffrey, whom you would love to meet...

Just to cheer you up:

If the doctor doesn’t think you are healed enough he just will wait on the stitches or replace them with steri stripes, a kind of tape. You probably have internal dissolvable stitches to close things below the skin, like muscles, so nothing is going to ooze or fall out of your incision.

If you have trouble standing up or moving, a walker might be more useful than a cane. Most thrift stores have them for a few dollars.

The Medicaid lady was there as I was dying. She said she would help me anyway she could to change my life. But then my mom took my folder. When I came down off the morphine, I somehow knew the deadline date was today and I demanded my folder from her. I got it. I know hoarding is a disease my mom needs help with, so we are gonna try to help her too. But she cannot deny me medical help or a way to pay my hospital bill. I have no idea how much it cost, but I suspect many, many thousands. She was just gonna stick me with the bill so people couldn't see her boxes of junk hoarding. Who cares about junk more than their kid. Must be some type of illness?

This could work if it's for tall people. I kind of stoop over now. I would like to get back to walking upright.

Yes, my brothers are coming to completely rip out the entire bathroom. All the mold will finally be gone. It's a miracle.

Do you have any home care?
No. But I can get myself out of a medical bed, I had one at the hospital that moved up and down, and forward, so I can work to get stronger and independent. My bed I have now is the one from when I was healthy and I just sit and cry, can't get out of it.

Can you get something like this for your bed?

71AsJsc3ZlL._SL1500_.jpg

If it's possible for you to sleep slightly more upright. Idk, I'm just throwing things out.

I feel like your cane should be able to adjust to be taller. If not, maybe your brothers can get you a better one, or a walker.

And I agree to get rid of that calendar!
